Raven made Heretic, Soldier Of Fortune and Quake IV. Splash Damage made Brink.

[up]Brink actually seems to be an example of an FPS that came and went.

Keeping in mind that this is VGChartz, it includes many older games, multiplatform sales are only listed on a per-platform basis, that PC sales are mostly missing, and that many of these are external developers operating under the same publisher: From 1M US sales and up I see EA, Activision, Lucasarts, Sony, Ubisoft, 2K, id, Vivendi-Universal, and Microsoft listed for recent top-selling FPSs.

EA and Activision seem to be the main sources (although they put games from Valve into EA and other places, I didn't even know EA had a hand in Left 4 Dead).

Forgot about Ubisoft's Tom Clancy games, I usually think of there 3D platformers like Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed.

Most of these companies also do other genres of games as well, so it's not like anyone's being deprived of different games.

And again, with the personal exception of COD I found most of these games to be really good. I wish the list was organized by developer or something so it would be a little easier to skim through.

I get not liking FPS, but I don't see how their dominance is making it difficult to play games from other genres (unless you're on Xbox 360 I think, but I'm not sure about that). That being said, I wouldn't mind if their dominance waned as I doubt it would stop companies like 2K and Valve from continuing to make them (since those are the companies I usually buy them from anyway).
