First off, if I'm sorry if I'm doing this wrong. First forum post. And if this has been covered in another thread... I have no way of finding out.

'Cause the search has been broken for over a month for me. I've confirmed with my friends that I'm alone in having this issue. When I try to find anything in the google-powered search, nothing comes up. At all. I get this:

((ETA: Okay, I can't post a link to the screenshot. Crap. It's a page without any results or even a "no instance of [search term] found". Nada.))

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

Thank you in advance.

Is the page completely blank?

No. It has the header, the line of blue buttons (new edits, etc), "Search results", a horizontal line, then the Creative Commons symbol and the footer.

That sounds like you have scripting turned off.

I hope it's all right to bump this thread instead of starting a brand new one, since I seem to have the same problem. I enter my search terms, click Search, and there are no results. The page is NOT blank: it has a proper header, it says "Search Results", then a grey line followed by the Some Rights Reserved logo which is at the bottom of the page.

Additional observations:

- This hasn't always been the case. It worked fine last month or so, and I did not knowingly change any browser settings in the meantime (other than updating Firefox, IIRC).

- Under Tools/Options/Content tab, I have Enable Java Script ticked.

- All this goes for Firefox 3.6.23. The tvtropes search function works fine under Internet Explorer, but I don't want to use that.

Help would be aprpeciated.

An adblocker will cause this.

[up] Actually, It didn't. I removed TV Tropes.org from Ad Block's whitelist and tried a search and it gave me results.

I meant the person saying they were having an issue, but, that could be the problem.

Same problem here, in Opera 9.27, and I definitively don't use an adblocker. The search results display very briefly (less than a second), then are replaced by a yellow box reading "Loading..." (which they don't).

Also, search definitively still worked 2 days ago.

The search results are working for me on my actual computer (Firefox... whatever the latest version is), but they don't load at all on my D Si browser. Then again the D Si browser is kinda crap, so that might be a problem on my end rather than TVT's.

Same here. I try a search and all I get is the Search Results page with nothing on it but "Loading". Not even an ellipses after it, just "Loading."

I'm having the same issue. Firefox, Ad Block is not the issue, I don't use No Script, etc. The only thing I came close to finding out on the forums was a thread asking about this issue and the only response it got was a link to a non-existent thread.

Has there been official recognition of this problem?

The search still isn't working for me. I'd just like to know where the problem is.

I have the same problem with the search! Not working in Firefo 6, but it works in Chrome. Both have Adblock, so I don't think it's that.

^ Several people have reported not using Ad Block and having the same issue, as well as having no improvement in the search when their adblocker was turned off, so that's not the issue.

As a temp workaround you can do your search through the main google.com and as long as you add "tropes" to your search request it'll chuck up the relevant results. Won't work on the forum search though.

[up]Adding site:tvtropes.org works better. Also works for the forum.

Anyway, search seems to be working for me.

If you are talking about the Google search, check if you have a script blocker enabled.

If you have HTTPS everywhere up check to see what is disabled through there. I found that was the source of the blockage despite setting filters to allow TV tropes.
