Discussion of religion in the context of LGBTQ+ rights is only allowed in the LGBTQ+ Rights and Religion Thread.
Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

Different people control these things, if Congress voted to approve of LGBT month then yeah the entire thing would be a farce, because Congress are being assholes to LGBT people.
You keep acting as if "the goverment" was a single hive mind, it's not, "the goverment" in the form of the executive doesn't pass laws, it literally can't legislate equality because it can't legislate, all it can do is what it has done (repeal don't ask don't tell, extend protection to goverment workers, go to battle with states over the bathroom stupidity, and yeah declare a month).
This is like saying that you resent "the hospital" fixing your burn because they didn't fix your leg, even though the only reason for that discrepancy is because the burn doctor wasn't an asshole while the leg one was.
two different groups of people did two different things, why are you lumping them together and acting as if they're one group?
As for the former ACLU director.
So she's a bigot. She's certainly transaphobic and probably also sexist by what she's said. If anyone's a danger to children it's her.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranShe's falling into the same faulty logic as all the others too. "I don't want masculine-looking women in my bathroom - so I'm going to force actual men with beards and everything to use it instead."
It's like, not only is their goal stupid as hell, the means they intend to achieve it by are somehow even dumber.
I suspect she doesn't believe that transmen exist. As in she thinks that all trans people are men pretending to be women.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ Cyran@Ex-ACLU bigot: Again, people like her will just say trans people aren't really who they are. The big question is "Who has the right to decide who a person is?" Aren't conservatives supposed to be all about individual freedom? So why are they trying to decide our identities for us?
@LGBT Pride Month: I'm not even so much against it as I am cynical about the circumstances under which it came about, and that some people will use this an excuse to say the fight for equality is over when it definitely is not. I am not allowed that much?
Let's go with your hospital analogy. I end up with severe burns and a damaged leg because of (insert reason here). Hospital does a great job of treating my burn injuries. The scars are barely noticeable. But for some reason only my insurance provider understands, they won't cover surgery on my leg. So now I can't walk properly, and I'm dealing with the problems and societal hang-ups that come with being disabled. All because of the decisions of people I'll never meet. I try to keep an upbeat attitude about the situation, but sometimes I complain about the "damn healthcare system" that screwed me over. And someone has to get on my case and tell me how ungrateful I'm being for complaining about the corrupt system instead of singing the praises of the few people who actually helped me. How am I supposed to respond to that?
They only want freedom for the 'right' kind of people.
I have no intention of telling you what you're 'allowed' to do, that's way above my pay grade.
But why are you cynical about the circumstances under which it came about? I'm all for hearing your argument for why the Obama administration might have made the desiccation for a shitty reason, but you haven't explained it at all.
Sure some people will use it as an excuse to say the fight is over, but they have clearly never actually cared about equality and can be safely ignored.
You didn't complain that the system is screwing you over, you came into a debate/discussion place and asserted that "LGBT Pride Month is the government's way of trying to make us forget they still treat us as second class citizens in many ways.". If you'd wanted to complain that things are still shit nobody would have questioned it, because things are still shit.
To further drag out this already torturered analogy, you went "they only treated my burns to cover up the fact that they wouldn't fix me leg" and that's rather confusing.

"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranHow much further do I need to explain my reasoning before I stop being "wrong" about it? At this point I'd rather just drop the subject altogether.
Also, hypothetical you is now putting words in hypothetical me's mouth. She doesn't appreciate it and would rather hypothetical you left her alone and let her eat her lunch in peace.
I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying I don't understand your logic or reasoning and would like to.
But if you wanna stop that's fine, I'm not in any way attached to this topic of discussion.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI honestly don't know if I'm capable of making myself understood at this point.
I do remember a few years ago when LGBT pride month became a thing. Some people cheered. Others raged. But some people (like me) just kind of shrugged. It was a nice gesture, and maybe Obama was sincere. He certainly seems sincere now. But it didn't change the defeats we suffered in California and elsewhere. It didn't stop discrimination. And I'd be surprised if no politician anywhere tried to use it as an excuse to push back against equality. It was just a nice gesture that didn't really change much from my perspective. Might have made somebody's life easier, but for me it was just another thing for the haters to laugh/rage about.

Looks like the VA is proposing covering SRS under its healthcare plans.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Also a general overview:
The Fourth Circuit Court rejected rehearing of case that granted Bathroom Rights to a Trans Student
The School Board via Writ of Certiorari requested the Supreme Court take up the case
The Federal Transgender Bathroom protections have been stayed pending SCOTUS review
I basically expect Kennedy or Roberts to side with the Liberal Justices and tell the states to stop fucking wasting their time with increasing minutia anti-LGBT laws at this point. The two of them want to go down as pro-LGBT justices to cover for their pro-business rulings, so I expect this to be a mostly open-shut case.

Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. - Douglas AdamsAnd doesn't the old ruling hold (with no precedent) if the case goes 4-4?
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Yup. So if the 4th ruling was in favor, then it stands, but only in the 4th's jurisdiction.
So pretty much either way they're hosed for the 4th District. The question is if the rest of the country gets affected or not.
Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake in coming down from the trees in the first place. - Douglas AdamsIf I recall, lawyers can cite cases from other districts, although they are not as legally definitive as cases from courts directly above/below their current venue's chain of courts.

Someone detonated a small bomb in a Target restroom.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotOregon court rules that gender can be classified as nonbinary.
Mark that one in the win column.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)That is huge.
Now what we need is for it to become an option on birth certificates for intersex people.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickNice development, though certainly a challenging one from a bureaucratic perspective.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Just saw this on the A single unified LGBT conversation board and felt it bore sharing:
The Lieutenant Governor of Utah has apologised for his anti-LGBT past, after the Orlando massacre.
I've recently learned that MSM have restrictions on blood donation. As far as I can tell, it has to do with the AIDS panic of the 1980s.
This is a signature.I think that's dumb.
Non Indicative UsernameLong as they increase screening capabilities there's no reason to maintain the absolute block. Especially since straight people get AIDS too.
Well, some commenters tried to explain her feminazi unlogic for us ignorant haters. Of course the explanation amounts to "if you disagree with her, you're a racist misogynist liberal drone", so take that as you will.
I'm guessing Miss "I've got mine so fuck you" doesn't think transgender women exist. (Image not exactly related, but I found it amusing.)
