I've searched around the site and cannot find anything that resembles this one.

You've seen it happen all the time in anime.

A character has some sort of near-death experience and his soul starts to escape from his mouth. To put it simply, they're Giving Up The Ghost.

I'd appreciate it if anyone can add any examples you've seen of this from various anime or manga, as I'm having a hard time thinking up any off the top of my head other 4 examples.

Episode 8 of Fairy Tail has this for both Kage and Makarov. Also, episode 2 with Mira.

If you see it happen, add it to the YKTTW I linked to.

Fullmetal Alchemist. I think it was Winry who beat Ed so badly that it happened to him, and Al even Lampshades it.

Kanokon. The brother had that happen after being made to spend all night catching a large fish...

I added something about Negima.

Since this thread is already here I feel okay advertising this trope as well before giving it up for the moment.

[up][up] the Brotherhood example was the first one I have on the page. :)

I'm new to YKTTW, so I seem to keep missing the edit function. Sorry.

Put it in the Reply section. I'll add it later.

It's up. I threw in some picture links, but I couldn't find any screen caps of the giving up the ghost examples I mentioned, so I might take some and PM them to you later.

If you need to clean it up, do so as you see fit.

I added an example on the YTTKW. Hope that helps...

I think it would be a good screencap source, but we have a lot of options, so there might be something better out there.

I just launched Giving Up the Ghost and placed all it's examples onto the related series in the entries. This is by far the largest trope I've launched so far. (It's also my 3rd trope, but who's counting?)

That said, thank you all for helping with the entries, and I hope the rest of you will find more examples throughout anime and help expand the trope even further.

This worked out well. I was looking for some guidelines on offering a new trope but the first post in this thread makes mentioned of the inverse of what I wanted to suggest. I was reading the Justice League Unlimited examples in AsLongAsThereIsOneMan, and I saw the passage about Batman dodging the Omega beams. While that was certainly a CMOA, I was a bit surprised when I couldn't find a trope for "No one has ever X before!"

Many tropes have a little bit of this mixed in there, most of Did You Just Index Cthulhu? comes to mind, but nothing for "Nobody's ever done that before!"

Or I just chose the wrong words with which to tickle the search engine.
