I'd read it if I knew a good scanlation.
I tried to get the anime OVA back in the day, until I learned the DVD was dub-only (odd since the company behind it usually was good about dual-language DV Ds).
I'm also aware that there was an anime TV series in the 1970s that had a completely different storyline from the manga. I've seen the OP and well, that alone practically sold me on the show:
Too bad its only available in Japan.
visit my blog!Oddly enough, the TV series reminds me of Batman. As in the superhero is the actual persona, and the human form is just the mask.
Though you may be able to find the OV As on youtube, they're either badly translated, or flagged/ blocked out by now due to the mature content.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.The art's pretty crude, but I like it overall.
Yeah. As I said, it's as goofy as Osamu Tezuka, and hardly fits the subject matter at times.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I remember this one line...kinda weirdly funny.

Once saw an image macro that was entitled "why Devilman is the best manga ever".
(Ryo Asuka, smoking a blunt): Oh this? It's laced with drugs.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.(Is it sad that I actually recognize where Schitzo's avatar is from?)
Anyway, I just remembered that while I haven't seen much of Devilman, I HAVE seen the first volume of Devil Lady, which I remember being pretty good.
visit my blog!I just rented Devilman Lady from some mom and pop video store.
I like the animation. It reminds me a lot of Batman The Animated Series as far as colorscheme and animation goes.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I hear good things from this, and it also popularized Gorn in Anime and Manga like in Hellsing and Elfen Lied. Violence Jack is even worse as far being gory, though.
But I love Gorn.
You really should get into this series, Demon God Of Chaos. The manga itself is plenty good, but if you can, you might also want to hunt down the OVAS, The Birth and Demon Bird.
I like Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman better than the actual ending to Devilman, though.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I just read this series like yesterday in one sitting, and I greatly enjoyed it. My only real problem with the series is the arc resolutions and beginnings. It's like he cuts off the the very end and the very beginning of his arcs to hit the action parts sooner. If a full are is the numbers 1-10 we only saw 3-7. I disliked that and honestly had trouble following it at times. Well the final battle inverts that rule though which I also did not terribly like either.
A friend is someone you trust to help you move. A best friend is someone you trust to hide the body.To remedy that, I suggest either reading the Amon manga, or the Apocalypse of Devilman OVA.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I'll try and find it.
A friend is someone you trust to help you move. A best friend is someone you trust to hide the body. There should be one or two youtube accounts with the Amon OVA floating around. Try and watch the properly translated one.
EDIT: LOL HERE YOU GO

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Might as well post this here:
In case you haven't known, a new Devilman anime is coming straight to Netflix in 2018.
It's being directed by Mind Game's Masaaki Yuasa and is called Devilman crybaby.
Sure, you can laugh at the absurdity of the subtitle, but there's actually meaning to it. As someone on the discussion thread explains:
The point of the title "Crybaby" means that our titled hero cares so much over the deaths of innocents he would be willing to become a demon to take the fight to them.
Here's the first trailer:
The fact that Yuaasa of all people is directing this is enough to get me super hype.
I never read this series proper and admittedly the narmtastic art is a huge factor why but I always liked Devilman's concept/background/and design(well the later ones). While the animated stuff is mainly entertaining for the gore/animation Idid somewhat enjoy Devilman vs 009andit got me more interested in him, not to mention this series seem to inspire a lot of videogames such as Devil May Cry, Darkstalkers(Jedah is basically a posh, villainous Devilman in design) and Ninja Gaiden. Feels like one of those anime/manga that's interesting to check out simply due to the influence it has on later works and how regardless if you care for it or not, kind of feel the need to respect it to some degree. It's historically important so to speak. It also has some of the weirdest yet coolest demon designs in anime. Sinister and gross but still intriguing. Jinmen is a personal favorite of mine, and I was first exposed to him via MUGEN of all things lol. I didn't even know he was a Devilman villain at first, And man his dub is hilarious, It's so over the top, weirdly acted and cheesy.
In fact that entire dub is one huge nonstop stream of pure narm. I'M DEVILLLMAAAAAAAAAN! YOU BETTER FUCKING BELIEVE IT! It's like an abdriged series dub but officially licensed as the actual dub.
Also I heard this theme from one of animations and fell in love with it.

Masaaki Yuasa's series is out next year on Netflix, so check it out when you can.
Watch SymphogearDevilman is probably one of the most influential manga period because it basically codified a lot of the visual language and tropes for "edgy" or just darker manga and anime. A lot of the design elements like mostly human-looking demons with wings coming from their heads is very common, like Morrigan from Darkstalkers, Ultima from FF Tactics, etc.
The art style of the manga is just how sort of a lot of earlier manga artists drew when the medium was just getting started, there frankly wasn't a particular concern for anatomy or foundational skills so they ended up with stiff poses, faces that don't fit together right, not much in the way of dynamic perspective since the character designs weren't made with that in mind, and just plain crude draftsmanship overall. There's actually a Devilman album floating around (I think it was a doujin?) with some really great artwork by artists like Katsuya Terada◊, Masakazu Katsura◊, and even Yoshitaka Amano◊ that really shows how far manga art has come since then.

The Amon apolocypse of Devil Man manga also has a different artist from Nagai himself.
Berserk also was influenced by it too, mostly in the demon designs.
Watch Symphogear^Lost Children arc villain especially looks Devilmanish.
The Devilman influence in Berserk that I noticed was mostly some vague similarities between Ryo and Akira when compared to Guts and Griffith, and the way Nagai depicts Devilman/Akira's rage/anger reminds me a lot of how demonic Guts looks when he's angry too.
The appearence of Helel/ Lucifer in Megami Tensei is also lifted from Satan in Devilman, too.
Watch Symphogear
Who's read it? What did you think of it?
I've never really read a manga quite like it, and I wish it had better exposure in the states, and a better anime and film adaptation.
And I'm certain that the scanlation just doesn't do the series justice. If only it had an official english translation.
Incidentally, the goofy artstyle, which I see as a darker Osamu Tezuka, tends to narmify some important scenes, but overall, the manga had me tense throughout.
