I never bothered to learn the difference, so I mainly just use them interchangeably in informal conversation. :P
Copyright is the right to copy or make more of something.
Trademark is the mark of your trade or a brand. In both senses of the word.
Rough definition of course, but they're not hard to keep separate.
Ah, I just haven't really heard of the PS 4 and Xbone having exclusives because of how easily they are overshadowed by GTA and Co D. Really, other than MGSV and Arkham Knight, I couldn't really think of any PS 4/Xbone game.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!So the name "Super Mario Bros" would go under trademark, and the gameplay would go under copyright, do I have that right?
I thought it was more like Coke is the trademark and the recipe the copyright. I don't think gameplay can be cooyrighted, but I don't know for sure by any means.

The most edgy person on the Internet. From what I can tell, individual games are copyrighted, while the series, characters, concepts, and iconography are trademarked.
Trademark is mainly for titles, logos, and phrases. It meant to distinguish your business or product from others. Sometimes characters are trademarked, especially if used in a lot of merchandise.
Copyright is your ownership of the work as a whole. It's literally your right to make more copies of the work, share the work publicly, or make derivative works like sequels.
Patents are for inventions and designs. In terms of games, hardware is patented. Software can also be patents, so aspects of gameplay can be as well.

When I see people claim they'll never play Nintendo games after stuff like this, it makes me wonder if they ever play anything. I mean, if you won't tolerate Nintendo for taking down YouTube videos, will you tolerate other companies shoehorning micro-transactions into their games? Will you tolerate companies with terrible security over customers' information? Will you tolerate companies treating their own employees terribly? Will you tolerate companies with overpriced DLC? Either they never play any games at all, or they're hypocrites because every company has done something unethical.

Personally, I'd prefer if the 'net was a little friendlier, but you know the GIFT...I call it the Nintendo effect; anything Nintendo does that people don't like, Nintendo is greedy/is doomed/behind the times, etc. Anyone else? "Eh, they're working it out"
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Aka the Pachter approach. Which is why he needs to be stopped.
I haven't heard anything from the guy in ages. Don't care about him either way.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.I say we paint ourselves in Yoshi stripes and burn all of their houses down.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! They are stripes that, upon closer examination, are actually a string of Yoshi pictures.
It's either that or you found me a crowbar, three plumbers, and a box full of coconuts.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I don't know what that is but it sounds disappointing.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I don't think he mentioned Yamcha.
I wonder why everyone here seems to have no problem with most of what Nintendo does, yet most of the rest of the internet has huge issues, especially in regards to the recent speedrun takedowns.
I mean, I get that it is in their right to do so. But that doesn't make it okay, at least according to the rest of the internet
EDIT: Made my post hopefully less problematic. I hope.

I say it's likely due to a time gap between those who have made their niche in video media market and Nintendo themselves entering in this social media format. ROM hacks and Speed Assist Tools seems to be in light of Super Mario Maker coming out, but one has to know the history of ROM hack videos and speed tool assists on Youtube to get a good idea of what's really going on and why. I myself do not know unfortunately, so don't ask me.

Them taking down ROM hacks is understandable because of Super Mario Maker. They want all focus on that rather than on people (probably illegally) hacking a ROM to make levels.
The Tool Assisted Speedruns are another matter entirely but they're also hosted on the main website for them so they're not actually lost.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! That article posted in the thread earlier only said they took down videos on Niconico Douga. Did they take down Youtube videos on mass as well? I could only find one article clearly talking about Youtube videos being taken down, for one particular user.
4x@LDragon2 I'm not saying what Nintendo is doing is okay, I'm saying some people are treating it like it's worse than some of the stuff the rest of the video game industry does. If you won't support Nintendo for doing this crummy thing, are you gonna support companies that do these crummy things? See my post at 20034 for details.

This is commonly confused, but that doesn't apply to copyright. It's trademarks that need to be constantly enforced or else you'll lose it. Copyright is very hard to lose, being selective in your enforcement against copyright infringement doesn't affect your hold over the copyright, like it does with trademarks.
