Yeee-haaaaaw!

Fuckers got what they deserved. Hope this happens every time from now on, and I hope the police and witnesses respond in the same manner. Fuck those guys.

Ha! About time something like this happened.

Echoing Barkey's sentiment, let's hope this is the kind of treatment they get from now on.

I am bothered by them referring to Phelps as a "Democrat activist" which even if it were substantially true (regardless of their defense, it's not), the word should be Democratic.

But they'd be better off leaving it out, as it just shows their bias and makes them look like fools.

Then we'd just have a feel-good story.

[lol]

Really?

Yes, Phelps and his congregation of professional trolls are morons and should never be allowed to speak in public. But beating them? Oh that's a great way to get your point across. Except it's not, because now he's just going to play the persecution card and get more people defending his right to freedom of speech, and you better believe he'll take it to court. Despite the article's claims, it's rather hard for me to believe that somebody's not going to get arrested over this.

So call me a pessimist or whatever, but this is only going to make him more annoying. Before you know it his little band of jackasses will have state troopers defending their right to protest.

I'm not that impressed with the beating, but I thought blocking their cars in the parking lot was clever. At least, cleverer than the usual response to them.

The WBC have had this coming to them for a long time.

That isn't the point.

You can't treat them like this in one part of the country and then defend their right to say what they want in another. You've got to be consistent. It's like a disease, you either purge the whole thing, or you just deal with it, as it stands, America has been just dealing with it. If we're going to reverse that policy than fine, but doing it in one place and not the other is only going to let them get smarter about how to go about being assholes.

I'm just saying I think it's only going to help them in the long run. I rather hope not, but what I want to happen and what will actually happen aren't relevant to each other here.

This doesn't really have anything to do with policy or law, it was civilians and maybe a few police officers (they could have just been misled after all.) If we find out who perpetrated this I wouldn't hesitate to have them charged but I gotta admit I'm in no hurry to find out who did it.

See, that's the awesome part of this, the State Troopers can simply say "Sorry, assets have been prioritized elsewhere. We don't have any officers available."

If the Government was beating the shit out of them and dispersing them, then things would be different, the WBC would have a claim. As it stands now, a bunch of regular people did this and nobody can identify who did it, and the police all did exactly what they were supposed to.

I don't support the government silencing anyone, but that's one of the biggest parts of free speech in my eyes, it's having the right to say whatever you want, but running the risk of getting your ass beat by a bunch of people you're pissing off for saying it. It's social policing, and I approve of it. I don't think any significant voting bloc feels any sort of sympathy for the WBC, and I've never seen anybody sane actually defend their right to do what they do because they are just that bad.

I have to say it sort of annoys me a lot that they absolutely insist on calling him a democrat actuivist as what feels like a backhanded insult at "elitist liberals"

Yeah, just ignore the site. It's what happened that's important. I have to say, I'm proud to see someone stand up to the WBC.

Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.

When I read the title I thought this would be something to do with the World Boxing Council and/or The Dukes of Hazzard. However, these guys are complete idiots and anything short of violence that stops them is fine by me (and if you choose to do what they do, frankly you shouldn't be surprised when people are keen to hit you anyway).

@Supporters: I'm happy too, but do try and understand where this type of behavior can go. Such a place is not generally good. I liked the bit with the trucks and the to-the-letter activities of the police, but the beating only gives them ammunition (for all that I'm sure it was deserved).

@Detractors: If the WBC wants to play rules-lawyer with free speech laws, it should come as no surprise to them that others will do the same. Considering their actions have so far been similar to the ones taken in Mississippi, they have no room to complain.

I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this though.
