The Organization is an index, listing multiple different organisations, and has been so since it was started. Wouldn't it make more sense for it to be called Organisations?

I think it would be better if it was called The Index Organization, or Acme Index Incorporated or something like that. Not necessarily those, I'm just throwing out ideas, but Organizations by itself sounds kinda bland. (In my opinion, anyway.)

Yeah, The Organization sounds like it should be a trope.

[up]Right. Before clicking, I figured it was about The Syndicate or "The Outfit" - the corporate-style non-ethnic version of The Mafia seen in things like Richard Stark's "Parker" books.

There is now an alternative titles crowner for this trope here. Feel free to add titles as you wish.

Bump For Great Justice!

Incidentally, can I remove the Trope Pantheon page from the index? It really has nothing to do with, well, anything.

Yeah, The Organization sounds like it should be a trope.

Yeah, but it's already a work title.

Alright, so the page on The Organization was copied and pasted to Organization Index and The Organization was made a redirect for it. There is also now a note on the Renamed Tropes page about this change.

However, when looking through the wicks, I noticed that many if not most of them referred to a generic "organization" rather than to the index. I wonder if it might be a better idea to YKTTW an organization trope rather than keep having those examples link to Organization Index. Another possibility would be to make a supertrope about organizations and have an index attached to it. I am interested in hearing what other people think about those options though.

I really do think that we need a trope for what people were linking to the index for. The wiks should not go there.

Is "generic organization" really a trope?

A high-level supertrope, yes. Not quite on the top-level with The Hero and The Villain and Conflict but yes, it's a supertrope.

Xtifr,

I am not sure, but the wicks tended to use The Organization to mean the (often shadowy) organization that tends to be in control of a variety of actions within a work. From what I can tell, it can have either a positive or negative impact on the protagonists, but generally it is not out in the open and it has a considerable amount of power.

Your mileage may vary on whether or not that really a trope though.

[up]Ah, that one's definitely a trope! I'm also ok with the really broad supertrope; I just felt I had to ask. Carry on!
