You're assuming the mother survived. She didn't.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialObviously, But How did Satan impregnate her in the first place? Did he just attempt to possess some random woman who was pregnant? If so, then he isn't Rin's father, which it is explicitly stated he is.
BYOON~!He didn't have to possess her. All he had to do was either (a) physically manifest, or (b) possess some poor doomed sap with functional reproductive organs, and stay in the human world long enough to knock her up. Which he succeeded in.
From this, we can conclude that Satan is a really unsatisfying lay.

What's precedent ever done for us?I hope the topic is brought up in the manga. Lmao everyone wonders how it happens.
The only thing I don't understand is how he could have possessed someone long enough to make it happen. They say that Fujimoto was the strongest person to resist it and he lived for all of two minutes when Satan possessed him. =/
Demons cannot simply physically manifest, the Gimmick of the show is that they require a human vessel.
Also, again, Shiro is stated as being the ONLY person capable of sustaining Satan AT ALL, and even then only for a short time. This means A: There were TWO people capable of sustaining satan, and one got burned out (raping) and impregnating rin's mom, or
B: Shiro got possessed before, raped and impregnated some woman, and agreed to raise the kids as repentence for his weakness. This also satisfies the reason as for WHY The son of Satan would even be allowed to live (semi)-normally, instead of being killed or experimented on by the church.
BYOON~!Are you sure that Shiro was the only person capable of sustaining Satan at all? I thought what they meant by the Satan possession thing was that Shiro was the only person who can sustain him long enough for Satan to open the Gehenna gates/get a message across.
Jesus, if it was option B, that's just messed up.

I took it as he was the only person alive at the time who could sustain Satan.
&.
No, its stated that Shiro was the only person capable of sustaining Satan at all. Remember the opening sequence of Episode one? Where one by one all those priests and cardinals got immolated? That was Satan trying to possess someone, and each person in turn got burned by the blue flames. That shows that Satan can nly manifest in people of extreme strength and willpower. Shiro was the highest rank of exorcist, a Paladin, and only succumbed to Satan's possession because his will wavered when Rin told him to never call him "son" again. Only because of this was Satan able to possess him at all. This adds credence to my Option B: Shiro was possessed by Satan before, and under Satan's control raped some woman.
BYOON~!Well you're a cheery ball of joy, aren't ya?
A True Lady's Quest - A Jojo is You!Well, I do try my best to bring a ray of sunshine into every setting I'm in.
I really can't help it. I always need to know the back story of an anime. IF there isn't a sufficient one, or there are plot holes too big/unanswered, I'll come up with theories.
It just turns out this plot hole was a serious Downer Beginning/origin story. (IS there a trope for that?)

BYOON~!No, but there should be.
Anyway, I wouldn't call it a plot hole. It's just something that hasn't been revealed yet. It's a plot hole if it's never explained at all.
Take a chill pill bro =p We'll probably get answers eventually. I didn't know that it was Satan trying to possess someone in the beginning of the anime, didn't even cross my mind (but it makes sense!), Though I did know that Shiro was possessed because of that blow to the mind Rin gave him. The thing is, what could have possibly been a blow to him before? That and the fact that Shiro would have to have survived the first possession of Satan for your option B to happen makes it seem even less possible. Like, seriously, he died with a disfigured face, how could he have survived it before without looking messed up?
I think what it comes down to, really, is that just because Shiro was mentionnned to be the only one who could sustain Satan doesn't really mean he was the only one who could ever support Satan; just that he was the only one who survived the big exorcist killing spree Satan went on.
Presumably, after the opening sequence, he found someone who could support him, conceived Rin and Yukio, and then his stolen body burned out.
I just binged nearly 14 chapters of the manga. Mephisto is AWESOME. Manhandling berserk!Rin like it was nothing special at all, smooth-talking the True Cross Order to get Rin off the hook when everyone found out what he was. My favorite character, really.
This show is great. I've been doing my best not to spoil myself with manga chapters between episodes, but it's hard.
I want to know what's up with that shadowy guy in the class. It seems like he has potential to be an interesting character.

Ah, So I'm not the only one to notice him/her! That person just screams major character, doesn't s/he! S/he's the only person in the class not introduced so far, as well. (well, there's Izumo's friend/lackey, but...)

BYOON~!& By "shadowy guy," do you mean the guy with the hoodie? Spoiler written below in white text (I won't do an actual spoiler in case you can see those); highlight if you really want to know.
Her name is Shura; she's an Upper First Class Exorcist who, if I remember correctly, was sent to see if the son of Satan was really alive. Her specialty is swords, and as such she ends up training Rin.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to that. :D I really loved that shadowy hoodie guy character.
To be honest, redcynic, I don't think the how of Rin and Yukio's birth will ever be elaborated on. It just has too many creepy implications that don't fit in a shounen. I like your second theory though, even though it has such massive Fridge Horror. (:
Also, did no one else find Shiemi's hakama adorable? D: I normally don't like characters like her, but she was so cute.
Episode 6 was pretty good for filler. DAT MEPHISTO SCREENTIME. He's really my favorite character so I love any scene he's in.
Art and animation quality seems to be diminishing, though. :c
As to be expected of filler.
Is Ukobach covered in the manga, or was this true pure filler?
BYOON~!I thought it was fun (then again, I love Cooking is Serious Business stuff, although no Bread Golem in this one.
And the brothes do have a nice dynamic going.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntI heard it was a gaiden chapter in the manga or something.
Another thing: Shiro is stated as being the only mortal alive who could withstand Satan's possession, correct? So how the hell did Satan have a kid? Some sort of anti-immaculate conception?
BYOON~!
