[up] Yes, but we were just talking about changing this part of the character. Why not going a step further in doing so?

[up] Well from what I recall the wizard derives the power from 6 arch-typical figures.

They just happen to be Gods or Demi-Gods considering the A stands for Achilles.

Recently he was disconnected from Earth's pantheon & had to rely on alien Gods as a different source of power. So there is basis for other beings giving him power especially as these alien Gods gave him different abilities from normal.

Why Amaterasu? She's not known for any bravery

Because I could only think of a handful of non-Hellenistic gods whose names start with A, because I had only one other goddess and wanted another one, because I was already using Asase Yaa for endurance, and because Amaterasu - while not so in original myth - is somewhat commonly depicted as a go-to goddess to cast as heroine in modern depictions.

Anansi. A good trickster has to be brave enough to pull tricks on people who could kick his butt. wild mass guess

Anansi is depicted as many things, but is rarely prized for his bravery (much to the opposite, even in stories where he is outright heroic he is generally depicted as doing so in ways that puts him at the least amount of risk) nor is he generally depicted as brimming over with endurance.

I immediately thought of Anansi for Wisdom, but thought against it as that would mean shifting the attributes around and I was trying to keep it as similar as possible. Plus "Wisdom of Siddharta" was perfect.

If we're analyzing the list, Mixcoatl doesn't quite fit for Speed either (he's known for being a quick shot who fires first in crisis, but there isn't a lot about him being physically fast as far as I can find).

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the writers of Spider-Man: Homecoming, are directing Flashpoint.

Interesting, WB sought out Ben Affleck to direct, but he declined.

Interesting that they tapped writers to do directing duty. I'm aware that screenwriting is pretty intrinsically tied to directing and generally the second most important aspect after it, but directing is more holistic.

They are in negotiations, it's not official yet. The idea seems strange because they have very little experience as a directing duo, certainly not like the Russo brothers who had a sizeable movie and tv directing resume. Robert Zemeckis was also rumored to be in negotiations like 6 months ago, which I think would be a smart move because it would force the studio to just let him make the movie.

Personally I think the script is more important than the director, but in this case, I am not even sure about the writing abilities of those guys. Have you seen how many writers Homecoming had? And I think they penned the first script, so whatever they did had to be improved by others.

There is nothing credited to those guys that says to me "yeah, those are untapped talents". But I guess, WB doesn't have a lot of options anyway. If I were a director I wouldn't touch that particular project. If I were established, I would be worried about my reputation and look at better options. If I were a rising star, I would be worried that this movie would sink my career before it even takes off. Only someone who doesn't have that many options to begin with or is overconfident would touch this.

[up][up]I never seriously thought they would actually land Zemeckis. With these guys I can see why. The cinematic version of the Flash is very similar to Spider-Man and Homecoming was extremely successful. Homecoming also (more or less) competently handled the lighter and more comedic elements of being a superhero, something that WB was obviously trying to achieve in Justice League to very mixed returns.

But why are Disney and Sony sending spies to destroy the DCEU within when Warner Bros is doing that just fine due to incompetence????? tongue

[up][up] But they didn't direct Homecoming and were only two out of six writers.

Not sure what that has to do with anything I just said.

KJMackley Since: Jan, 2001

The original plan for the DCEU was to find established directors with bold visions to make interesting and innovative movies. The premise is basically that there has been a habit of hiring young filmmakers who have found some success in lower budget movies, which worked in some cases but has increasingly become less about their vision and more that they are easier to manipulate and remove from power.

This is doubly true of these big franchise movies, it's hard to say how much of Fantastic Four was Josh Trank being unsuited for the task and how much was the studio choking him on every decision.

So having Zemeckis in the running was WB trying to show confidence in their properties, similar to bringing in David Ayer and James Wan as they both had success in mid-high budget action movies, but after Suicide Squad and Justice League they've gained a reputation of not knowing what they are trying to do and are looking lower for their directors.

Trailer for the blu-ray release. Contains the absolute briefest glimpse of a deleted scene, the scout ship doors open and Superman walks out extremely similar to him first putting on the costume in Man of Steel.

Next movie: Wonder Woman appears for five seconds to get killed and dissected by Brainiac. Still for some reason ends up on the front of the poster.
