I'm happy Rock's in. I'm in the same boat Max is in, since Rock was also my gateway SNK character. He was my favorite in Cv S 2 as well.
I am disappointed that it was leaked, because I wanted to be surprised, especially since they said Rock wouldn't be in the game.
At least he admits he'll only play it for a week before dropping it again.
Honestly, what I want to know is why is Rock such a gateway character for so many people? Because I never saw the appeal. Maybe this is different for some people, but for me, all I saw was a bland young whippersnapper who was a combo of Terry and Geese without actually having his own unique identity gameplay wise. I didn't care for his gameplay, and I never cared for his design, so I just flat out don't care about him. So why do so many other people do?

Rock's been around for close to 20 years, too, so it's not like he's some new character we're complaining about.
Rock was a Gateway character to SNK cause when SNK and Capcom did their big crossover
Rock was the most SHOTO like of the SNK characters outside maybe Terry to that DAMN KEN!
That and his victory pose is ****ing solid

This is the same game that had Iori, Ryo, Yuri, and Athena, who are all about as shoto as Rock.
The anime emo guy wing thing is probably what did it, though, I agree.

Rock's also well-liked for being a character who's the biological son of Geese, almost unarguably SNK's fan-favorite antagonist, and the adoptive son of Terry, who's nearly as beloved as a protagonist. He appeals to a lot of people.

Yeah, except the people who latched on to him in CVS 2 probably didn't know one lick of that, so that can't be it.

Well, I still don't understand how Bonne Jenet appeals to people. Different strokes and all that. Yes, I know 'she's sexy', but so are quite a lot of characters, and most of those characters have less annoying voices. I don't think 'she's sexy' is enough any more. :V
Since folks have been saying that Rock was a gateway character from his appearance in CvS2... I wonder if things would have been different if they replaced him with K'.
Incidentally, this is probably the pettiest gripe I've ever indulged, but I'm not a huge fan of Rock's jacket, either. Most SNK characters wear Impossibly Cool Clothes, but Rock takes the 'impossible' part Up To Eleven there, especially when placed alongside Wild Wolf!Terry's fairly normal-looking bomber jacket. It could exist in real life, but he'd have to have commissioned someone to make it for him because who'd make it otherwise? :V

Wild Wolf Terry is so good and SNK sleeps on that design far too much.
Not to hate on the classic look, but I think WW's as good as Terry's ever looked. Just give him the Rising Tackle in it and I'd never have a reason to pick vanilla T.
And I dunno. I've seen those baby gap jackets in real life.
On women. But hey. Do you Rock. I'm gay so I'm not hating, but I don't think it looks good at all regardless of gender.

If I can remember back when I was maybe 12 or 13 and picked up cvs2, I liked Rock because he looked the most like me out of the cast, and I could identify with his personality type. I thought his moves were unique. Even if they are borrowed from Terry and Geese, they're remixed in different ways, kind of like Alice. His flash step is unique to him, and I guess overall I liked his aesthetic. Rock wasn't just another guy in a karate uniform, and he wasn't overly weird or campy. He was a good balance between the Ko F and SF styles.
Nowadays I've grown to like Terry much more, though Terry was my second favorite back then. The way some of you guys describe Rock is how I tend to see Iori, to be honest.
