Valiant comics is set to relaunch it's line in 2012. I for one am excited especially for Ninjak, Solar and X-O Mon O War.

Any one else interested?

I've never read Valint before (didn't even know they existed back in the day) but I'm interested. Considering all the wackiness Marvel and DC gave been going through, a company that's famous for their attention to continuity would be refreshing.

I used to read my older cousin's comics when I was a kid. My favorite was Eternal Warrior for all the historical settings. I also loved how at the end of every comic was a "comic book store of the month" bit. I'm very much looking forward to it. Valiant was a breath of fresh air for me; a less angsty Marvel, brought to us by Jim Shooter.

I had heard that Jim Shooter was ushering in a relaunch of the old Gold Key characters—Dr.Solar-Man of the Atom, Magnus Robot Fighter, and Turok, over at Dark Horse...

[up]That's misguided for 2 reasons.

1. Acclaim Turok was pretty awesome and kinda mind-bending (and the games were awesome too).

2. Classic Media owns the rights and apparently want too much for the rights to Turok and others.

[up]In response...

  • Acclaim bought Valiant in 94...
  • ...and then ran the Turok license in the ground. Turok Evolution was so bad that its villain, Civil War cavalry captain Tobias Bruckner was used by Electronic Monthly Magazine to honor the worse games of the year.

I blame Acclaim for running the license in the ground original and why Valiant doesn't have it now.

...and then ran the Turok license in the ground.

By making a great comic, a good game, a better game, another good game, a 'meh' game and another good game?

I blame Acclaim for running the license in the ground original and why Valiant doesn't have it now.

Yeah, because Classic Media definitely wouldn't have gotten the rights for all the Gold Key comics anyway. Obviously Valiant would still be doing these comics and their business would be great if it weren't for those evil bastards at Acclaim.

I've never read Valiant comics before, so I might use this event to be more familiar with them.

I know this is well-known, but I still can't believe a company killed itself by having a crossover.

[up]Well they did collaborate with Rob Liefeld. That's self-inflicted if I ever saw it.

There is a page for that crossover, Death Mate.

Just read through the first dozen or so issues of Archer & Armstrong. It's good. They kept the mix of the odd buddy friendship and all of the historical in-jokes.

Just switched to my image avatar too. Maybe I should find a Valiant one? Was Valiant the company Image put out of business because it could not stay on schedule during their crossover?

For some odd reason the topic refuses to acknowledge that I've already read the latest comment. Might as well make a post, if only to slap some sense to it.tongue

Anyway, I've been loving the new Valiant oh so much. I'm a little upset that Shadowman's the worst of the bunch so far, but even then it still a good deal better than some of the competition, and the new writer's got me all sorts of excited. Also I think Joshua Dysart is now one of my favorite writers ever.

Unity's summary confuses me, I did not know XO Man Of War was a villain.

Okay, so my original post didn't help. Weird. Hopefully someone up top knows what's going on, because I sure as hell don't.

[up] The thing about Unity is that it really doesn't have a straight-up villain. Aric actually has a very noble goal: he just rescued the survivors of his people from an alien planet, and now he wants to return them home. The problem is that most of the world doesn't take too kindly to an alien ship suddenly landing and taking over an existing country, and Aric is still convinced he can solve everything by punching really hard.

Keep in mind as well that the "hero" of this story is Toyo Harada, the universe's resident Magnificent Bastard. As legitimate as his reasoning is (he doesn't want more nuclear fallout), one can't help but think that his real reasoning is that Aric is an unimaginable and potential threat to his power.

And Valiant is part of the latest Humble Books Bundle. I went for the fixed $15 one. I like Valiant's work, so it was worth it to me. Now if only they included all of the old line books as well...
