Sure
The woman in armor is Amakara. Her people are highly xenophobic and neophobic. She is mildly xenophobic and neophobic. The entire civilization lives in the fortified city of Ikar, and, despite having been at peace for a very long time, the inhabitants still speak about every battle as if were a recent event, and children are trained in combat from an early age, though none of them every remember how to fight. History is also very important, with everyone being able to give the time since any historical event to the day (this is how time is indicated in the story). Amakara is not an exception to this. When she (unwillingly) leaves Ikar and arrives in Kyaren, a place where literally every manner of creature conceivable is present, she suddenly has almost everything she knows questioned, and she is not truly sure of anything until the end of the story.
The angel is named Gahiel. She has the appearance of a human without a head or legs, but with wings. The only thing constant about angels in this universe is that they have an appearance which somehow resembles one or more sentient creatures. She enjoys helping people, and spends most of her time helping newcomers to Kyaren understand the city's oddities (for example, walking down a street, turning around, and then walking back, will result in one being someplace other than where they started).
The demon is named Kylrii (i'm considering writing it as Kylri'i). Her appearance is "a serpent's tail which [she] slither[s] about on, the talons and wings of a bird, and the head and body of a lizard". The only thing constant about demons in this universe is that they resemble at least one non-sentient creature. Despite her rather intimidating appearance, she is easily scared by just about anything. To make things worse, she will rise back onto her tail when frightened, which makes it look like she's about to attack. Given her size, this tends to make whatever scared her run away, but in some cases gets her hurt.
The living shadow is named Anares. While his species does not have any real concept of sex or gender, he prefers to be referred to by masculine pronouns as a result of his past (which is a decent sized spoiler). He is a darkness elemental, which means he knows some manner of magic which relates to thought, space or time, in his case space. The elementals all live at a place called Syaaarta (Sya'a'arta?), where all six elements can be found in close proximity. He dislikes others knowing anything about him, and so actively spreads false information about himself, and also has a tendency to deceive people about his true nature, only revealing it rarely.
Rewrote my opening scene for the second time, but it'll probably be my last rewrite until I finish the whole project. I need to suppress my inner perfectionist when it comes to early drafts.
Right now I have 1,200 words. My heroine is a princess whose father the King dies in the opening scene, and she'll have a succession dispute with her younger half-brother.
My DeviantArt Domain My TumblrDear idiot writer (I know in real life):
While I'm sure you think saying this makes sense, I have to inform you that you are a stupid writer, and when I say " you should really let on what your character is thinking/feeling"
you might want to listen to me.
I have been writing a mute character for the past year, and have taken great pains to never show their thought process, yet still make their emotions clear and relatable.
I will shoot you in the face.

Read my stories! It seems like Earth's very existence is slowly working its way to becoming The Artifact for me. I might just shuffle a few characters around (notably change Iris and Felix's backstory to work somewhere else) and write it out completely; the fact that I can do that in of itself makes a good reason, I think.

Not nearly a good enough singer for the Choir Invisible, and the Basement Room With A Synth Invisible is much less prestigious. We're really good friends but lawdy he does not know how to write very well.
Read my stories!Save yourself some stress and don't bother trying to talk someone like that around. He'll learn his lesson from more dedicated people, or quit.
In other news: I might enter the short story I feel good about in another contest, if I finish it before a theme's decided on for the contest here. Of course that means no talking about it till 2013, but there's a cash prize.
I would if he didn't come to me for proof reading. Bah. -_-
Read my stories!Tell him to run it through a spellcheck on his own, then.
...what does spell checking have to do with this?
Read my stories! That's what proofreading is. Looking for typos, not plot-holes.
Oh. Then I meant the thing that's plot reading.
Read my stories!I have a friend I ask to plot read for me. The guy is always busy....with games....
At least he tells the truth about it.
http://ralanr.deviantart.com/ My Deviant art profile, A plea for attention, cause I am boredI had two or three beta readers months ago.
I feel sorry for them. I should have given them the entire story.
I am usually the go to person in my group because I'm an opinionated person. Fun for me.
Read my stories!Aaah. Already I regret entering Camp Na No Wri Mo. I don't want to write at all now. I just can't leave my precious internet alone.
Gave them our reactions, our explosions, all that was ours For graphs of passion and charts of stars...AHR: Ask him why he asked for "constructive criticism" if he won't take any of it. (Usually when someone does that, they're only looking for positive feedback.)
I'm probably just going to watch Young Justice all day today. The chances of me writing are slim.
It took me longer than I thought to compile today's articles for my weekly round-ups.
Now, Khan Academy or beta reading?
I'm determined to be productive for the next few weeks, and carry that habit into the school year.
What contest is it?
Has ADD, plays World of Tanks, thinks up crazy ideas like children making spaceships for Hitler. Occasionally writes them down.I am thinking of submitting something.
I'm hella nervous.
What are you nervous about?
Has ADD, plays World of Tanks, thinks up crazy ideas like children making spaceships for Hitler. Occasionally writes them down.I submitted a short story to Daily Science Fiction.
I think I'm going to go out and try to relax about my impending rejection.
Think of some of your favorite short stories or novels.
These authors had to deal with rejections too. Rejections come with the territory, so relax a bit — they may publish your story.
Has ADD, plays World of Tanks, thinks up crazy ideas like children making spaceships for Hitler. Occasionally writes them down.I'm pretty good at dealing with rejection when it comes to R Ping, at least. Then again, RP rejections tend to be rapidfire...
I know how you feel. Most of the time I don't send in my stuff because I'm afraid of rejection.
