...Why bring back Dark Raiden? Wasn't he universally hated?

Raiden is fine as he is now.

You guys are gonna be so bummed when the next two MK games are Mortal Kombat x Soul Calibur and Soul Calibur x Mortal Kombat, and the storyline doesn't get continued until 2017.

Here's a thought: if Sub-Zero was beaten by Sonya, and it's a single elimination tournament, why was he still hanging around to fight Scorpion?

^^ Because the series is going deep into grimdark territory where it belongs and having Earthrealm's protector god turn into a Dark Messiah is uber grimdark.

Also I though Dark Raiden was awesome.

Mortal Kombat X Soulcalibur is a game I would kill to see happen.

I thought Dark Raiden was a good idea, and simultaneously realized Raiden, no matter how awesome or powerful he is, is an idiot. This is not a new thing, nor a flaw of the series - it's a character thing. It's just plain fact. The guy's a moron.

The other day I was playing MK with my friends, and some of my other friends had brought another tv and were playing SC right next to each other. I looked back and forth and thought "wow, these are two games that'd go awesome together."

I mean, that's a crossover that might actually make sense, even if it would necessarily involve dimensional travel, which is still a staple of MK in the first place. Both series have had heavy uses of weapons (ever character, at least, has one in MK), a healthy dose of Gameplay and Story Segregation, and a very large amount of characters who could work well in the others' setting/story.

And I would kill to see Shao Kahn wielding Soul Edge, or Kenshi vs Yoshimitsu, or Voldo perform what will necessarily be the most squickily awesome fatality in history.

Hell, some of the characters got moves that were already fatalities with Critical Finishes (though some of them don't look particularly deadly). Two fatalities for Yoshi? His critical finish and the seppuku move. Awesome, yup.

[up][up][up][up]That really bugs me too. Maybe it was because it was a direct challenge from Scorpion, or maybe it wasn't even for the tournament, and he accepted because of pride.

Thats probably it. Something tells me refusing to fight a dead ninja who you murdered, and is convinced that you also killed his wife and child probably isn't an option.

[up]and the rest of his friends and family hell he thinks Sub and his clan killed every one in his clan

Honestly Scorpion needs to think if his clan and the Lin Kuei (fun fact Lin Kuei means Forrest Demons) were rivals they how could the Lin Kuei just destory his clan in one night if they were evenly matched for the most part.

I can't figure the whole elder Sub-Zero / Scorpion thing out so somebody please explain this to me in small words...

1) How did Quan Chi manage to kill a whole clan? Were the Lin Kuei involved at all? Did Sub-Zero want him to kill Scorpion's whole clan, or did he just do it for kicks?

2) Who was the guy who looked like Sub-Zero in the vision that Quan Chi showed to Scorpion? Just an illusion of something that never happened? But Subby says something like "that's not me", which makes it sound like somebody else actually dressed up like him and killed Scorpion's family...

3) Did Scorpion really get 'murdered'? I got the impression that he lost a fair fight, and if it had gone the other way, he'd have done the same to Sub-Zero.

4) Don't things get a bit awkward with both Noob and Scorpion working for the same employer? Really the whole 'it was really Quan Chi' wrinkle makes Scorpion out to be a massive dumbass, seems like.

My take?

1) An army of undead? Making them appear as Lin Kuei wouldn't be difficult.

2) There are a couple hints, such as the fact the guy uses a normal sword rather than a Kori Blade, but I imagine it wouldn't be that hard for a guy like Quan Chi

3) Yes, he lost a fair fight, but I get the feeling he believes he wouldn't do the same, whether he's deceiving himself or otherwise.

4) I can't remember where it is, but something to do with Noob's powers changing may hint he's not quite Elder Sub-Zero anymore.

Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.

1. Remember that bit in story mode where Shang Tsung opens a portal to outworld and loads of Tarkatans start wrecking everybody's shit? Imagine that except the portal leads to Mortal Kombat hell, the Tarkatans are skeletons and zombies, Quan Chi is personally killing people himself, and Raiden isn't around to stop it. As for why, it's explained in Mythologies that Quan Chi contracted both clans to retrieve Shinnok's medallion and promised the destruction of their rivals as payment.

2. Quan Chi most likely. Interestingly, the guy shown in the vision is Kuai Liang (younger Sub-Zero), which I attribute to an art department fuck up.

3. It was a fair fight which Sub-Zero won, and being magnanimous in victory decided to shw respect for his adversary by.... straight up killing him dead. Yeah, killing is murder when done in cold blood. And you'd be pissed off at the guy who killed you anyway.

4. Both are under Quan Chi's control, so I guess he keeps them in line. Obviously Scorpion doesn't know who Noob once was, or I imagine he'd have a few questions for Quan Chi.

[up]remember how Quan Chi told Scorpion in Mk 4 that sub zero the younger killed his family and not sub zero the elder I assume he made it look like Kuai liang for uses later so that if he wants Sub to go after him he can use the vision to trick him

If I remember correctly, both Scorpion and Sub-zero were hired to do the same job (get a map to a temple that housed Shinnok's amulet). Both get there at the same time, fight, and it ends with Alive!Scorpion getting his head ripped off. What's odd is that he was begging for mercy too. Also, Scorpion was pretty satisfied with simply running away and taunting Sub-Zero at first. The only reason it seems they fought was because they were both in the map room...

EDIT:Well, that was horribly slow of me. Got ninja'd by 10 minutes...

^^ Good point, Hadn't considered that.

Remember, Scorpion is blinded by his rage and hatred for whoever killed his clan. It isn't hard to manipulate somebody who is seriously pissed off, especially if you tell them 'thats the guy who did it'.

Hm, this is an interesting conversation(first 30 seconds of the video):

Which apparently doesn't happen if you didn't kill Scorpion back in level 1... So, I'm guessing Scorpion is also pissed of at his death because he thought that he could have protected his family were he still alive...

Ugh, I miss the old, un-retconned storyline. MK 1 implied that Scorpion's family was still alive, and I figured when it said he got murdered, he got MURDERED, he didn't just lose a fight to the death that he willingly participated in. The way they've got it now, Scorpion seems partly like a crybaby and partly like a moron.

You'd think people in the M Kverse wouldn't get so touchy about getting killed, since all it seems to do it cause you to become cooler.

Meh, I don't think Scorpion is so griped over his own death, I think he barely cares about that. The whole revenge thing comes from the murder of his family.

Well, I wouldn't say he doesn't care about it. Sure the murder of his family and clan pissed him off more, but he's pissed at Sub-Zero for killing him too. I mean wouldnt you be?

Now he cant decorate cakes anymore :(

Noob was stripped of his humanity when he died, so now he doesnt have a pesky conscience telling him not to be an evil dick. Plus he looks way cooler. Besides, he has his own shadow clone to do the jobs he's too lazy to do.

Noob seems like the kind of guy who'd think "Well, crap. So I'm dead... but now I've got ungodly power, can't be destroyed, and I'm allied with a guy who needs a lot of people dead, and doesn't care if there's collateral damage. Heh. Ahah. AhahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... (etc)"

I'd call it With Great Power Comes Great Insanity if the implication wasn't that he was always that much of a monstrous prick, and the power just gave him the means to be all he could be.
