[up]When you see Co D taking on more and more Sci Fi tropes, it certainly seems that way.

I actually think this game controls really well in first person. I wouldn't play all the way with it, but it's really nice, you know?

I try to avoid first person because I don't like looking at the horrible frankengun designs and thinking about how they work.

Why is the charging handle there?

I think we can all agree as to the history and general trends of the gaming industry, and the impact these have had on innovation because of how trend-setting certain games were. On the subject of Call of Duty in particular, the modern military shooter formula is a stale one and in a way I can appreciate the devs' desire to innovate and expand gameplay possibilities with the new futuristic setting, but I look at the preview footage for Blops3 and I can't help but roll my eyes.

Everything in it reminds me of some kind of toy designed with the sole purpose of looking as cool as possible. The vehicles look like some horrendous Fisher Price abomination you'd buy for your military-obsessed 12-year-old nephew.

I just wonder why every one decided to jump onto titanfall's bandwagon when it did not even do that well outside of Asia.

[up][up][up]oh, uh, no I don't think so. Sorry if I misled.

[up][up][up][up]Just blame Cipher or Skull Face or something. Fortunately, I know nothing about guns. I just know there is no greater feeling than reloading a revolver in the middle of battle.

[up]You know, it doesn't surprise me Titanfall was popular over there. I mean, Pacific Rim did way better in Asia, unless I'm mistaken. I'd play Titanfall, but I'm a Sony pony. Maybe the sequel.

Military FPS become popular mostly because US citizens regards their military, especially their grunts, very highly, I think. I mean, they put flags on their house if one of their family serve overseas.

Not so much in Asia. Especially in Japan.

Also, it doesn't look like it, but Fulton DD is practically God-send for non-lethal takedowns. Stun/ tranq one, send DD to fulton him while you stalk the next poor sap. Combine with STUN ARM and it become borderline Boring, but Practical.

So Titanfall was only really popular with us? I thought since Korea was making a variation of it it might have been with them too.

[up][up] Yea, the numbers really suprised me, shooters really don't normaly do that well back home, xbox titles even less so, yet some how, tianfall beat the odds and became a topseller.

I dont even know if it did that in the states.

Nah we just put flags everywhere. Everywhere.

My house has three of them. It's just something you kinda do.

So I have been taking a short break from MGS to play the Witcher 3 three a bit. But before I did I discovered a way to stay offline for now. The catch to being pushed back online is apparently it can only happen from your ACC. A quick look around showed a few people swears this works. It also allows you continue to develop your FOB in peace. I am going to hop on tonight and see if that is the case.

I figured I needed a good batch of time to do the missions for the upcoming "fun".

I'm pretty sure your stuff can be taken when you're offline.

If this works the way these guys thinks it does they can rob the digital online version blind but as long as you stay offline it will never update the FOB in your game. It is apparently an odd quirk of how connecting and not connecting online works. Like I said though I will do some tests to see if it does in fact keep you offline first.

I recall that trick working prior to the recent patch. And I think it would theoretically keep on working as long as you don't reconnect to the game's servers, but the moment you do you'd be screwed with a MASSIVE backlog of missing resources and kidnapped/KIA personnel.

You'd also have to figure out how to prevent the game from automatically connecting to the Konami servers, because the game seems to automatically do that upon booting up. Only way I can figure out right now to prevent that would be to disconnect your console from the internet. Not very convenient, that.

Oddly it doesn't seem to connect and update on log in like I thought it did. Keeping offline maybe really easy if it pans out like suggested. I will let you guys know after I get home in about 30-40 minutes.

Well that was odd. I didn't get to test it because when I loaded up MGS 5 it asked me if I wanted to agree to the online TOS I said no to everything and it started me in offline mode. I can still access and develop my FOB and no updates for it from online stuff.

I asked a couple folks what was going on. Someone suggested it was because I left myself sitting out in free roam in offline mode for a few days so it automatically queried me when i finally logged back in. Give it a try and see if that works.

Looks like I got another glitch. It let me develop an FOB thing then undid it saying it was in offline mode. Ahwell.

I mean, frankly, I'm personally just not invading anyone but Mosquito and trying to make my base defenses really good.

All that stuff you're doing seems like a lot more hassle than the FOB itself.

Mosquito isn't worth invading after you get the S+ members from raiding each of his platforms once. The returns in resources and GMP just aren't worth it vs what it's probably costing you to invade him each time.

I'm four minutes away from finishing development of my nuke. I played that entire 24 hour development time, except for an hour or so today when I went shopping and left my PS 3 on.

I was told there'd be a cutscene. Ah well, I guess it must have been a cut scene!

Unoun: I don't think you understand how much I hate being forced to play that bull crap and having some random asshole fuck with my single player game at any point even when I am not playing. We were supposedly going to have an option to opt out instead they screwed us harder for not playing their Online Pv P game to launch this micro-transaction garbage. Punishing players who try to opt out of it by holding hostage our resources we take time to gather is just disgustingly greedy and corrupt way to force us into their system to try and sell their insuranceextortion packages. If I could I would say screw it and get a refund, but because for some reason game companies are protected from such considerations I can't. So I am stuck with it so I might as well get what I can then trade it in for something less obnoxious and abusive against the players. Yes I am pissed about it because I am being forced to participate rather then doing so of my own choosing.

Actual game stuff. I just plowed through the initial parasite infection stuff. Code talker is a bit weird. Fighting the skulls kinda sucked because of that exploding stuff and swarm of enemies. However Quiet with that surprisingly silenced AMAT rifle was a nice change. Poor Quiet she got shot up by the Skull Sniper Team

I unlocked Quiet's BFG sniper weapon and was surprised to find it is silenced. I was expecting to hear thundering reports as heads were popped.

Then disconnect from 'net when you play. Or better, seal your Steam.

You can block Steam, can you?

And, wait. Sinful Butterfly is SILENCED?

Sinful is the anti-tank one right? No it is not silenced.

Also the announcements today is talking about server down time tonight to rebalance online vs offline distribution of resources.

I mean, I think the implementation of FO Bs is awful and Konami being Konami and #Fuc Konami.

At the same time, I distinctly remember there being a demo from years ago about how your main mother base could be invaded. By enemies in the field and by other players.

So. I think part of it is deliberate on Kojima's part?

The games themes include the cycle of revenge and the sensation of loss, and the way it lingers. The "phantom pain" of things taken from you.

And the FO Bs, in their own way, fit that perfectly.

Yes, they're risky, and yes, I imagine they'd be frustrating. And Konami has set them up to profit from them, and the fact that you can't manage them offline like was promised is inexcusable.

I mean, I genuinely think the forced PVP of things like Watch_Dogs is interesting, and, in an odd way, shows how progress in terms of hardware and infrastructure and technology as a whole can create interesting things for players.

I think it's novel and unusual, but.

The FOB mechanic itself isn't quite the problem for me. It's the fact that they're so consumed with microtransaction garbage.
