The game looks like something else. I had an opportunity to play it at PAX Prime a while back, and I've never played a 2D game that emulated the feel of Ninja Gaiden or Devil May cry so well before. I played the crap out of the first game after learning about this one, and came out of the deal with some nice blisters. Shit is seriously hard, and pretty frustrating too, but if reviewers are to be believed, Vampire Smile is a good sight easier. Time'll tell if that's a good thing. Totally behind this game.
Bought it. It's fucking crazy. I love it.
If you enjoyed the first game, you will love absolutely everything about the second one. It's a huge improvement.
Even on it's own, it's a fantastic game. Story still doesn't make any sense, but the gameplay makes it completely worth it.
Still Nintendo Hard.
Jonah FalconSo I torturously beat both Yuki and the Dishwasher's campaigns on Normal and Ninja difficulties respectively, and at this point, I'm basically just trying to pimp it to all my friends, but it's like pulling teeth getting people to even notice it. The title's probably really working against it.
The art style probably doesn't help, either, because at first glance it really does seem to match the common research failure that it's a emo/goth/Jhonen Vasquez angstfest, rather than the unrelentingly punk/eighties slasher aesthetic with a positively whacked out sense of humor that it really is.
Edit: Wow, jeez, that'll teach ME to post during sleepless delirium.

I played the demo and the gameplay was fun, but the storytelling, atmosphere, and just the overall aesthetic of the game was a huge turn off. It felt like a giant Johnen Vasquez wannabe and seemed like it was trying too hard. Like a bad Tim Burton film, it drowns in its own style.
You say it's not like that but the demo certainly supports the misconception one would get just looking at it. At least it's fun and plays well.
I picked up a demo for the first game and had some fun with it. I often go to the Arcade and download several demos for a quick laugh. I downloaded the demo for the sequel too and while just as much fun as I remember it being gameplay wise I fear its plot will be completely incomprehensible due to way too much symbolism and general insanity.
Johnen Vasquez wannabe? Really? Wow.
I didn't get that from the artsyle at all.
The story doesn't make too much sense, but the game doesn't take itself seriously enough for it to matter.
Funny you should mention that: my sister cued me in to this Twitter exchange the other day:
Jhonen V: Am I the ONLY person that looks at The Dishwasher and DOESN'T think it looks like my work? Did I win the patent for "bloody"?
Jamezila: @Jhonen V Hi, I made the Dishwasher; I also don't think it looks like your work! Uh... high five?
Jhonen V: Oh shit, @Jamezila, the game's creator just messaged me saying he wanted to wear my face on his face and become me. Fucked up, man...
At any rate, you really shouldn't worry about the plot becoming incomprehensible from symbolism; there's some remarkably mind screwy (and in my opinion very well done) fourth wall abuse and a callback spree that happens near the end of the game, but almost all of it is more or less easily explained away by some other plot device
That twitter exchange made me lol.
^^Yep, typical Jhonen right there.
Also I don't see how it could be compared to Jhonen's style either. o_0

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Been awhile since I've played a hack-and-slash title that flows so well like this one. It's definitely worth $10. Also, I liked the note about the Cloud Sword, that it is "not related to anything else, ever."
Anyone have an idea on how to get the "Bleep, Bloop" achievement?

I actually had to dig out the Red vs Blue video that's based on. I lost track of the series before then.
Rooster Teeth and Ska Studios... they understand.
Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.Sorry for the thread Necroing. Thought this would be a good place to say this.
The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile is now on sale on Xbox live for the rest of this week (Tuesday the deals switch, november 8th 2011 I beleive). It's down to 5 dollars / 400 MSP instead of the normal 10 dollars / 800 MSP.
Download the trial and take a look, I'm sure you'll like this game.
As for me, I picked it up the moment I saw it and I'm very much liking this purchase. It's one of those titles that are worth ten dollars, and definitely worth 5.
(By the way, is there a videogame/Xboxlive/PSN/Steam sales and deals thread to announce more of these things on?)

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.
Out tomorrow. Anyone picking up?
