Okay, apparently the custom title was not removed. I thought it was, because the main title isn't showing up as "Nudge," but I was mistaken. So that still needs to be fixed.

If You Know What I Mean. Sometimes the old custom titles keep appearing after they are changed/deleted.

'Nudge' is staying until we get a real replacement. "If you Know What I Mean" is gone for good. It will not be returned. It is too liable to be misused and overused. Plus, it's ^%^%$$% dialog.

Personally, Nudge is even worst for basic reasons (like being extremely non-indicative and misleading) that I stated in an earlier thread that got locked. It doesn't work as a replacement unless you actually replace the wicks for If You Know What I Mean.

The customized title system shouldn't be use for renaming anymore. It comes with a lot of complications, like breaking sentences and throwing off alphabetization, while leaving potholes intact.

Can we at least have "Nudge Nudge". That at least hints at what the trope is. The current custom title makes no sense.

I think we suggested Lampshaded Double Entendre. If you want people to not sinkhole it, suck the fun out of the name and give it something rather dull.

I have to go with Deboss here: the only way we'll kill the misuse of this thing is to give it as SPOONy a title as possible. I vote for Lampshaded Double Entendre.

Think of all the uses of "insert."

So yes.

[up] It does, and it's as dirty as your mind makes it, or doesn't make it. Which is good for the trope. I'm just worried that whatever we do, it's just going to wind up potholed to every Double Entendre on the wiki. I don't know if just changing the name is going to stop tropers from pointing out their own double entendres.

Should we replace the current crowner with a alternate titles crower?

So am I. (I'd say more but I'm stumbling over how to phrase it.)

Okay. The customized-title renames are looking ugly, damaging clarity and not fixing misuse. (Actually, this is damaging in a lot of places, but I'm talking in this thread.)

If 90% of the existing uses of the title are misuses, and Fast Eddie considers the consensus decision unacceptable, then I think that the next most practical response is an I Am Not Making This Up nuke. Redlink the phrase, forbid new usage, let Wiki Magic clean it up. The custom title, being a bluelink, is messy but lacks the obvious solution that a redlink would provide.

Plus, the current method doesn't stop tropers from potholing it.

Adding "redlink" and "nuke" options to the crowner. Vote away?

Kay. Eddie, should I edit out the "keep as non-trope" answer on the crowner, since you've said that you're not going to accept that?

I went and and made a alt titles crowner with everything suggested before. Feel free to add to it.

As for me, I like Nudge Nudge, thought Nudge Wink or something like that would be good too, as long as it get the point across that someone is nudging someone else and explaining the Double Endurance.

There is only one problem with Insert Double Entendre Here, in that it could attract editors potholing it for any arbitrary Double Entendre, just like they already do; it risks becoming the "new" If You Know What I Mean.

So as usual, Eddie imposes a "heck I don't like this, it has to go" "fiat" again? Weren't we like, trying to avoid that happening? Oh well at least unlike the previous times it has happened, the options in the crowner are pretty good, in particular the Permanent Red Link Club idea, which makes notorious why not and invites editors to know why.

^ It's a good life, right?

But redlinking has the advantage of making the misuse obvious to everyone, which means a potentially wider pool of editors actively cleaning it up. Still leaves the task of migrating the correct usages to whatever title the trope winds up with....

Okay, so. Catch22 time.

We are not allowed to retain the title as a Catchphrase, but we also have no consensus on any alternative option.

Should we go with the "use title as redirect" option anyhow?

Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
