The definition of Lethal Lava Land puts it as a videogame trope. It's very well explained, fits most videogame examples in the page (at least those that I recognize or are explained enough) and it's part of the Stock Videogame Settings. What we can do is the same we do with other videogame pages: separate videogame examples from non-videogame ones, put them in folders, and let it be. There's no reason to change the trope just because of the examples that aren't supposed to be there in first place.
There are no heroes left in Man.Actually, what we tend to do with most examples that are shoehorned into videogame settings they don't belong is cut them. They aren't the trope. They don't belong in the trope. It's that simple.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI've seen pages where videogame examples and the rest were separated, but I wouldn't mind cutting them. However, if we cut them it's probable they'll appear again. All I want to know is, what do we do?
There are no heroes left in Man.Oh, they're normally separated, but that's because sometimes the videogame setting tropes show up in geek media referencing videogames or they're bad examples that really should be cut.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSo, we cut them, and finished, right?
There are no heroes left in Man.Sounds like a plan.
I went and dropped a bunch of examples from the other sections. I archived em on the discussion page if anyone cares to find another trope for them.

Rhymes with "Protracted."Hold on, plenty of the non videogame examples do seem to fit as well, notably the star wars example, but not exclusively. The only ones with clear misuse seem to be the real life examples. The rest may be misuse or may be poorly written, instead.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. So, they have puzzles with lava and typical enemies? Or, let's make it simpler, do they come from videogames? Don't think so.
There are no heroes left in Man.The Star Wars one is more of a Single-Biome Planet.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Okay, I think that's workable, and it's already noted as a subtrope of Everything's Cooler With Lava.
So I agree, nuke the incorrect examples and we're done.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Bad examples could perhaps be sent to the supertrope unless there is another better trope. Also, if we are going to insist this must be about videogames, a rename might be in order. Maybe change "land" to "level"?
Another thing to consider: Is Everything's Cooler With Lava even going to survive the current putsch of Everything's Better With X tropes?

I would imagine so - "gratuitous lava" does seem like a trope.
The star wars example is like a factory version of link's death mountain volcano area.
Lethal Lava Level sounds like an improvement.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Let's add The Fire Level as a redirect then, shall we?
Rhymes with "Protracted."Given the misuse shown, I think renaming to Lethal Lava Level is fair. Also, acceptable Added Alliterative Appeal ascertained.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!I don't think that's necessary. Now that we've got it cleaned up and curated, it should be fine. Note also that the current title is already a direct reference to a video game.
Rhymes with "Protracted."However without previous knowledge of that Land is more general than Level. I support the renaming.
There are no heroes left in Man.Lethal Lava Land is consistent with the other stock level tropes which are mostly named after actual video game levels.
Like Big Boo's Haunt or Shifting Sand Land.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianYeah, so? Land makes misuse easier than Level, and without previous knowledge it doesn't matter it fits. I didn't know "Lethal Lava Land" was the actual name of a level until it was said here.
There are no heroes left in Man.Actually, looking over the relevant index page, I think you're incorrect. Most of them are not named after a particular level. And mind you, the average player of those games really does not memorize the level names anyway.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Yeah I was wrong.
There wasn't much a consistancy to begin with.
I personaly think it would be best if we just gave all these videogame levels generic, idiot-proof names like Fire Level and Ice Level.
But I guess "Lethal Lava" is descriptive enough anyway.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianWe've cleaned up the bad examples, added redirects, and addressed the issue this thread was created to discuss. Let's not turn every TRS thread into a rename discussion just cuz someone thinks we can do better.
Unless we're trying to start a campaign to rename every Stock Video Game Setting with a Trope Namer, I think we're done here.
Rhymes with "Protracted."
But while the real life stuff fits the Everything's Cooler With Lava, it doesn't fit the use of lethal lava land in fiction.
