[up] Yeah, the Atelier Meruru thing was a joke. It most certainly isn't big or epic or amazing. You know, I kind of want to send a copy of it to some of these naysayers and say it got reviews and sold surprisingly well. See if it changes their perceptions at all.

The response would probably be, "I ain't playing some pink princess game" actually. Never mind.

Got a Techdirt post and a rather bothersome itch I need to scratch.

Leland Yee has something to say about gamers butting their heads into this argument of violent video games.

"Gamers have got to just quiet down," Yee, D-San Francisco, said in an interview Tuesday. "Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry's lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest."

Oh, and I suppose the guy who said "Video games are child molesters" is much more credible?

A politician criticizing people for self-interest? Oh, that's rich[lol]

But seriously, that guy's a total doucheknob.

Leeland Yee is seriously one of the most out of touch politicians I've ever seen, but somehow he manages to get re-elected.

Saw a story related to this on my local news, and this was the only article online I could find about it. Basically, a Ridge Hill Multiplex in Yonkers got rid of a light gun game that they had in there because one man came in there and was shocked by it and bitched about it, calling it "the most violent arcade game you’ve seen". For the record, it was the Terminator 2: Judgement Day arcade game, which looks like this (and here's a video if that image doesn't get the point across).

While I am sympathetic to his shock (considering that he "has found himself at the end of a gun three times in his life"), it's greatly diminished by the fact that his first response to seeing a slightly violent video game was to go all Jack Thompson on it. That's just overkill.

I mean, heaven forbid he watches the movie or something. Poor guy would have a heart attack in the prologue. You know, the one with tanks running over a solid floor of human skulls, then segues into a flaming skeleton-ridden playground.

I hate my state, so much.

It's not that I hate Feinstein, Boxer, or Yee because they are democrats. I'm a center left kind of guy. I just really hate Feinstein, Boxer, and Yee.

Yee's a new one, right? I remember specifically not voting for him this cycle, and his opponent was a democrat too, but I can't remember which of them was the incumbent.

[up][up][up][up] Oh, wow, that is really overdoing it.

Wait...that's the most violent game he's ever seen? I know that if you don't pay attention the video game culture is surprisingly easy to miss, but EA's marketing is everywhere and it tends to highlight the violence. A lot.

I wonder how he would react to something like Dead Space.

Considering NPR's saying the Vidya game generation is going to be around 40% of the voting block in 2020, I highly doubt any long-term changes are going to stick.

Doesn't San Francisco have instant-runoff? I mean, this wouldn't have even been "better dead than red" because the ticket would've been loaded with Democrats. They specifically voted for this man over others.

No, he's not new on the political scene, though he term-limited out in the CA Assembly and transitioned to being a Senator, which is what you might remember. He ran unsuccessfully for San Francisco Mayor in 2011, coming fifth.

He or his staff also were caught out when trying to edit his Wikipedia article to be more flattering, which makes him an obvious douche, in case being a politician wasn't enough proof.

A library in Paterson has banned certain games from being played on its computers.Link.

I'm...surprised that library lets you dick around playing games on their computers in the first place. They're supposed to be for academic study and public services (downloading tax forms or making job applications if you don't have a computer, etc).

Right, you're not supposed to install that in the library computers.

You're not really supposed to install anything in library computers. Their local software and a browser is sufficient for everything you're supposed to do with them.

Yeah, I can completely agree with that hands down. Libraries are there for studying.

Many free games can be found online, so it's not just an issue of people installing things on the library computers.

From how it sounds in the article, the librarians are more or less becoming babysitters. I knew some kids whose parents worked all day, or had bad home lives and went to the library a lot after school. That might be the issue here, so it could be a good thing for someone to say 'hey, try doing something more constructive with your time'.

I still think it's justified, because having violent imagery shown to the public like that in a public computer is just inappropriate.

I get what you're saying, but I would hope that the public (meaning everyone but the librarians) didn't look too much at the computer I'm using. If I'm doing taxes, research, etc. that's not really everyone's business.

On a side note: the library closest to my home has a separate section of computers for younger children, near the children's book section. For non-children there are desk areas; each desk is between two walls, so you can't see the person next to you.

If you're watching a video or playing a game, that draws the eye. If you're doing taxes, it repels the eye.

The most important thing there, I believe, is the complete lack of a scientific study proving a correlation.

At my public library, there is a huge problem with parents dumping their kids.

Which goes back to the primary solution (and in my mind the only solution):

Parent(s) and Gaurdians need to live up to their responsibilities and raise their own damn kids.
