Yes they did, in fact, I say they still do, XIII sprites are quite impressive, they only need to look a bit more fluid for the next installment.

Really, really wish they kept the pre battle taunts. Silly little dialogue boxes don't cut it.

I want Kim Mother Fucking Kaphwan to point at me, gaze into my soul and go AKU WA YURUSAN! HA!!, just itching to kick my evil ass.

[up]Yeah, they could have put in both, like in SVC Chaos.

Now, now, I also want the pre-battle taunts back.

but let's not forget that XIII was just the first step back in the right direction after the XII blunder and the erratic previous installments.

XI was pretty sweet, though.

And it had all those NGBC additions!

I sure said that!

When I said "previous installments", I didn't mean the canon previous installment.

I meant things like Neowave

[up][up]Those NGBC additions mainly only showed up in the console version.

Well, yeah, but arcades are more or less dead in the States, so anyway.

Even discounting them, XI was fantastic. It was like '03, but BETTER in almost every way.

Except for Shion and Magaki, who were obnoxious even by SNK Boss standards.

I sure said that!

Er what NGBC inclusions? I remember Gato, B. Jenet, and Tizoc who were all from Garou, Gai tendo and silber from Buriki One, and that boomerang dude + the crow demon guy from the old game whose name escapes me at the moment.

No NGBC characters though. XI did mark the glorious return of Duck King. Guy is gold.

[up][up] The console version of XI had (Charge-moves, open-shirt, Almighty Stance) Robert, Mai, Tung Fu Rue, Geese, Mr. Big, and Hotaru as unlockable characters. It was pretty cool, especially since two of them had never been in a KoF game before.

I say that they're NGBC inclusions because they were more-or-less imported from that game, except for Geese, oddly, who went back to the Razor Wind Reppukens from '98.

I would kill to have Yuki and Ai in a KOF game.

Don't ask what's wrong with me, because I don't know either.

Okay, I will never understand what they were trying to achieve with Clone Zero's infamous fart move. I don't get what he's doing exactly.

So, I finally got Ko F XIII. It's tougher than I expected... sort of. I can still competently play it, like always, but the combos are giving me trouble. Granted, I never could quite get the hang of King Of Fighter combos - they're a lot more precise (or at least more particular) than Street Fighter combos, and so I find them a bit less intuitive. I tended to get by on out-striking my opponent rather than having to use combos - and I still can - but from what I've seen combos are intended to be a more important aspect now, so I figured I should finally try to get on that. Good thing this one has a mission mode.

This Drive Combo stuff is... strange. Internet says the timing is different for every single move, with some needing to be activated before they hit, others being needed to activate while they hit, and others after they hit. Which is just wonderful.

They changed Chin's entire moveset, which is alright - luckily for me I really like his new moves.

Eh, it's not like Drive combos are required for regular play. Just tournament play. tongue

As a general rule in fighting games, I try to learn all the mechanics and especially anything that the computer can use against you. As the computer knows how to Drive Cancel effectively, so must I.

I was about to post that the final boss was easier than I expected... and then I found out he had a second form just as cheap as I was expecting.

Unlike some other fighting game bosses, I almost never have any enjoyment or excitement in fighting SNK bosses (or bosses in other series that take cues from them). They're usually just a chore you need to get through to finish arcade mode. It's why I have little qualm with using the handicaps if and when I lose the first time.

For me it depends how cheap they are. Guys like Grant Geese or NGBC Neo Dio are fun to fight, even Goodman I'll beat legit if i'm in the mood. But guys like Goenitz or King lion ugh no. I'll try and beat them maybe once without services but once I do I'll probably never do it again.

I also hate fighting bosses with really cheap gimmicks, like Gill's resurrection.

Same here. I've only been able to take care of Magaki with the corner trick. Shion was actually right around where I wish most fighting game bosses were in terms of difficulty.

I played NGBC and I hated mizuchi, he felt so cheap with his pillars of energy and screen filling attack and regenerating health and can't decide if king lion is cheaper or him?

gotta stay cool

Ugh yeah Mizuchi is bad and really unfun but King Lion is worst if you ask me. His priority is just so absurd and he input-reads like crazy making that counter flash thing incredibly hard to avoid. Then the OTG sword slash is just BS on so many levels, once he did a DYNAMITE on me into a corner, then sword slashed me like 3 times in a row killing me and I was just like wtf.

Haohmaru is an AI killer for all the NGBC bosses but even Lion can give him trouble if cornered.
