Discussion of religion in the context of LGBTQ+ rights is only allowed in the LGBTQ+ Rights and Religion Thread.
Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

Well, education isn't just about school. *shrug* Considering that a lot of this approval, or neutrality, towards gay marriage comes from the younger generations. This comes with LGBT people being far more open, which means young people are more exposed to them in one way or another. Thus, the 'fear' or whatever of those lifestyles is less. Or something. I expect there to be more legalization of gay marriage within my lifetime.
Tell me about it. Show students an unlabeled Bill of Rights, and they reject most of the tenets.
I'm a skeptical squirrelThat's the youth for you.
Y'know, i think the best thing you could do for LGBTQ rights is remove the tax exemption on churches. That would dry up a lot of lobbying money.

If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.Personally, I think that neither heterosexuals nor homosexuals should be allowed to marry.
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksI believe only pets should be allowed to have civil unions.
I'm a skeptical squirrelWhat's your stance on pet adultery?
Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.You can't marry a pet, that's abuse of authority.
Thanks for sharing. Can we use politer language please?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"OK... I apologize for the language, but that is all!
Now, if I can properly add my two cents to this... Thank you.
What I'm basically saying to the OP is this: Yeah - that's common sense nowadays. And all this political/Christian (which is giving my religion a bad name, period) grandstanding against this...It got old a long time ago, if 53% and growing is proof of this.

This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioI never got why. The Levi, or Leviticus, is a bunch of rules for a specific religious group, meant to be optional and not the norm. It also states that they will be put to death, with no mention as to why or what happens to their soul afterwards.
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryExactly. It is wrong.
But we need to, as a nation, stop treating our gays like they belong in Hades for wanting to do what they want, when they want. Especially marriage.
I only came to say "I support gay marriage, too", not to get into a religious argument with anyone.
EDIT - Man! Where is that sword at for these ninjas?!

This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioWell we can't have it all.
"Traditionally" meaning, as usual "since the Victorian era". Christianity didn't even acknowledge marriage for its first thousand years. And polygamy has SERIOUS mileage, if we talk tradition. it's even in the bible.
Gay marriage is a thing, becuase marriage no longer is about ownership, or necessarily even family, but about love. If two, or more people love eachother to the extent that they plan to live their life together, why not allow the formalize it?
And before you say "civil union", words have power. Civil union is second class citizenship written all over it. Ask any commited, "civil union" couple are they married, they will say yes.
Lets say that civil unions and marriage both have the same rights, responsibilities, and privileges; would the name matter?
Yes, yes it would. As much as it would to have separate polling stations and a different name for women or for people of color. The vote still counts, but it's called something else. That's not equality.
Also, I'd like to point out that while same sex marriage is a worthy goal, what I think is more pressing would be federal, or stateswide anti-discrimination laws, that specify both sexual orientation AND gender identity (many states have neither protected, some only sexual orientation).
And it's not just the principle of the thing, calling something by different names makes it very easy to make laws that treat it differently. If existing laws and treaties on the matter only mention marriage (which many do) it's hard to argue that they should apply to things not recognized as marriage.
and Exactly!
I have seen more homosexual couples treat each other as better spouses then the heterosexual majority with the appalling divorce rate. Newt Gingrich and those who hold marriage and family values like him have done more damage to the "Holy Institution of Marriage" then homosexual couples ever could.
That's what I can't stand. If your jesus loves marriage so much, that homosexuals can't be a part of it, then mandatory marriage counselling before marriage and before divorce for one year required by law. Your marriage licence should be renewed by a well-marriage check up just like car inspections every three years. You have to pass tests and take child care classes before getting your permit to have children. Yep. Whole nine yards. Think of the people who would actually get married after that? Those would be the ones who really love each other.
"But Polar! That's asinine and too much government intervention!"
So is denying basic civil rights to a segment of the population just because someone's religion tells them it's wrong.
"Oh wait. She doesn't have a... Forget what I said, don't catch the preggo. Just wear her hat." - Question Marc
Yeah, ending anti-gay culture is probably fairly difficult. I always say that equality issues like that are best deal through public education but then these days public education in America is under attack as well.
