Rules of Nations? Can you get that on Linux? I have an Ubuntu Linux partition on my Windows hard drive, so if it is on Windows, I can still have it. Or WINE it.
You could change the number of issues per day in the settings, although this is not meant to be a game that you don't take a break from for the whole day, but only to check your progress once in a while.
The sin of silence when they should protest makes cowards of men. It's Windows only I think. But now as I've seen it, it's an Obvious Beta so not really worth it. Damn, I'd like to play a working game like this. Anyone know good, complex and relatively unbiased goverment simulation games?
"Take your (...) hippy dream world, I'll take reality and earning my happiness with my own efforts" - BarkeyThe closest thing I could think of is the Tropico series, but I don't think that is exactly what you're looking for.
The sin of silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.The Confederacy of Pacific Free Assemblies:
The Confederacy of Pacific Free Assemblies is a fledgling, socially progressive nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed population of 5 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.
The enormous government juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 36%, but much higher for the wealthy. A very small private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.
Crime is relatively low. Pacific Free Assemblies's national animal is the Wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the tucker.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.Huh, my nation has a lot of crime. Guess I'm going to need to crack down.
(reads issues) Ha, outlaw gambling? Please. Set ethnic quotas for TV? Fuck that.
And now, MY REIGN OF MILD FEAR BEGINS!

NZM why do you keep going on about this game being biased? The author wrote a satire of extremist anarcho-capitalism, but the game is whatever the players make of it. Their nations, their choices, they do it their way. Every political denomination, combination, and cross-section of beliefs is represented somewhere.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username. This is awesome
The enormous, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded government devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 35%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Retail.
Crime — especially youth-related — is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Free Soviet States's national animal is the Bear, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the AFS.
edit: couldn't we make a tvtropes region or something like that?

If any question why we died/ Tell them, because our fathers lied -Rudyard KiplingGreat idea! But we need an experienced player with a lot of time to create and lead it.
The sin of silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.The Commonwealth of Tuthina is a fledgling, safe nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.
The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, socially-minded morass — devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Defense receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 39%, but much higher for the wealthy. A tiny private sector is dominated by the Gambling industry.
Crime is totally unknown. Tuthina's national animal is the grey wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Amśpur.
Basically a Mary Sue Topia, or a modified parliamentary republic. I might switch to my Con World mode and work on it more to avoid it having a Skeleton Government.
I sorta created the mysterious land of Troperia without putting some good thought into it(d'oh).
After reading over some of the forum stickies, it doesn't see to be too difficult to maintain. A good bit of the game seems to be done via roleplay. The most critical things to keep the region secure seem to be to keep the founder account alive, and keep a hold on the membership so that hostile groups don't barge in and assume majority control.
If there's another troper here who wants to run it, I'll gladly pass on the founder account. If not, no problem, I'm online at least once or twice for a few hours everyday anyway, so unless someone drops an EMP near me I should be online to keep things running smoothly and up-to-date.

INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.I'm moving there bro. See you in 10 mins.
Edit: What's the damn password? You closed your e-borders or something?

Ah, sorry about that, removed it. Anyone think a pass is really needed or not?

Boom, I'm your neighbour. Nah. No pass. That's gonna stop free-movement-of-entire-fictional-landmasses. People hate passwords.
Who's your WA delegate?
edited 14th Jun '11 7:16:25 PM by Inhopelessguy
I think I'll move to troperia, myself.
You shall have the support of the guns of The Armed Republic of Isle Von Lewis!
We gots an alarmingly racist TV show as a hit, too! Whoo!

Don't have one yet, just need a confirmed member to get some support from the rest of the motley crew
I moved The Kingdom of The Undercrypt of Malevolent Souls to Troperia.
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianMoved the Grand Duchy of Aeroneia to Troperia!
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does. And so begins Manifest Destiny: Troperia Edition, haha.
The current flag and factbook entry are just placeholders until something better can be acquired. Unfortunately there's a character limit, so if we decide to pen The Epic Of Tvtropes it'll have to be reduced to it's laconic version.
edit- Not entirely sure if all of this still belongs in OTC. Safe here for now, or is a forced migration to more appropriate territory in order?
edited 14th Jun '11 7:44:08 PM by carbon-mantis
Can I be delegate?
Ed.: We also have enough nations to actually register on the scale of populated regions!
edited 14th Jun '11 7:44:28 PM by Inhopelessguy
If I recall, we need at least one more WA member to vouch for you. Takes about 24 hours after the application is submitted for it to be processed, I think. My membership is in limbo for another day until I can pass it along from the regional admin account to my primary one.
edited 14th Jun '11 7:48:52 PM by carbon-mantis
One problem. How the hell do I endorse me? There's no button that says "Endorse this guy"
Another WA member needs to endorse you, I believe. Wouldn't do much good to allow candidates to vote for themselves(no comment on what goes on in the real world here).
