I was always a fan of RP Gs where you could attack multiple times in a round. Anyone know any notable examples? (especially extreme ones like "attack 10 times")

Well, in Mario And Luigi Bowsers Inside Story Bowser's ultimate equipment is an item that allows two attacks per turn. The thing is, it's only obtained when Bowser hits level 40. Unless you do a lot of grinding, Bowser tends to only be in the late 20's or early 30's by the time you reach the end of the game. So by the time you get it you're more than overpowered for the final battle anyway, and Bowser has no Bonus Bosses to face.

You'd probably like some of the Shin Megami Tensei games. Digital Devil Saga and Nocturne in particular basically revolves around the number of attacks you get.

In Radiant Historia, if you change turn orders enough, you can have a single character string together quite a few attacks. With only a little tampering, you can get four attacks in a row, but it should be possible to do 9 or 10 with one character, though it'd be pretty impractical to do so.

In Legend Of Dragoon, you could chain together really long combo attacks late in the game. Does that count?

Oh, I forgot. It was a big part of the combat mechanics for Sands Of Destruction. You'd get anywhere from one to three attacks per turn per character, plus a bonus attack for every 10 hit combo.

Would non-turn-based RPGs be out of the question? Not that there are any that I can think of...

The closest thing to that would probably be Spam Attacks like Zeal in Diablo II: Select paladin, spec up Zeal, hold mouse down on target, WHAMWHAMWHAMWHAMWHAM…

There's also stuff like landing a single hit that causes several strikes. One example would be KHII Sephiroth's opening attack.

Arc Rise Fantasia revolves around this. It does it really well, too. If you can bear with terrible plot, characters, and voice acting, the mechanics of that game were great.

Not sure if the Valkyria Chronicles series counts as RP Gs, but deciding who to use your actions with is the basis to strategy in those.

That one Wizard of Oz game from Media.Vision let you spend your turns with whichever characters you wanted. It was named... Riz-Zoawd, that was it.

I'm sure you know Chrono Cross and Xenogears. I personally wouldn't include Legend of Dragoon, because those are specific strings you can't even vary in battle. You'd have to include, like, every game with timed hits for that. I would, however, include Legend of Legaia.

I guess you could count the Megaman Battle Network/Star Force series? You get to pick multiple chips per turn, even if it plays out as an action game.

That does remind me of another card based RPG, though. Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos Origins/II both let you string together a series of cards (in different ways, even!) Tri-Crescendo's later work Eternal Sonata, gave you a set amount of time to freely run about and attack per turn.

Wild ARMs 4, 5, and XF all have the intrude ability, instantly grants the user another two turns. It's completely broken in 4, because the character who gets it can nearly one shot everything at the cost of being incredibly slow, and the rest of the party can build up 3 or 4 uses of it before she gets a turn.

I... think Resonance of Fate does this? I couldn't actually understand the mechanics of that game, though.

Resonance Of Fate, I suppose, does, what with the hero actions. Other than hero actions, though, your turn ends upon attacking, and you can't switch back to that character until the other two move, if I recall correctly.

I am not sure what this means really...but...The Legend Of Legaia series involves entering a series of button presses to create combos. Some combos trigger arts which cause massive damage. The hit counter can go up very high as a result.

Valkyrie Profile also has a combo thing. Your characters are capable of multiple hits and if you get the meter up you can unleash stronger attacks. Do it right and you can have each character do one normal attack and one super fancy attack of doom. This drives the combo counter WAY UP. It looks pretty badass too.

In the Etrian Odyssey games, some classes can put points in skills that allow them to attack multiple times, but it's of the "do consecutive attacks to the same enemy via skills" camp.

If you push the A button in time with the music, Mother3 lets you string together combos.

2 words; Rapid Fire (yues, it's a lategame ability. It rounds out at double damage total without additional modifies, hitting 4 times per weapon equipped for half damage per hit (except on certain weapnos.)

Spellblade? Some of the modifies from THAT have taken out FF 5's first Bonus Boss in just 2 commands (the first being Spellblade, the second Rapid Fire.) Or 3 commands to do it in a single round (Quick)
