Well, it's certainly nice to see this. Anyway, right now, I'm rereading Y The Last Man. It's a pretty cool comic and to this day, it still amazes me that it runs with such a simple premise and never falls to Fridge Logic...except when it's meant to do it.
It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.I still need to finish reading that. I need to finish reading a lot of things.
EDIT: Why do I get the feeling we'll be the only two posting here?

Underneath the bridge The tarp has sprung a leak And the animals I've trapped have all become my petsEh, I think that at the very least, Malk will. But yeah, I don't see this thread being a success with anybody else but us.
It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.I also read No Hero at the book store, as the avatar suggests. I thought it was fantastic, very twisted, gory, and it had an excellent double plot twist.
Underneath the bridge The tarp has sprung a leak And the animals I've trapped have all become my petsJust here to say that reading Scott Mc Cloud's books about comics changed my world. That guy is smart.
The last one I read was Incognegro, and that was a couple years ago. I really should find more.
I'm two volumes shy of being caught up with the Hellboy-verse TPB's.
I loaned my copy of Bookhunter to a friend last weekend. When I saw him yesterday, he could only tell me "That book is insane. The author knows way too much about the subject."

I recommend Bananarama, if you're looking for a Vertigo miniseries deal.
@Blackcat: No! Stay! We need to about Mc Cloud's awesomeness!...Tomorrow.
@Meta Four: I've been meaning to get into Hellboy for quite a while. Dunno why I've been postponing it. Is it as cool as people hype it up to be?
It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.GO FUCKING READ IT NOW. AONDEUG COMMANDS YOU, JUAN.
If you like fairy tales and mythology at all it will be like sex. In comic form.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahI don't know how much people are hyping it up to be, but it's great stuff. Mike Mignola's art in the first 7 volumes is gorgeous in a very understated way. The use of color to convey mood is spot-on. (Duncan Fegredo takes over art duties after volume 7, and he does a very good imitation of Mignola's style, but by that point I'm too hooked on the story itself to get bent out of shape over the art.) The story itself... I've felt in the past that the drawbacks far outweigh the benefits of maintaining a long-running continuity. Well, Hellboy convinced me that this kind continuity can work and be awesome. It works because it's all either written by Mignola himself, or overseen and approved by Mignola; he either has a very clear idea of where he wants the story to go, or he's doing a great job of faking it, because he's doing a great job so far of tying everything into the central Myth Arc.
Due to the mythological influences, a lot of the stories operate by fairy tale logic, which could be a bit off-putting, I suppose. Also, Hellboy himself is stoic enough that he sometimes comes across a bit flat (the relationships between HB and the other members of the BPRD are one of the few areas where I think the movies were better than the comics).
But, at the end of the day, I would not have bought over 20 trade paperbacks if I didn't think the series was bloody awesome.
When I see the topic title I think that I should answer «it's called a rebus» and be done.
instead I will remark that I should buy something of Jason Shiga's. Probably Meanwhile since I think the hypertext made me miss out, oddly.
[1] This facsimile operated in part by synAC.I really ought to buy that one as well. I hear he redid a lot of the art for the current print version.
I recently binged Ultimate Marvel. Except for the part where they switched to Ultimate Comics name, and I've only read have of that.
Fight smart, not fair.Scott Mcloud is a fucking genius. I've probably read Understanding Comics at least 10 times.
I really wish I had more money. This is such an expensive hobby.

Underneath the bridge The tarp has sprung a leak And the animals I've trapped have all become my petsYay another member of the Scott McCloud is a fucking genius club. I've used Understanding Comics to teach theater. I also like the other two books but that first one blew the back of my head off. And I have never finished Zot!. Go figure.
I read part of Making Comics in the bookstore, but chose to get it later and buy Cryptonomicon instead.

Underneath the bridge The tarp has sprung a leak And the animals I've trapped have all become my petsAnother McCloud fan. I got to meet him at a book signing, he's a very cool fellow.
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake!I had a chance to see him speak at Bowling Green in Ohio a couple of years ago and missed it.
Currently reading Cerebus. Kept up with it from about issue 48 to the middle of Jaka's Story (issue 130ish). Stuff happened between 1990 and 2010. Now I've picked it back up and got to issue 271. Yes, it's 2011 and I still haven't finished.
Apart from that, I gave up on comics. After hearing about the Clone Saga, I'm glad I did.
Under World. It rocks!Eh, don't read the superheroes ones until like...5 years after they come. Trust me, it's better that way.
It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.Only superhero comics I read are old ones that are painfully products of their times in some way or another, and likely to have been featured on Superdickery. I have an issue of Lois Lane from the 60s in which she becomes black, and a Jimmy Olson from the same era in which he somehow falls into a cult of evil hippies.
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake! That sounds hilarious.
Speaking of superheroes, I really want to read Knightfall.

If you love yerself, you won't. Although it's not bad, I think that it's just way too topical.

Or, the comics thread.
So, I started reading One Hundred Bullets again, and just picked up the first volume of DMZ. I still need to read the last two volumes of Transmetropolitan and the last three of Preacher.
