3D World had the worst overworld. No ability to just screw around doing whatever, but you still have to walk a bit to get to the levels unlike in 3D Land. I really hope Nintendo ditches that route next time.
Yeah, 3D World has the world overworld since you can't really dick around anywhere. It might as well just be a proper level select screen. I mean, sure, there are secrets in it but it's not like they're hard to find.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I did like both Galaxy overworlds. Both let you get to the levels fairly quickly, but still let you have some room to dick around without a care in the world. The first one could've been a bit smaller, but it was still pretty small honestly, and it had a nice atmosphere.
I think 64's was too big, but considering its origins it doesn't bug me much.
In one way, while I miss the hub worlds full of secrets, those kind of hub worlds were more suited to the exploration-encouraging collectathons rather than the recent Mario Platformers.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!Ah, it's another Waluigi Wednesday.
When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your grief@Folt: Yoshi's Woolly World looks like it'll have a nice little hub world.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I saw a screenshot of it. Gamexplain had a video about 10 new screenshots for YWW. One of them was a hub.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectDoes anyone hope Yooka-Laylee will somehow inspire Nintendo EAD to go back to the explorational style of 3D Mario?
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Well, I gotta see how this hub is then since I rather doubt it's the kind of hub world that you'll find in the N64 3D platformers.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!It might be possible. Maybe Yooka-Laylee will inspire a whole revival of 3D collectathon platformers, the same way New Super Mario Bros. was the beginning of all the nostalgic 2D platformers.
Maybe Nintendo will make so many Super Mario 64-esque games that people will wish to go back to a 3D Land/World-style game.
Call me Willy Whistle 'cause I can't speak, baby. Something in TV Tropes really drove me crazy.Well, I assure you NO ONE prefers the 3D series over 64 and Sunshine or even Galaxy. Definitely not going to happen.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.... *coughs* ... I do, actually.
I like 3D World over Sunshine. It's about on par with 64 for me. Nothings beats Galaxy 2 though.
Also 1 indie game getting hype right now isn't gonna convince Nintendo of anything. If Nintendo was that easy to influence, they would have already made 50 brown grey FPS games when the iron was hot.

there are plenty of people that prefer the 64 explorational style. i think it's valid, and wouldn't necessarily mind other games in the franchise adapting it so long as we still get the polished obstacle courses from galaxy 2.
I'm not saying I wouldn't want a return to that gameplay. I'm just saying a great game is a great game, linear or non linear. And that a kickstarter isn't going to change anyone's mind.
Speak for yourself, dude. I still think Super Mario 3D World is the best 3D Mario title.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.3D World ranks pretty high. Actually third on my 3D Mario list.
Goes to show you people think differently. That's a thing.
Look, if you don't like the linear nature of those games, that's fine. You can express your disdain or irritation at them, but don't say something like that, as if it was a defined law, please? It gets irritating.

"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018Super Mario 3D World (and Land) are some of the coolest Mario games, I agree. And I do prefer them over their exploration-based siblings.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!Random factoid I just ran across. Paper Mario was released for the N64 in 2000. It was re-released on the Wii VC in 2007. It was then put on the Wii U VC in 2015. Which means there was a longer gab between the two VC releases than the release of the original game and the first VC release.
It was released in the North America and Europe in 2001, making that statement even more true.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!@Sterok: Got nothing to say but "huh". That's pretty interesting.
@Zelenal: So, I need that Chain-Chomp thing.
"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018So, tropers, what is the main theme of Wario to you?
- Wario Land 1/2
- Wario Land 3
- Greenhorn Forest from World
- Stonecarving Ruins from Shake It!
- WarioWare Inc. title (also used for Smooth Moves)
These are all the ones that are "repeated" one way or another throughout the sub-franchise. I'm kinda partial to the Land 1/2 theme by virtue of it being the first, but I also really like World's main theme as a song, so it's tough for me.

Nailed it. Despite not really having a lot to do in it, it's the unique atmosphere of the Comet Observatory that makes it enjoyable. Castles and tropical islands are neat, but not everyday you get to explore a magical fantasy spaceship.
Not saying I wouldn't rather have it have more stuff to do in it, but I enjoy it far more that a duller linear world map
