For the Lulz is a redirect for It Amused Me. I'm not sure how this trope differs from that one.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickIt looks like it shakes out like this:
For the Evulz: A character does something just for the fun of being evil.
It Amused Me: A character does something bad or naughty because they find it funny.
For the Funnyz: A character does something - something that isn't bad or evil in and of itself, but is not appropriate in the moment - because they find it funny.
As far as the rename - It's not my favorite trope name, but it is an accurate name for the trope. Is there any misuse?

Interestingly, it already had an Alternate Titles Crowner back when it was in YKTTW, which For the Funnyz did not win.
We don't need to worry about misuse here because the trope has so few wicks and inbounds, it's basically fresh out of YKTTW. We pretty much have a blank check to rename if we need to.

Rhymes with "Protracted."It doesn't necessarily have to be funny to fit It Amused Me, they could just enjoy the thrill of the chase. I'm okay with a rename, mostly because of the spelling, but I'm not picky.
Fight smart, not fair.Bumping this, again drawing attention to the pre-existing crowner. Noting that the trope is currently at 20 wicks 22 inbounds.

Rhymes with "Protracted."Why isn't this called Had To Say It?
Australia The country with a 2 party system But all the power with independentsThat is a good question.
I think that's actually something else, but I can't remember what.
Fight smart, not fair."Had To Say It" seems like a good name.
I wouldn't be posting at this forum if I didn't think it a necessary step.Definitely not. Those tropes are among the most messed-up snowclones we have (wasn't there a TRS thread about them, in fact)?
Thirding Had To Say It.
For the Lulz and maybe merge with It Amused Me as it's not perectly clear
"Take your (...) hippy dream world, I'll take reality and earning my happiness with my own efforts" - BarkeyWhy oh why? I Needed A Laugh? No that would be too simple, we had to resort to Xtreme Kool Letterz and a Snow Clone

Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackHad To Say It sounds more like Obligatory Joke
Bump.
I like For the Lulz the better, plus it's a pre-existing term to define this. If not, then I Needed A Laugh would be, and I agree with Mswordx24, I Had To Say It sounds like an Obligatory Joke.
Yep, I'd have to say For the Lulz. Simple, and to the point.
I'd associate For the Lulz more with trolling than just cracking inappropriate jokes, so I think it's more appropriate as a redirect for It Amused Me than as a name for this trope.
It more or less is trolling, though: a character who does dickish things for his own amusement is usually trolling to some degree.

My reading is that this trope is when you're saying something funny in spite of it probably causing offence, whereas trolling is when you're saying something with the intention of causing offence
The phrasing as-is has no reason to be spelled with a Z, and it mentions For the Evulz as an influence. And As You Know, For the Evulz is a pun on a common internet phrase. For the Lulz would be a simple enough choice, but if anyone has a better suggestion, I'm all ears.
