Ha. Launching. -reads article-

Ooh, a new MMO. Looks a bit too good to be browser-based, though.

It looks like that. Seriously. It's a new browser-based engine called the Unity Engine.

Plus, it actually has far more social stuff than Star Trek Online (ie. different meeting places), and will feature a ton of non-combat missions (diplomatic, etc).

There's combat, too - you can build your starship, buy parts, etc, etc.

Go to the media page.

You can see the actual assets in the game (grab, rotate them, etc).

Oh, and a PS - it takes place during the timeline of the DS 9 show.

Oh, Unity Engine. I saw that in some zombie MMO. Yeah, I can see how that'll work.

Unity isn't that new, from what I remember...

Anyway, it's free-to-play and don't even need to worry about HD space, so I'll be checking it out.

Hmm...

Why hasn't this attracted more buzz?

Wow, it actually looks pretty fun, not to mention more graphically detailed than I thought possible for a browser game. Only thing that's stopping me from considering it any further is that I know a game like this will require microtransactions, which I avoid completely.

BTW, does anybody have an idea on how games like these can even turn a profit? Aside from the microtransactions, it looks way too expensive to warrant a free-to-play system.

Through microtransactions. Sometimes through in-game advertising.

I'm going to play just to check it out, see how far I can go before it starts making me want to spend money.

Why did I confuse this for a crossover with Infinite Space?

This looks pretty interesting. The combat looks fairly simple compared to Star Trek Online, but that's mostly because it looks to be on a 2D plane. STO's combat isn't bad.. in fact it's also quite fun, but it requires a little more work with the camera angles than should be necessary.

Just as long as we can choose our ship types, I'll be cool. I love playing as the Defiant-class escort. Taking place during the Deep Space 9 timeline means we'll be looking at the Klingon-Federation and Dominion Wars.

Unity Engine's really powerful - good enough to work on most systems without a hitch... but yeah, those graphics in a browser? Wow. Still. Unity comes with a downloadable option by default, so we'll see...

Being just on a 2D plane didn't hurt Star Trek: Starfleet Command.

I think this is the same game, with a new name.

No, the project died back in 2011 and was never revived.

Plus you necro'ed a thread that was dead for several years. Best to get a Mod to close this one down.
