Absolutely have the separate CAS weapons return, and flesh them out fuller.

I beat COTS. Iron Sword and Katana were the way to go. Also, I don't know about you, but I wasn't that outleveled.

I remember the CAS Kunai style had a bunch of moves the AI was really bad at blocking, and a lot of really cool moves in general. I think my favorite might have been the CAS Staff style, though, just for how strange it got at times.

My favorites were, in no particular order: Iron Sword, Wave Sword, Kunai, Katana & Shuriken, Lance, and then to a lesser extent, Katana (for the throws), and Sword and Shield (for the projectiles).

Back when some of us posted our created characters, I envisioned Uche as being between Iron Sword and Wave Sword, Chie as being mostly Katana & Shuriken with some of the Kunai flip kicks, and Leodegrance as being Lance.

I do hope this series really is about to unearth a new installment or something. I'd love to get back into this: I had IV, and while I played it I never owned V. I figure anticipating a VI might be better than buying V now.

Castrating yourself is preferable to buying V

...assuming you're male, in which case I apologize if you are female

I can only hope that they're even making a full-out SCVI, much less hope that it will be good.

[up][up] To elaborate a little bit on [up], the general consensus is that V ruins the story by killing most of the old characters and replacing them with new flanderized versions, and the gameplay, while good, has a tacked on feeling meter for a super move. In short, waiting is probably a good call.

I would only recommend V to you if...

  • You could not care less about the plot or characters of the series as a whole.
  • You did not main Seong Mi-Na, Yun-Seong, Talim, or Zasalamel.
  • You like CAS for aesthetics over other stuff.
  • You didn't play defensively in previous games.
  • You played past installments for multiplayer more than single-player.

If you fit the above criteria, go nuts. The game's pretty cheap now and I've seen it in pretty much every used game store that I run into, so getting it should be no problem.

I've played V before, so I know most of that stuff already. I just never owned it.

I do care more about CAS than most other modes in this series, but it's kind of countered by the fact that single player options in V are much less... everything. While imo the series hasn't had a single player mode as good as Chronicles of the Sword since then (I also preferred III's story mode, IV did have enough to keep me satisfied.

As for cast replacement, while I deeply missed Zas and Talim that sort of thing happens all the time in fighting games. I do like the fighting mechanics of V (I believe V has EX attacks or something similar to it, which is... interesting. Jury's out for me on whether that's a good thing for the series), but not enough to be worth a buy over other things - especially since I don't have multiplayer readily available.

The indecision is a main reason why I'm waiting to see if they really are developing a new one. I'd rather not buy a new copy of a game I already own (and I'm sure I'll find my old copy the moment I buy a new one), but I don't know if I should just get V for the sake of tiding me over until they come out with a VI or not.

I kinda find it disturbing that someone could like a character, especially in this series, primarily for their moveset and not for the character, development and story.

Also, I'd add to that "if you're not one of these, go nuts" list: if you care about story.

Some people play these games for the gameplay, not out of affection for fictional characters. I don't see what's disturbing about it at all.

Personally, I feel like a good game has you connect with what you're playing instead of just using it as a tool to win. It's like, just using a character because their play style is a specific way, and not caring who uses it as long as the play style is there. veers closer towards "Stop Having Fun" Guys to me. It isn't that exactly, and there is some fun to be had in using a play style, but if it's just for technical reasons, it's still something like Complacent Gaming Syndrome or something I'm not personally a fan of.

For example, I was good at Yunsung's play style in 2, and not that great with Zasalamel's in 3, but I prefer Zasalamel by far as a character, and when they're both missing in 5, I just miss Zasalamel.

But, it's just a personal opinion.

Some people just want to have fun playing the fucking game. :| Good story is not necessary for a good game, except in the case of games that revolve around affecting the story.

One needn't be completely focused on winning and strategy to enjoy a game without paying much attention to the story.

Weird opinion because the different nuances do disconnect you from the character though. Its why people stopped playing Mitsu in SCV. They loved his stance changes. Or why many dropped Leixa because she was no where as good as Xianghua.

I still play Baek in Tekken but they really shit on his character in TTT 2 to the point I'm not gonna play him even if he magically appears in T7 because I hate what they did to the character. He's not as fun anymore.

Do they make any mention of the missing characters btw?

Apparently Word of God claims Talim's still alive. Quite why it didn't say why she wasn't in SC 5, or even her damn weapon style I don't know.

Nothing, as if she never existed, wtf? Never mind that it was rushed, but did they let their B-team write the script or something.

She's like one of the youngest in the series too.

I wouldn't really mind young SC 2-4 Talim myself but yeah it would be weird. And creepy. I mean as long as she's back and all

And bring back her SC 2 P1 outfit, that was my favourite.

Sc2 Talim is best Talim.

Yeah SC 5's story is pretty weak.

SCII everything is better than SC[anything else] everything, Vertigo; we know this. We had a crowner and everything.

EDIT: Also, SCV doesn't have a Story mode worthy of the name; we know this, too.
