Ooooo. A sequel novel? I wonder if this will focus on Holo and Lawrence's children.

That's awesome! I don't know if we can hope for a third season, but it would certainly be nice.

It's been fun.

I've heard it said the author has a desire to make more, but the chances of renewal are slim to none, given how old it's gotten and a rather small fanbase.

[up]

It took close to a decade before we got the rest of Mushishi animated, and stuff like that doesn't happen a lot. There has to be both the intent for the author and the studio, with the latter willing to take the hit financially as it's likely going to be a prestige piece if the series wasn't particularly popular to begin with.

[up][up] There's also InuYasha: The Final Act and Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] which came out quite some time after not only the original anime but the movie that (poorly) adapted the same plot.

These are pretty nice news. I would be delighted if a sequel would bring back old fans and introduce new people to the story. I still don't expect another season for the anime, but I would love that.

Still, quite curious to see what that sequel is going to be about, but I hope it includes their daughter! Because I'm really curious about her personality and her interactions with her parents. Or did they have more children?

Someone abridged the first episode of the anime for Team Four Star's abridging contest. It's not terribly fantastic but the simple fact that it exists is enough to bring me joy. Some parts got a laugh out of me.

My copy of the second season came in the mail today. I got it really cheap in the post Christmas sales. Which was awesome timing considering I've been reading the light novels after really enjoying the anime.

I really adore how the first disc is covered in apples, and the second one just has a few apples left on it.

I already watched it subbed, but I'm glad the subs on the DVD uses Holo and not Horo. I'll watch it the second time dubbed once I'm done with the light novels.

I always knew that season one of Spice and Wolf had an amazing OP but it's nice to know why it's so amazing.

Both visually and musically it's one of the finest opening sequences in the last decade. It tells you all you need to know about the characters without a word.

Also, for what it's worth, those who don't want to get the dead tree editions, (space, shipping whatever) Yen Press is starting to release the novels in ebook format as well. First volume is out, second and third at the end of the month and the rest coming at an increased rate after that.

Helps that the translation is already done, they just need to typeset for the digital formats.

I've been strongly considering buying the Anniversary Edition of volumes 1-17 of Spice and Wolf, since I've read the first eight Yen Press translations and it ends up being a decent amount cheaper than me buying volumes 9-17 for $15 each.

I know there's the DWT translations. But I've heard they miss some of the subtlety in some scenes.

Has anyone else in this thread brought/read it? The main thing I'm worried about is paper quality and text size, considering each page of the book has two pages printed side by side.

It'd be nice if I could get the whole set for cheaper than it would cost to buy them individually, but it's still a very hefty purchase so I definitely wouldn't get it if others have had bad experiences with reading it.

I've bought and read up to volume 13 or so of the Yen Press translation, and I wasn't entirely impressed. It can be hard to tell sometimes whether a translation reads poorly because of lackluster translation or because the prose itself is kind of wooden, but in this case I think it was clearly the translation that suffered. I guess if you've already made it through the first eight books you know what I'm talking about, though.

It's been fun.

The last one I read was Town of Strife II and I have no idea what you're talking about.

EDIT: Going by the reviews, the font is a bit small but still perfectly legible and the book may be a tad bit damaged due to poor packaging but that's it.

Thanks for the help guys. smile

I also found this video in depth look Which might help anyone else who is interested in the book. It allayed my concerns over the paper quality, which I've had issues with before in Omnibuses, and it shows the font size for anyone else who wants to see it close up.

Annoyingly my preferred retailer went out of stock while I was deciding. But there's another one I can get which is pretty much the same price. Although sans the hand numbering.

I need this in my life.

Sadly, I do not have the money for it and, by the time I did, it'd definitely be sold out forever.

I hate my life.

Well bit the bullet and ordered it.

I was going to wait a little bit longer to decide fully, but since one retailer ran out of stock I wasn't planning on pushing my luck.

Plus a large portion of the purchase came form some money I recently got as a gift.

Release date for this retailer is in 6 days. So I should have my copy in just over a week. grin

I think I'll reread the series from volume 5 to the end, I stopped just before the last three books. Just got a little burnt out near the very end after reading for a straight weak.

Huskins is one of my all time favorite characters of the week.

Well, my copy of the Anniversary edition was meant to ship last Tuesday. But after a week of no reply from the retailer I ordered it from, I found out there's been a delay in the publisher shipment.

I was looking into canceling my order and buying it from Amazon Canada, since their prices are very reasonable, even with the massive shipping fee to Australia, but it'll take >6 weeks to ship, unless I wanted to pay a ridiculous amount of money for faster shipping.

So I think I'll just wait it out instead.

A bit of a bummer, since I really wanted to keep reading. But there's really nothing I can do unless somewhere else gets stock near me at a reasonable price before my store ships my order.

I reiterate: When you get your copy, be sure to give us all the details on the wedding and epilogue. All I know is that it happens, they start an inn/store called Spice & Wolf, and they have a child.

And I definitely will.

Also I should probably leave a link for anyone else who lives closer to Canada than me. The Anniversary Edition is very cheap considering the Canadian dollar.

And more importantly, in stock.

Holy f*cking shit, I didn't know about the anniversary collection, and now the only online retailer that will ship to the Netherlands sells it for 240 euros.

....I'm still tempted, but I'm supposed to be an adult that pays rent.
