This is sad. The only thing I have trouble deciding is who comes off looking worse - the police or the teachers. Otherwise...yeah, I'm irritated all around.

So, what? You'd rather the police physically restrain the kid?

The kid was freaking out, and was holding a weapon (albeit, a crude one). He was an immediate danger to anyone around him, and was probably not showing any signs of calming down. Pepper spray is justified.

Dude, the kid's now got badass and bad boy cred. When he hits high school he'll get more ass than a toilet seat.

[up] Kid had a pointy stick and was threatening enough to scare the teachers into barricading themselves and calling the cops. After the cops couldn't talk the kid down, they sprayed him with pepper spray.

"Officers say they couldn't calm Adan down, and get him to drop the stick so they say they pepper sprayed him, twice, to get him to do that, and then handcuffed him"

"His Mom says she's angry, said the police should've talked him down or waited for her to arrive"

I hate the implications that'll come from saying this, but if a police officer feels the honest to god need to pepper spray a child... twice, then It can probably be assumed they exhausted the "Talk them down" option.

And again, kid's gonna get a lot of pussy in high school.

It is funny that the kid admits more responsibility for his behaviour than his mother does. He at least acknowledges that he might have hurt someone, and that he "kind of deserved" it.

If we disagree, that much, at least, we have in common

Still seems a little over the top, though. I mean, it was an 8-year old kid with a pointy stick. How much trouble can a trained policeman have with an 8-year old kid?

Pointy sticks are pretty dangerous.

because as we all know, children near the age of 8 have never done anything overly vicious or harmful to other people.

Policemen are trained to deal unarmed with adults that use actual weapons. I showed this to my dad (a policeman himself), and while he is very, terribly sure that these people probably had a good reason, it does sound rather silly to him.

And you know what police use in those situations?

Pepper spray.

Well, if the kid charged at him fully intent on stabbing him with the sharp stick, it's not like you can expect the cop to patiently wait and shrug it off.

If you're old enough to charge at people with a makeshift spear, you're old enough to get sprayed.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

[up][up]What part of 'unarmed' don't you get?

I admit I don't know the full story*

, so I'm just going to assume that they did have a very good reason. The way it reached my ears, however, did sound rather odd.

For fucks sake, it's just pepper spray man. No permanent injuries or bruises even. His eyes got hurt, story over in my book.

~sigh~ We know pepper spray hurts like bitch, but as I said, nothing permanent. Sorry if I gave you the impression I was laughing at the child's pain.

Pepper spray can be shrugged off about just as easily as a rapid 8-year old with a make-shift spear can, I would think.

“Why didn’t they talk to him?” she said. Or, we wonder, remove the stick from his hand? How hard can it be to disarm an 8-year-old?

How hard is it to disarm an 8-year-old?

Let's find out. Mr. Owl, how many stabs will I get while trying to disarm Aidan?

1, 2, or 3?
