It's because if you play those games, you'll actually help toget Portal 2 out earlier than April 19.
That, and nobody can resist an ARG.
As for your question, I'm sure as hell excited for the game. A bit of cross-promotion isn't going to sour my opinion of a game.

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelI'm not gonna buy Portal 2, but its not related to ARG thing, I'm still gonna complete those stuff in games I own because, hey, its fun!
I've been idling four of the potato pack games for the past 7 hours on three computers.
...what? It's not like I'm letting self-deprecating anticipation get the better of me.
Kanaya, it's hard. Being a kid growing up. It's hard and no one understands. If anyone wanna help me in Killing Floor open that door in aperture map, please tell me xD
But these games are indie games right? So it's more like Valve is giving the indie games more exposure by cross-promoting them with one of the most anticipated games this year.

Yeah, I was planning on pre-ordering but this marketing campaign shows that they have their heads in the wrong places. I'll wait until it's 4.99 or free.
Considering the current price, see you in about 5 to 10 years.
And call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure these developers agreed to this. It's not Gabe Newell stuck a gun to their heads and said "ADVERTISE PORTAL 2 OR WE'LL TAKE DOWN YOUR GAMES".
Hell, KICK IT! was apparently released earlier than it was supposed to.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelNo, obviously Valve simply hacked the games to include this heinous piece of promotion, proving once again that Steam is worse than Hitler!!1!
Seriously though, it's not that intrusive, it's creative, some indie games enjoy a bit more exposure and customers have a good bargain. What's the problem here? They actually want to sell Portal 2, what else is new. Its Popular Now Itsucks?
I think that was mainly because they wanted people to help them sort of beta-test and refine it.
This.

Maybe its actually "ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS ARE EEEEEEEEEVILLLL AND PROVE THAT DEVELOPERS ARE SELL OUTS!!"?
I got a strange message while clearing bit.trip.beat test everytime I clear the level a message appears on the website which sounds like glados spouting out gibberish. I'll list them as I go along
- Doodles are the primary food of a retro gorilla
- avoid the obvious pun (this was in the link that was given to me)

Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.I know the developers agreed to it, but it still seems to be in bad taste, but that's just my personal opinion.
At some point I need to update my definition of "selling out", since it seems to have changed drastically since last I checked.
That, or people are using it way too often and it's lost all meaning.
Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.I'm pretty sure it's the latter.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Well, it's a gimmick to get people to buy things. The games are on "sale" anyway, so I don't see how it's a sellout unless you mean Valve has no right to entice people into buying things just so they can buy other things faster...
DumboTo think of all the time and effort being spent by marketers. I mean, how much more work could they have done to improve the game if those marketers were actually programmers who knew how to code, or beta testers, or if the game wasn't already locked in and being burned onto disks. I mean, if those guys were totally different people and this was a year ago they could have done more work on the game instead of trying to sell it. How short sighted could they be?
They're a business trying to sell their product. Please explain to me how this constitutes their heads being, "in the wrong place,"?
"Tyyr's a necessary evil. " SpiritI am so bad at Super Meat Boy...it'll be years before I finish it.
Dumbo^Do like I do when I'm having trouble with Test Drive Unlimited 2: hit the Restart button a lot.

Of course, I know Steam is owned by Valve, but is anyone else annoyed by the shameless advertising for Portal 2 within other Steam games?
Better question: Will this shameless advertising affect your decision on buying Portal 2?
