^^^I didn't say caring about your characters meant treating them nicely. He just loves them, including a love of tormenting them. No different from any other love between creator and character.

If you pay attention to Meg's character she's easily the most abhorrent human being in the show, therefore her suffering is funny.

Of course, if that weren't the case and she was in fact the sweetest, most well-meaning character, it would be even funnier because dark=funny and these are just a bunch of damn drawings we're talking about.

Exactly, just a bunch of drawings. It barely qualifies as animation.

Actually, South Park is one of the most conservative shows on television (the creators identify as right-leaning Libertarians). It just happens to have fans that are left-leaning.

Anyone who hates that Family Guy is "too liberal" is already too conservative or they wouldn't have ever noticed.

And you have to be HYPER fucking conservative to think South Park is liberal.

Seriously, what has Family Guy said that's so "liberal?" Don't bash gays? Don't be prejudiced? Only a monster is offended by these kinds of views anyway.

I wonder why a lot of tropers blame Seth Mac Farlane. Is he responsible for everything that is wrong with this show? I thought there were writers that should be blamed for most of the crap.

Some folks on the Internet think they're a special GIFT to the world, and others aren't. In this perspective, they're kind of right.

^^Why not when it's one of the most popular complaints against the show and makes no sense to any normal person?

I can only think of maybe one or two episodes where he came across as just a mouthpiece.

I don't mean being "too Liberal" is a problem when it comes to Holly Wood most writers and actors are Liberal. Believing in gay rights, making fun of Bush, etc. I never complained about that. Okay, so technically not everyone in Holly Wood considered themselves as Liberals most of them but adhere to Liberal beliefs. Being bias isn't the problem. You are suppose to be bias when it comes to your beliefs. The problem is that show depicts "Liberals" as higher evolutionary step in a world full of uneducated and unevolved morons (everyone that disagrees with you). The world just gets better by believing these things instead actually doing anything, but the evil Republican party misleads the ignorant flock of sheep known as "everybody else but yourself." Our heroes must go and fight the mental cancer because everybody adhere to a specific set of beliefs.

^^NEVER.

I wouldn't even care if Family Guy had never even existed, yet the specific complaints about it make me facepalm. It's so stupid to me when people complain about works of entertainment (instead of just not watching them and moving on) that I want nothing more than for every complainer about every work of entertainment to feel stupid. I know that will never happen, but a good internet rant makes me feel a little better every time.

I don't know why people keep going on with this "now it's just Seth using Brian to preach his views" crap. There's only like two episodes I can think of where that's the case, and they were like two years ago.

Isn't saying that you can't criticize tv shows and movies kinda stupid? The fact that shown and marketed to the public means that - never mind here is the fun version. http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/3/24/

Sorry, I admit it. I just like to bash Family Guy, but my last post was to clarify the post before that.

Where the hell did I ever use the word "criticize?" I said it was stupid to complain about entertainment. There is a distinct difference, and I never said you can't do it, I just said that it's fucking idiotic to choose to do so. When people bitch and whine about the popularity or success of something they don't enjoy, they come off as clueless, bitter and egomaniacal.

Family Guy is just a bunch of jokes strung together by sequential drawings. That isn't hurting anything just by existing. Every single person who goes out of their way to "bash" shows they don't watch is a big, fat tool and should feel bad.

I like the new seasons of Family Guy not as good as the early seasons and American Dad but still funny. I also consider the shows Crowning Moment Of Awesome to be season EIGHT (cue Shock Cord) episode "April in Quaohog" lot's of random but funny moments good wisecracks and a funny ending scene (the scene's with peter on coacane were also funny)

Also The Cleveland Show grew the beard in season two

^*LOL, you really skim-read everything didn't you? I've distinctly pointed out that I don't like Family Guy, for one thing. For another, I made a very strong distinction between legitimate criticism and the infantile bitching in threads like this and others. If you can't see the difference you're part of the problem.

And for the record, I literally do not, have never, and never will bash any creative work, anywhere, just because I don't like it. The fact that it's an almost universal behavior doesn't stop me from looking down on it. So many people are deluded into believing that complaints actually have some sort of constructive impact, when it's clear from the state of the media that nobody out there is listening or needs to listen.

Good for you. You can leave anytime, you know. For the record, I have never said I hated it (you can look at all my previous posts in this thread if you really don't believe me), nothing is free from criticism. I just like hanging around the Western Animation thread, is all.

Ironically, I thought "It's A Trap!", which aired on FOX for the first time last night, was better than "Something Something Something Dark Side", because it actually made me laugh! The show's hit or miss, with mostly miss. I don't watch all of it these days anyway.

The first three seasons of Family Guy are pretty good. It really started to decline when it came back after cancellation but it was still enjoyable from time to time. By the time the 7th season came around you could really see that almost nothing remained of the original mindset, even the animation is lazier than the first few seasons. (First seasons used more 'camera angles')

This last season gave me quite a few chuckles though. I also hate that people get pissy about every little thing that the show does nowadays, a simple glance at the Dethroning moment of suck page should provide enough examples.

Is it weird that my favorite episode is the murder/mystery one where they go to James Wood mansion and he and a bunch of other unimportant, recurring characters get killed, seeing as it's probably the least funny episode of the entire series.
