Eek. What kind of morons (or asshats) does that district employ?
It's worth noting that I haven't ever seen or heard of any such case either in Switzerland or Germany.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanA British Example: Shropshire primary school refuses nine-year-old pupil permission to attend mother’s wedding.
Keep Rolling OnYoung children, in the common law, are generally deemed capable of consenting to any transaction they understand. That's why they can buy sweeties without invalidating the contract of sale.
Of course, any jurist who interprets that as allowing a five year old child to sign something isn't worthy of the name.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiAh, but that very thing occurred... during the bad old days of such thing as indenture and child labour in both Britain and the Colonies. If in doubt, X'd work, and lo! Suddenly, it's legal... because lookit the long words! Got a signature! Kid knew what s/he was getting into! <_<
Well done, Arizona! Keeping up old traditions nicely!

And rereading the article it seems the bully wasn't punished at all for making him do it? What the fuck is that about?! Makes me want to beat someone with a trout.
I love that there's a "clueless school officials" tag on that story. Is that a trope yet? It seems it should be a trope by now.
"I'd like to be a tree." - FluttershyIt would, if the US didn't purposefully ignore that fact (and instead insist that legally adult people do not understand sex).
No, because the law does not deem underage children capable of consenting to sex.
Schild und Schwert der ParteiBut some states do have an age of consent of 16, no? And their still minors.
As long as they have the consent of the parents. Agency!
Because that would make sense, and this is American law we're talking about. There's a certain scene in Transformers: Age of Exboredom where the whole matter of consent is made abundantly weird.

"I'd like to be a tree." - FluttershyIf my understanding is correct, the age of consent is the point where for the purposes of laws governing sex, one is no longer considered a minor.
We're talking about common law, the understood, basically unwritten jurisprudence that exists outside of written law. Common law basically is the anti-loophole toolkit, since just because there isn't a law written in black and white on the books somewhere, doesn't mean that the matter in question is utterly without regulation.
Fathers as pimps are not unheard of. Also, in Switzerland prostitution of 16-year-olds actually is legal.
I'm not really familiar with common law and it's "precedence setting". Seems rather arbitrary and open to abuse by judges.
Also, this is getting off topic...
Except for adults prostitution is illegal in all but a few places here within the United States of America.
Though yes, that is an off-topic point of discussion that this will be my last point on.

Almost Sounds like my old principal. Bet they know each other.
I'm baaaaaaackI'm necroing this thread because someone, unaware of its existence, tried to open a new one.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Guilty as charged. I plead insanity and ingenuity for trying to combine this topic, zero tolerance on DU Is, and the zero tolerance on late court fees...then I remembered that my PSP has an charcter limit when it comes to posting.
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to breakI am gonna violate my no swearing rule for this.....but this topic is really really personal to me as my family and I have been failed repeatedly by these schools and there districts for years. No tolerance is fucking stupid and it hasn't worked ever since they first proposed this stupid as attempt of controlling the childrens.
My second brother was lucky enough to inherit some rare gene from my dad which basically gives him migraines (and on top of this he has anxiety from my a mom which is not a good combination). He has had to take migraine pills in many times because the sheer amount of pain he has had to deal with was too much. This is the despite the fact he should of been at home resting but since the schools in my area have this stupid fucking Only 10 days of excused absences are allowed rule he doesn't have that luxury (mind you my brother is a straight A student despite however many days he misses every year). He has gotten in trouble many times for not having the migraine pills approved. The school officials have even confiscated it even though it's quite clear he was in horrible pain. I had similar occurrences when I was younger as the schools wouldn't allow any of the kids to go home sick unless there were flat-out vomiting or having a fever (the kids shouldn't get to that point in school). I couldn't take medicines either as again it had to be approved. Both of my parents have gotten into multiple arguments with the schools and the districts. The school staff for the most part knows that these NT and other tacked on bad rules are bullshit and only serve to hinder innocent kids rather then catch the true troublemakers.
Even then we were brushed off every time by some fucking dumbasses in the districts or there higher ups. The upper Middle Class paranoid/helicopter/spoiling there kids parents kept voting these stupid rules back in anyway (I knew for a fact that they were the ones doing it as my parents along with some others had an actual talk with some of these stupid Moral Guardians at one point).
All these rules served was to tell me that the vast majority of authority figures at the top are incompetent as fuck and not worth trusting. Nice job making a self-for filling prophecy out of your new generation you incompetent dumbasses.
....Sorry for the heatedness but as I said this topic is very personal to me. I was a very heavy bully target back in school (I even had a teacher that encouraged the bullying at one point) and I have actually got sexually harassed a few times. I complained to the officials and nothing was done because I had no proof as they said. Those occurrences along with my failing self-esteem, my shyness, and the economy hitting my family hard (to the point my family is still trying to recover to this day) have led to mess of a person with clinical depression. I have next to no faith in my country or the authority figures....

Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky GothSeems like your parents have a better approach than others do. If I were your parents I'd probably consider legal action against the school after some point.
But yeah, the general impression is that school officials are useless when it comes to bullying.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMy parents never got along with the district. At one point my dad got called in for some sort of meeting for the city for the crime of giving his children too many sick days. This is the despite the fact that I was very sickly when I was younger and the fact my brother got horrible migraines since he was like 6. The police department and fire department was on my dad's (and thus me and my brother's) side but the snooty school officials (a bunch of middle-aged women) were insisting that we can just Walk it off since we were young boys. My dad asked said officials if they ever had migraines or had to deal with constant illnesses as kids. That got them to clam up.
....My hatred for school started from there and just kept on growing....

Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky GothThen again, what do you think of this?
Keep Rolling OnWhat do I think about it well....the staff and officials behind that can go fuck themselves to put it bluntly. I actually recall something similar happening to me when I went to a funeral for one of my second cousins.
My condolences to that girl. Hopefully her parents will fight it and win the battle.
Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky GothI daresay it wouldn't have happened if it wasn't imposed from central Government — then again here, we do fine people who take their children out of school (especially for Holidays).
Keep Rolling On
......what. Seriously, what is this I don't even
Arghl, the stupidity has reduced me to gibberish. Thanx Arizona!
