Explaining things sooner could have worked for Fed Force since it wasn't doomed by its concept, just shitty PR.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I have to disagree.
The concept by itself is a less than stellar one for a series known for its protagonist and its (usual) sense of isolation.
No significant amount of people want multiplayer chibi Metroid.
Talk about being out of touch.
I'm guessing there, but it fits with how several of the less acclaimed games have gone. Chief among them being well, Federation Force. Tanabe (the director) seemed to genuinely believe in it during the apology session and made an earnest case of how it's good and why we should like it. All signs indicate he honestly wants others to like it. Treehouse however have avoided mentioning it for awhile, and of course they didn't bother showing it off at E3. I imagine they had more control over what content to show that day, and they would know better than anyone at Nintendo that showing it would be a waste.
Color Splash isn't nearly as hated from what I've seen for better or worse, and it's the only Wii U game left this year, so they have to try and promote it.

I sure said that!I think the hate against Fed Force is the culmination of various things that barely have to do with the content of the game itself.
- People being starved for a new game after Other M.
- No proper celebration of the series' 25th Anniversary outside of Fed Force being released this year (if that even counts).
- Hype Backlash caused by miscommunication during last year's E3. People knew a Metroid was being announced due to a pamphlet or something and got excited, but they didn't know it would be a spin-off so they felt betrayed when the news dropped.
The game's hate train could have totally been avoided if Nintendo handled the announcement differently and/or made it clear a proper Metroid was being developed concurrently (or later). Releasing the info we got from March's Direct right after the first trailer could have also potentially helped with damage control.
To bring this back to Color Splash, the hate for it stems from fans believing that Nintendo has completely missed the point of what people love about the series and have started butchering the games because of it. I don't see it doing well at all, and honestly hope it bombs so Nintendo will either reevaluate their approach or just stop making games as a sort of Mercy Kill.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? You mean 30th anniversary, right? Because Metroid came out in 1986. I know this because I was also born in 1986 so it's easy for me to remember. But yes, while Nintendo did celebrate Zelda's 25th anniversary they did absolutely nothing for Metroid's 25th, and now they are completely ignoring Metroid as it turns 30.
I think Nintendo themselves might be aware of the backlash they got for this game. When it was first revealed in the Direct, it got NOTHING from Nintendo after that. No trailer on their channel (The E3 trailer is the first one) No info on their website, no jump to it on their full Direct video, nothing. It was like they were trying to hide its existence.
It honestly feels like someone behind scenes is holding the devs hostage until the game is made the way they want it.
It's not Ogre, It's Never Ogre.Today is the 35th anniversary of the release of Donkey Kong, the arcade game. In other words, today is Mario's REAL 35th anniversary.
Too bad Nintendo can't really celebrate it despite it arguably growing more recognizable than Super Mario Bros 1 in recent years. Legal issues surrounding the original prevents an ideal celebration.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Just because they don't own the code of that version they can't celebrate it anyway?
Not considering how perfectionist Nintendo is regarding their properties and iconic games from those properties.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Honestly don't be surprised if Color Splash sells less than Sticker Star
Mileena MadnessEven ignoring the backlash, that's almost a guarantee considering the Wii U's much smaller install base.
Can someone explain to me this "Nintendo doesn't own the rights of the original game" myth? It appears to be a widespread belief due to the NES version having omitted one level from the original Arcade version. What happens actually is that the level in question (100 m) had to be cut due to memory constraints, as back then the NES was less powerful storage-wise than arcade machines. Note that the full version appears in Donkey Kong 64, even in the Wii U Virtual Console, whose only legal conundrum was the Jetpac game as it was developed originally by Rare.

The Protomen enhanced my life.It always fascinates me to know what elements could have been in a game before its removal. I remember when I read that Eep Cheeps (those timid yellow Cheeps you see frequently in the NSMB games) were going to appear in Super Mario Bros. 3. Yes, in a 1988 title!
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300It finally happened.
God damn I love Strider7x. It's bizarre seeing the guy who hit a block for 416 years post a parallel universe glitch from the game he plays, even more bizarre to see TJ "Henry" Yoshi in the comments. I'll be waiting for a Pannenkoek 2012 collab now.

That's a pretty good mash-up.
It's over Anakin! I have the high ground!A lot of Siiva Gunner's stuff is pretty decent, when it's not just re-using the Flintstones song all the time.
The channel is, occasionally, clever or funny, but the highly variable quality is to be expected from a group-contribution account.
I sure said that!
I think the Japanese side (so basically the developers and people making the important decision) genuinely thinks people will like this and that we'd be more excited if they just explained it better. Treehouse and the like (who are pretty well in tune with the fandom's complaints) probably are aware and are just trying to massage the situation as best they can.
