I don't think Goggs or SA really cares about how much exposure we give to Literature so much as that we give attention to Anime/Manga. Considering SA's "animes are for pedophile manchildren" stance, I don't think they'll be satisfied until we delete every reference to them (and webcomics for that measure) and take up the same stance.

Goggs actually said at one point that he's not actually trying to change anything, he's just doing it for the lulz, more or less.

I'm seeing rather dumb posts on The TV Tropes forums. By several members logic, We should scrap the forums altogther.

[up][up][up] In fairness, I'd wager that a good 90% of Anime is for pedophile manchildren.

I think we can remove examples on Badass creed as technically I don't think one person makes a creed.

So would anyone here consider themselves a fan of the series? Despite what they think of us, its pretty damn funny. Besides, a community driven wiki like this was bound to attract poor quality posters.

[up][up] I guess Western animation can be guilty of that too. Ugh...My Little Pony. *shudder*

[up] I'd definitely consider myself a fan of the series. It highlights the exact type of person that really brings this site down. It's also taught me that I shouldn't expect intelligence from people on here.

No, but I think it's a perfect example of Strawman Has a Point. It's simply bashing the site with not a hint of constructive criticism, and yet it does show the ugly truth on what kind of things we've allowed to go on in this wiki, and that must change. Now.

And that is kinda changing, since we're reworking the system (entries have to be signed) and we're debating a subforum for TT.

I've mentioned goons being hypocritical, and that admitting you post on ADTRW will out you on thin ice for the rest of them.

A goon said it best:

"Most goons HATE ANIME! The ones that don't go 'I like anime but I'm not a pedophile really!'".

Hating on anime for all being fanservicey moe pandering is like hating on all music because generic top 40 pop hits suck.

Hating on anything is fruitlessly pointless.

being angry that the fans of that anything won't stop rattling on about it in your face is a much better response.

I don't know whether I really have a dog in this fight, but I have to wonder how much classic literature those who complain about the lack of classic literature on this wiki really have/read.

As for the anime business, if someone would let me know what exactly I'm allowed to like, I'd appreciate it. kthxbye

Am I the only person to see the historical irony in people cheerfully describing themelves as "SA goons"?

"Oh, really? Are you in it for the nice Brown Shirt or do you prefer the organised Nazi mob violence more?" I mean, they're entitled to put what they like on their site, but they could have thought that part of it through a bit more.

EDIT - Also, on the classic literature point - there are plenty of works pages for classic books/plays. It is often true that on the Main pages the literature examples are more likely to be from fantasy novels or SF than Shakespeare, but as someone said, that's demographics.

I don't think the series necessarily does any more harm than good. The people who watch it probably have a negative preconception of the site anyway. If people who haven't visited the website are making the assumption that the examples featured in the series reflect accurately TV Tropes as a whole, they'll probably check the site out and find that that's not really the case.

Still, perhaps I'm being a little bit optimistic.

Well, seems like we've run out of things to say about this series. Locking it off so this bile-fest can slide back into the obscurity it deserves.
