So I've haven't played a Fighting Game since I was in, like first grade, but lately I've decided that I want to get into the genre.

My question is thus: for someone who's completely new to fighting games, which is better, Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat 9, or Street Fighter IV? I'm leaning a bit more towards MVC 3, because I know the characters better, but which is the better game for a noob, in your opinion?

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is much easier to learn, and is much easier to play on a controller. It also looks flashier, even at lower levels of play, since combos in general are very easy. Plus, there's a much larger variety in playstyles.

Super Street Fighter IV (Much better than vanilla Street Fighter IV) is much harder for beginners in the genre, but it's still not that hard to get into. It's more about positioning than combos, although both have their place in both games.

I'd suggest Mahvel, just because the execution is MUCH easier on a controller. The three punch, three kick system just doesn't work very well on a controller for me, and I doubt you bought a fight stick (Which are pretty expensive) to make it easier.

Mortal Kombat 9 also looks good (And has a MUCH larger single player experience), but Marvel is definitely the best for a newbie to the genre (And also has the best cast).

ALSO: Don't feel defeated. You WILL be poor at first.

ALSOALSO: Marvel Vs Capcom 3 has a very barebones single player, so if you don't have someone to play locally, Mortal Kombat 9 would probably be a better choice.

Super Street Fighter IV's combos require extremely precise timing to pull off, and if you play online, you'll quiclky find that apparently everybody else in the world did nothing but play Street Fighter 2 during the 90's and you will be owned repeatedly. I'm so bad at it I can only fight the AI, and I've been playing fighting games since I was 15, and I'm 26 now. In short, avoid Street Fighter until you have more experience.

As for MVC 3 and MK 9, What Scardoll says is pretty much true. MVC is very easy to learn, since most combos dont require precise timing, and it looks as over the top as you'd expect from a game where you can have Dante beat up Iron Man. The only thing I can see being a problem is that it's very fast paced, so it gets a little bewildering at times.

MK 9 has a very in depth single player experience, much more so than the other two, since they are designed primarily for online play. It looks great and plays smoothly and intuitively. Also, its freaking Mortal Kombat. Ludicrous amounts of gore are par for the course. Seriously, the Fatalities in this game out-gore everything from the previous games in the series.

You may also want to look at Soulcalibur IV and Tekken 6.

Can't think of anything witty, so have this instead...
