The man has practically condemned himself to death, with what he did. Sure, technically it's only incarceration, but given how people who do anything to children are generally not favorites on the prison hierarchy, I would not be surprised if he ended up stabbed in the prison yard, suspiciously at the moment when no guard could see who exactly did it.

People seem to exxagerate that - people sure love going "lol all child molesters get shanked in jail". Depending on the prison they get the light security detail, get segregated with other 'sex offenders' and general targets (LGBT peopl etc) and whatnot.

EDIT: he probably basically spent YEARS on those sites and was obsessive and went for so-called "easy pickings" on internet sites. That's how he did it. Sheer numbers.

EDIT 2:

avatar: The Stupid Exclamation Mark Don't be a Dick Wolf Regarding using "whores" to describe the sorry excuses for mothers that the guy manipulated, it is not all that wrong, since the guy essentially pimped the mothers to their kids.

I bet if these mothers heard that opium use to be used to get children to sit down and shut up they'd probably try it.

Some people just are very gullible and very stupid. And if you troll for it in the right places on the Internet, and are a slick manipulator, you can get all kinds of things. How do you think con-men operate?

People still fall for Nigerian email scams. There are some stupid and desperate people online, and if you know the right buttons to press, they can be taken advantage of. Not often as badly as in this, case, admittedly.

[up][up][up][up][up] Actually, I would not be surprised if that happened. If you're not informed on the reality of opium, are into alternative medicine treatments (including those that claim to be "what the medical fat cats don't want you to know about") AND have heard something about "medicinal marijuana", you very well could be convinced into giving your kids opium.

Sadly, any predator or scam artist with sufficient time and patience, can eventually track down someone with enough ignorance and emotional vulnerability to convince them to do just about anything.

Which is why I hope that his plea bargain doesn't result in an ultra light sentence that just opens up future predators to try the same thing. Because thinking from a predator's perspective, finding a bunch of victims who you can conveniently turn into offenders and then testify against to lighten your own sentence assuming you even get caught, sounds like a sweet deal. (note: I have no idea if that's the nature of his plea bargain, but it seems like a possibility).

Woah woah woah, what's with all the defending of the idiotic mothers from the term of "whores"? Yeah, they didn't receive money, but the article indicated that some of them did it to be able to get the approval of/flirt with/date the guy. Doing sexual acts not out of own desire but for some sort of compensation is not that far off from calling those idiots "whores."

I do think that, if the genders were reversed, they would have a harder time duping men into doing this with their children.

Not because men are less gullible, but because the "all men are potential sexual predators" meme is so prevalent in today's society that men by necessity are more aware of what could be looked at as sexual impropriety. (After all, we live in a world where a father can be brought up for child porn charges for taking pictures of his daughter in her bathing suit while the family is at the beach.)

I think this is a case where that meme was especially harmful to women, as they obviously didn't see what they were doing as what it was... the acts of a sexual predator.

Stuff like this is exactly why I wouldn't mind requiring a license to breed. I know it'd never work, but it's a nice thought.

And needing a certificate to have kids is a bad idea in so many ways, let's not even begin on that topic.

Regarding the women:

I think that all the epithets directed at them are a bit harsh I mean there could be reasons that they didn't think they were doing harm:

He was picking vulnerable targets, all of them were single mothers (which is hard), as this is in America I'd say that genuine child psychologist services would cost, so they may have been desperate enough to maybe ignore anything that felt "off" to them.

I'd also say a fair bit of stupidity on the women's part as well, but I doubt they meant their children harm.

The guy however, is clearly intentionally in the wrong.

By the powers invested in me by tabloid-reading imbeciles, I pronounce you guilty of paedophilia!

I'm a little concerned with a lack of clear detail on exactly which sexual molestation acts were committed. It's all left to the imagination, implied rather than stated.

And, yeah, I realize putting in more explicit descriptions may be something a publication like this can't or shouldn't do. And I realize it would be pretty crass.

But I'm cautious about this because I know it's easy to lump together behavior that is utterly abhorrent with behavior that is borderline or even okay, but happens to be labeled "wrong" by our laws. So while I'm pretty sure this guy's getting what he deserves, I'm not 100% sure, and that bugs me a little.

Some examples of how these things get lumped together:

  • "He's a sex offender!" Guy sleeps with girlfriend at age X, fine. A month later, he's branded a sex offender because he crossed the age barrier and she's still underneath it. He'll carry that label for life and it will strongly affect many areas of his life, such as work prospects, housing, and the legal right to be around certain children.
  • "He's a sex offender!" Guy sells X-rated comic books. Without even proving that he ever sold one to a child, the legal system railroads him through a trial of giving this stuff to minors (because it's clearly a medium intended purely for children) and convicts him. Now he's not allowed to be around kids and has to submit to government searches any time day or night to see if he's possibly creating more X-rated comic books in the privacy of his own home.
  • "He's a child-beater!" Spanking debate: Lots of people lump "spank" in with "whip" and "beat" and soon you've got people saying "so-and-so beat his kids" when it's patently untrue and he merely spanked them. (At least one key difference: Spanking isn't supposed to leave any long-term injury, even bruising.)
  • "He's a child-abuser!" Personal/family experience: After dealing with CPS for several years, we've learned that they use terms the way no human ever used them in the history of language. Wish I could recall a good example for you. The generic "abuse" covers way more ground than it should, too.

So... yeah, I don't really doubt the guy's guilty, but I dislike blanket terms that obscure the true meaning.
