@Furiko: It's okay. I like the occasional princess-style stuff that comes up where it's not the standard pink-dress-with-huge-hair. I've actually got a bit of fabric in the closet that I think would make a lovely hime lolita dress, but I'm saving it for when I lose some more weight.
http://hellolace.net/ is also pretty good if you just want pictures of the dresses.

"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -Drunkscriblerian@Furiko: Well I was always one of those really girly kids (still am), so I appreciate the fantasy-like femininity associated with lolita fashion (frills and lace, oh my~) and I have a soft spot for sweet lolita (I love gothic/classic just as much though). ^///^ That's not to say that I don't like kodona-type stuff — I love it. :3

@Compa: It's weird, I was never much of a girly-girl but I adore all the frills and lace. o///o;
Oh, and this is the fabric I was thinking of for a princess style dress. This photo shows the colors better◊ but the texture is more accurate in this photo.◊

"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -Drunkscriblerian@Kuriko: You got to the Pacific Mall?
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.@DG: Oh, I think that'd turn out pretty nicely! <3 When I first clicked it I half-expected it to be pink, since the first word I associate with "princess" is pink, eheh x////x;

I'm not much of a pink person, and I think that you don't see enough purple/gold in princess. I think I have enough to do an OP like this with a little modification in the bodice. ^^;
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianThat's lovely (and it's BTTSB too )! You totally should. <3 One day, when my sewing skills aren't completely horrible, I might consider making a JSK... ^^; *jealous of your clothes making skills*
I've yet to make anything Lolita, so it'll be a challenge for sure. I'm probably going to do a ton of mockups first though, because I don't want to waste my pretty fabric. *_*
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -Drunkscriblerian@Erock: I haven't been in years; back in the day it was my go-to source for anime. Why? They get a Bodyline in there now?
@DG: For some reason that cloth makes me think of Renaissance sleeves; you know, the kind where they're folded back to flaunt the lining?
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!@DG: Good idea.
So, moving away from lolita for a moment — Decora: Y/N?
@Furiko: Yeah, I could see that. I'm going to have to line the crap out of it though, since the back has all these loose threads that'll catch on stuff and pull if I'm not careful. I also received it as a gift from Drunkscriblerian's mom, and I have no idea where she got it from, so I can't get more if I screw it up. It's also reeeally expensive, since it's silk. ^^;
@Compa: Decora can look really cool sometimes, if it's done well.

"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianI don't know much about it; I tend to see really ugly extremes of it around, though - too much and it looks like an ubercute rash or something.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!I like some of the dark decora styles, the ones that look like punk taken up to eleven.
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -Drunkscriblerian@DG: Thanks for the link, that's going into my fashion bookmarks. Good luck with the dress, too, that looks like a nice material for it.
-Googles Decora-
Wow, that's certainly a lot of accessorizing, there. And pink. I don't think that would be for me.
@Furkio: No, it's just a stereotypical place for Asians to go here.
If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.@elemcee: Yep, decora's very YMMV, and it really depends on the person's ability to accessorize.
Personally, I don't like overly bright colours for that style — I prefer the dark decora styles DG mentioned, or more subtle colours (with accessories that aren't over-the-top, even though that's what many seem aim for with decora).
Decora's not well-known in the West (it doesn't even have a proper wikipedia page)...
I'm up near Bradford, dude; the P-Mall's sadly way too far to hang out at casually.
What's the deal with otome and mori? What are they, really?

A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!I'm not sure what otome is, but I think that mori is almost hippie leading into hipster, in that non-vegan way. Lots of loose vintage-y clothing and natural accents. Fur is pretty common, as are subdued earth-tone colors.
Edit: This is a mori girl.

"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianUseful info on otome fashion, 'cuz if I tried to explain it I'd fail miserably. x///x For the record, I don't consider it a subset of lolita.
Never really been interested in mori but found this anyway. ^^
Edit: Oops, fixed the link. Sorry 'bout that. >_<

The first link's broken...
Eeeh, I don't think otome and lolita are the same at all. There might be some overlap (super casual classic lolita, maybe), but the two are pretty distinctively different.
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianExactly. Some people seem to think they are, though, hence the confusion surrounding it...
Otome is more focused on simplistic beauty, while lolita tends to be more extravagant. You're right though — some things in otome might work with lolita, but when compared side-by-side, they're strikingly different.

By the look of things, mori seems to be a very easy-going style.
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!Japanese need to see the fashion of Deus Ex Human Revolution. They're crazy enough to adopt it. And while we're at it, I must admit that Adam's coat is pretty awesome.

Oooh, I love this kind of fashion. Some of it is incredibly fussy, and I'd have trouble wearing it, but those outfits with more sparing decoration are often beautiful.
The Mary Magdalene dress that Drunk Girlfriend posted upthread is lovely. And now I'm looking up pretty pictures on tumblr and the lj comm.
