Discussion of religion in the context of LGBTQ+ rights is only allowed in the LGBTQ+ Rights and Religion Thread.
Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

We're looking at the trees. Let's return to the forest.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAnother pastor? They do realise that free speech does not technically protect against this sort of thing?
It does over here. He can say whatever he wants, except for maybe "on this date and time, go to this club and shoot these people, I want you to do this"
If he's not inciting violence, he's not breaking any constitutional rights.
Whether we like it or not.
This is reminding me of a statement I saw somewhere in the US Politics thread I've come to like: That claiming your argument it protected by free speech is essentially the ultimate concession. It basically says the only point in your favor is that what you're saying isn't actually illegal.
I would also add that free speech does not also mean consequence free speech. If anything happens to any of these pastors over their words, I'll have zero sympathy.

Free speech does not protect against crimes. Hate speech included. As hate speech counts as an attempt to incite others to criminal acts.
Not in the US it doesn't.
Oh really when?I don't belive hate speech is a crime in the US.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranWestboro Baptist Church still being around is proof of that.
Non Indicative UsernameEnciting violence can be a crime. Mere hate speech is usually considered too mild as enciting violence.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThere are a lot of people in jail in the US where I wonder how they managed to get in there, like 90% of the drug users. And there are a lot of people in the US where I wonder how they manage stay out of jail. Like 90% of the super rich.
But, If the relevant prosecutor was doing their job properly, and the judge and jury was doing their jobs properly, I would expect one of these individuals to spend time in jail.
The prosecutors are doing their job properly. Simply put, hate speech is not a crime in the United States.
You can't jail someone for something that isn't illegal. Now it should be illegal but it's not.
Oh really when?even if we illegalize hate speech, it is impossible to enforce.
Non Indicative UsernameX3 Nope, you have to break a law to go to jail, in the US saying that X group should die or that people should kill X group isn't illegal, I belive you have to give specifics for it to be insightment to commit violence.
So, "the hedonist gays need to die", is legal, "someone should go shoot up the sodomites", legal, "take up your guns my brothers, march down to third street, find the club of the gays, and send them to satan's embrace as they deserve" would cross the line, but I think it takes that, even "someone should go on down to third street and kill all them God hating fags" might be legal.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranAren't people detained or put on watch lists for expressing support for terrorism?
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Depends on the group they're supporting.
Oh really when?Watch lists sure, detained, I don't belive so.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI'm making a distinction between hate speech as defined in the dictionary and hate speech the legal term. See if you can spot the difference.
"Group a is the scum of the earth. I think they should leave."
"Group a should be rounded up and shot dead. Any one who does so is a hero."
And both things are perfectly legal to say in the US.
Oh really when?Hate speech doesn't exist as a legal term in the US, thus you're making a distinction without a (legal) difference.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI remember reading an article back during Obama's first term that mentioned a priest openly praying for the president's death with his congregation.
To say the least, I was baffled. :/
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.I remember my brother saying more than once that Obama wouldn't survive to the end of his term.
That wasn't racial hate, far as I know. Here's just really conservative and thinks Obama circumvents the Constitution to get what he wants. (Whether that's true is more than I'm prepared to debate)

Not in the UK you can't, I looked into adopting someone as a sibling and it's not legally possible, because legally a sibling has no additional rights anyway and you can't adopt an adult anyway, which would have been the only way to do it.
