This thread exists to discuss British politics.
Political issues related to Northern Ireland and the Crown Dependencies (the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) are also considered on-topic here if there's no more appropriate OTC thread for them.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
As with other OTC threads, off-topic posts may be thumped or edited by the moderators.
- There is a dedicated thread to discuss LGBTQ+ rights in the United Kingdom. That doesn't mean it's always off-topic here, but unless something's directly linked to political events, that's probably a better thread for it.
- There's also a separate thread to talk about your favourite British Prime Ministers.
Recent political stuff:
- The vote to see if Britain should adopt Alternative Voting has failed.
- Lib Dems lose lots of councils and councillors, whilst Labour make the majority of the gains in England.
- The Scottish National Party do really well in the elections.

I swear.... if I actually hear anyone say that I will punch them... that pisses me off more than it should...
advancing the front into TV TropesWe can say goodbye to any electronic transactions if that happens.
Not that it's anything new (the US government tried to get the creator of Pretty Good Privacy done on the basis that the software counted as arms dealing).

TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerThis got killed the last time by banks pointing out this would make online banking impossible to safely carry out. It's politics by people who have watched too many films where the heroes use 'secret backdoors' to save the day and who don't have a clue how real life technology actually works.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.I mean the paper is always offensive, sexist and moronic, but it never hurts to evidence it.
... <shrugs> I await the next barrel they find to scrape with no baited breath at all.
...What.
Seriously, WTF?!
JFC, the supermarket tabloids I used to see in the supermarket when I was a kid had more class and decor than this shit!
Disgusted, but not surprisedthis is a paper that openly supported the Nazi's, nothing should surprise you
advancing the front into TV TropesThe Scottish Parliament has voted to allow a request for another independence vote.

The train has no breaks.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.now where did I put the list.....
- ticks "new Scottish referendum" off "I told you so" list
Head in the sand politics again: MPs walk out of committee meeting because Brexit report 'too gloomy'.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I don't think anyone was arguing with you. That would be rather like arguing that the Earth isn't going to be spinning tomorrow.
Though the posters in the European politics thread brought up a good point. Scotland doesn't just transfer from UK to EU. It has to stand on its own for a while. I wonder if the implications of that could make the result of any referendum something different than lolf***yes!.
Then there's what the May government does with the request. It'll look a bit odd flatly denying a referendum when her entire government is devoted to carrying out one.
Wow. The policy makers of a Great Power are basically sticking their fingers in their ears and going "La la la, I can't hear you."
Wow.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. It's interesting to note the Brexit voters who claimed they were motivated by the desire to see their grandchildren living in a sovereign state while their grandchildren were voting Remain and claim they feel betrayed by their grandparents' generation (and who don't feel their sovereignty was the issue their grandparents' felt it was); they seem to handle it by dismissing their grandchildren's points of view as 'you're too young to know what's good for you' — even if the grandchildren are adult and parents themselves.
This is why families were divided by Brexit, and remain divided now.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. It begins, officially. Best of luck to you Brits with that.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundIt's so, so stupid. Well, 70s brown-outs, black-outs and multiple other economic woes, welcome back.
I'd hoped to never see you again, but... hey.
Leaked draft resolution sets out the EU's negotiating position.
Shockingly it doesn't boil down to "give them everything they want" like we were told it would.
"Yup. That tasted purple."what, you mean the rest of the world isn't bending over backwards to give a small island nation off the north coast of France everything it wants because it threw a hissy fit? I am SHOCKED!
advancing the front into TV TropesApparently the Brexiteers forgot the UK wasn't a mighty empire anymore.
Disgusted, but not surprisedwhat are you talking about? we're called GREAT Britain! that makes us greater than all the others as we're GREAT Britain! GREAT is in out name!
advancing the front into TV TropesOne thing I have wanted to do for a while is to start an online petition about officially removing the word Great from the country's name as it is nothing but encourage arrogance and is utterly pointless.

Knowledge is Power, Guard it Wellthe name basically means greater than Brittany, a small province in the north west of France
advancing the front into TV TropesIt's not that small, though the administrative region (smaller than the historical duchy of Brittany because it doesn't include the département where Nantes is) is one of the smallest since the merging in 2015 (Brittany was unchanged, while other regions were merged).
He will be duly ignored.
Si Vis Pacem, Para Perkele
You're forgetting that young people are too stupid to know what's best for them.
Also looks like Rudd is doubling down on the calls to ban data encryption again.
