Oh, right forgot to adress that.

It would be quite easy to simple force the first-person camera mode when it's required to aim. I can't remember an instance in Sunshine where standing still in third-person mode is required, or even particularly useful. Or simply have one button on either pair of shoulder buttons "lock" Mario into place, achieving the same effect.

16995: I meant as an optional control scheme. Like make another game compatible with the Game Cube controller.

Does the Game Cube controller adapter work with Wii Mode?

There are plenty of times where it's useful. Also, they can just use the ZL or ZR button for the same effect.

There's actually something in Sunshine that a lot of people don't know about. If I recall correctly, if you fully press down the R button then immediately release it, Mario does this kind of super shotgun spray that can fill up Petty Piranha's belly in one blast.

I mostly used it to clear up a lot of goop in one move, or just for messing about.

Being able to stand still and aim or run while shooting is important. The former is important for precision aiming such as in the hotel casino, while the latter is highly important for things like chasing Shadow Mario or cleaving a path through large fields of goop.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

One thing I love about Sunshine is all the different moves you could do with Mario's jumping, sliding, and nozzles. Not all of them were useful, but it was pretty fun seeing how all of them worked.

Why does Nintendo region-lock their systems? That's kinda what caused Operation:Rainfall.

I'd imagine so they have as much control of how their releases get rolled out as possible.

I'm still questioning the logic behind region-locking...because we could easily get another "Operation: Rainfall" scenario.

[up]If it's anything like anime home video releases, then it's to keep the citizens from importing cheaper versions from other countries.

When asked, IIRC, the official reason was that they were too lazy to program parental controls to take all regions' rating boards into account instead of just the local ones.

As if a kid's gonna be importing a game without their parents' knowledge.

It's not uncommon for kids to make purchases online so importing isn't that much of a stretch.

Last 2 posts are, in order:

  • Making a purchase with the parent's knowledge (not something Nintendo has any business stopping with their stated reasoning, which is why I specifically excluded that in my post)
  • Not what most would consider an import, but an example of insufficiently careful parents, not the sort that would use parental controls to start with (if they were, they would also be the sort to use the various optional settings in place to prevent such mistakesnote ).

Unless a parent hands the kid their credit card info or otherwise just leaves it hanging around unattended, there's no way for a kid to make an online purchase without going through the parents. As such, it stands to reason that parents would be aware of all import purchases made by children outside of edge cases.

[up]On sites like Amazon you can already have the credit card info stored there. And you'd better hope your kid doesn't know your Pay Pal account password.

I would be both impressed with the kid and disappointed with the parents if the kid managed to make such a purchase that way and then the parents proceed to not notice money being missing on their credit card statements nor question the package they didn't buy.

Using my own family members as reference here, a kid who tries to pull that would be caught by automated texts from the account stating X money was just spent from Y account. A cursory glance would reveal that the kid purchased the game and then the kid no longer has access to technology at home for the foreseeable future as punishment, with the purchase being cancelled or returned.

...Perhaps the reason why I think any kid who tries would be caught immediately is because my parents weren't stupid in regards to that.

If the parents are smart then the kids would be caught immediately assuming they could even make the purchase in the first place.

The problem is that a large portion of the populace isn't even remotely smart. Or tech savvy. Or both.

That fact that there are parents who complain about the content in the games their kids play, when the kid cannot legally own or play that game without the parents' permission (and probably money) in the first place should explain exactly what kind of people we're talking about.

In serious mode:

You'd think that, with stuff like GTA and Batman: Arkham out there, parents would realize that video games, like any animated media, aren't exclusively for kids.
