98UM's AI is kinda for fans first and foremost. Orochi's actually a threat now it has decent AI.

I'm getting owned by it though lol. Even Lucky was whooping me.

EX is selected how exactly?

Just move your cursor over your character and hold down... it's either Start or Select; I can't really remember which, but it's one of them. Once you're holding down the right button, you should see a different portrait for your character, which indicates that you're choosing the EX version. This is also how you select the Orochi New Face Team, as well as Orochi Iori&Leona and Omega Rugal if you're feeling like a particularly cheap bastard.

Does the Extra version Kyo infinite still work in '98 UM?

I replayed 2002 UM recently and man are the inputs strict. This is what I get for playing SF 5... :D

Also, I can't ever perform hcbhcb on a keyboard ever when I played this before... but I just used the stick I bought for SF 5 and it was OK...

Huh so that's how. Actually upon further reading choi and Lucky have notoriously obnoxious AI in 98UM while Iori is just flat out stupidly good AI or not. Come to think of it he was the only one I could beat Omega Rugal(whose has his best theme in this game BTW, that opening beat is just too hype) with.

I love the levels for 98UM, that boss stage is sick. Gotta love Krauser's theme playing in it too. Krauser is hilarious with his BLITZBALL and admittedly cheesy looking whirlwind special. His YOU ARE A LOSER taunt is among the best in the game. I'd love if he were DLC for kOF14.

I wish I knew who BJ Love was, because there's no way in hell that's anything but a pseudonym.

And here you go dudes, new and improved RQ 87 playthrough of 2K2UM to round it all off. Oh and a playthrough of vanilla 2002's PS 2 version. That one's worth viewing jus to see Geese and Goenitz in it for whatever reason.

So like, I struggle with chin on the second fight on default 98UM difficulty and go through hell fighting team yagami.

But I manage to beat omega Rugal first attempt with just terry bogard(since the other two FF members got destroyed) by spamming BURN KNUCKLE over and over.

Dat SNK AI genius at work.

Also I'm glad that dumb sidestep mechanic was dropped from the series proper. I hate it and it's annoying when the CPU just keeps spamming it.

If any of you recheck XIII on Team Japan's ending's last scene where Kyo & Iori clash their flames as the screen goes white, a dialogue "Nothings change.♪" shows up, which appears to be Ash's speaking manner. But i can't be sure if this imply Ash alive somewhere or presumed deceased

SNK wiki said Team Japan win the XIII tournament, known canonical endings are Team Japan itself, also Team Elisabeth, & Team Yagami. I dunno if Team Ikari & K' are part of canonical ending too

Its probablty just a narrator saying it in a jokey manner.

Also if anyone's curious, yes Ragequitter 87 has done KOF XII and XIII as well, on Xbox 360. He organizes his videos into playlists so you should be able to find them under a "King of Fighters" playlist title.,

Shingo is probably one of the best "clones" ever done. He's hilarious and his attacks being Bad Ass Normal variations of Kyo's moves are funny. SHIIINGO KICKKK ftw.

And jeez watching that UM vid Omega Rugal sure is a cheapo as a secret boss. Of course it's to be expected, good playing with Krizalid there though. Tornado leg's chip damage is stupidly good.

How do you get to fight Orochi in 98UM? I always end up fighting O Rugal instead.

And don't even bother with the lower difficulty continue service. It does absolutely nothing.

I believe it's based on getting lots of SDM finishes.

6+ DM wins (I want to say across all six matches) gets you Orochi. 5-8 gets you Goenitz. Fewer gets you Omega Rugal.

Who you fight during the 4th match is based on how many DM wins you get + if or if not you've lost a round prior, too.

Yeah I'm forever doomed to shingo tier.

Feels like the game is saying, "look I can see you're not very good so here's shingo as a miniboss lol"

It's funny how he always dodges like 3-5 times in a row before attacking. Funnily enough I actually get pretty okay results with shingo. He's one of my better characters.

Too bad the version of the game I have doesn't translate the win quotes. Omega Rugal's victory quote is great. "Repeat after me, I will never take on a God again!" This is why he's my favorite KOF villain, and frankly one of my favorites villains in gaming period.
