I don't really mind the new art myself.
One Strip! One Strip!Like, I don't mind ALL of it. Marco's an improvement and I'm adjusting to Stocke since it's actually pretty close to the original. Eruca bugs the heck out of me since she's got a military-esque look in the original that her new art ditches entirely. Raynie REALLY bugs me for reasons that I can't put into words very well.
Seeing the characters in motion was an improvement. As long as the game's tone is consistent with the original I expect I'll be fine.
Man, this remake looks pretty good. CG's added to certain story events, added voice acting, and slightly more polished graphics.
Can't wait for this to come over.
At least it's not as jarring as when Rena from Star Ocean 2 went from this◊ (full body◊) to this◊. Her overworld sprite stayed the same, too.

The Protomen enhanced my life. That is super jarring. I think Eruca is a bigger change though.
Watching the trailer again I noticed that Atlus Japan spelled Stocke's name with the "e". That's interesting, because I recall the original Japanese romanization spelled his name as "Stock".
I'm not too fussed about the new art to be honest. Erica's the only one with significant design changes. Stocke, Raynie, Marco, Gafka, Aht, Rosch, Viola, and Sonia all look the same to me, just filtered through a different art style. Heiss's nose being a bit less protuberant is the only other change I see from the characters shown.
I really hope they fix Selvan and Dias being The Unfought this time around.
I imagine "Stocke" was chosen because it looks more like a proper name to a Weatern audience.
I have a message from another time...Yeah, it's an English name. Mostly a surname, I think. Anyway, the surprising thing is that the Japanese branch adopted the American branch's translated name. I frankly expected them to stick with their own romanization.
A side note, I watched the trailer a second time, with sound this time. I do not like the new main theme. Way too jpop.
Ugh...looking at Raynie and Sonja side-by-side, they look exactly the same. The new portraits got hit with Only Six Faces hard. This horrid generic cutesy artstyle is stale. And there's a CG of Eruca◊ with a Cleavage Window...clearly she was too modest. They did change her sprite to include long hair, at least.
Reading up on the official site, Nemesia appears in Stocke's way requesting his assistance in order to find an "Artifact" she's looking for. She is to the Sub-History what Rosch was to the Alternate History and Eruca to the Standard one. And she's voiced by Rose.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOh god they did change her sprite. Auuuugh.
One more detail I noticed during the trailer: there's some kind of SHIP with halos around it. Is Nemesia time traveling using it?
I heard that some DLC pack for the 3DS version will include the ability to swap to the visuals of the DS version, aside from the new character(s).

I have a message from another time...The Japanese collector's edition has it as DLC, yeah. Pretty sure that means it'll be available later for purchase. sigh
For every two things I like about the remake there's one that really bugs me. Ah well.
Hype plummeting,
Ah, well. I did 100% the original anyway.
I'll probably still end up getting it. The concept is still great and the extra content seems interesting enough. I'm irked that they're changing a perfectly good aesthetic for what seems like no reason.
Actually, something odd: why no news about gameplay changes?

The ship features prominently on Nemesia's artwork on the official site. Apparently that's where she gives Stocke her requests, but not much to say beyond that.
Also, apparently, Eruca was supposed to have long hair in the original game and would later cut it off in an Important Haircut moment. But it didn't really work out, so the designer just gave her short hair to make her look brave. Maybe she will actually cut her hair in this version...? The reason for the vast difference is that they hired a new character designer.
The only gameplay change I've heard so far is that they've added difficulty modes, which apparently also affects how you interact with enemies on the map. Also you can pick whether to play all 3 histories together, or do the Sub-History after the other two histories finish.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOh, I didn't know about Eruca's hair. Some reason to be hopeful, maybe. And the new character designer was pretty obvious.
Being able to choose how the Sub-History works around the main plot is actually super interesting. Wonder if there's any story justification for having the Sub-History at the end? Like, does Nemesia end up inserting herself into Standard and Alternate events, or do things play out entirely separately?
I'm going to guess that the Sub-History is going to be a sequel in disguise like the Triangulum Arc in Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker was. Maybe the cast will finally find a way to stop the desertification, since they basically just kicked the can down the road if I remember the original ending correctly.
Could be, but I think actually overcoming the desertification is beyond the scope of the game. It's caused by the mana imbalance/Flux, right? They need conut seed bombs, not dashing time traveling assassins.
I can see Stocke and Nemesia laying more foundations for overcoming the desertification by.... iunno, straightening mana passages with technobabble, or something. Isn't it more likely that Stocke will be filling in story gaps, like Dias and Selvan and saving the troops, though?
Huh... didn't know a remake was coming. Neat.
One thing I'm hoping for is that some of the darker Non-Standard Game Over endings get a bit more detail - in particular, I'm hoping for more expansion on the one where Marco snaps and basically solos everyone else. That one always fascinated me.
I'm hopeful for a US release - the original is frequently cited as one of the most sought DS titles in the US, particularly amongst collectors.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I hope this gets a European release this time. Wasn't an issue last time because the DS wasn't region locked but the 3DS is. Bought it in an import store last time, loved it, need to play it again, and I really want the new version.
So I was looking at the Radiant Historia wiki and... it turns out that the Sub-History might REALLY be about stopping the desertification. 'ware spoilers newcomers, seriously. EDIT: The wiki's information is incorrect, the following is all FANON. I apologize for any confusion. Spoiler warning still applies.
I always thought that the White Chronicle and Black Chronicle were completely identical, but they're different—the Black Book of Flux lets its user channel huge amounts of Mana, and overusing it turned its original wielder into the monster that's CAUSING desertification. Said monster is sealed away, but it's still draining Mana, and the Ritual exists to reinforce its seal. But if you kill the monster, the desertification stops, and there's no need for a sacrifice.
Is it still so rare? I remember it got a reprint a few years back. But yeah, Atlus needs to make sure it reaches the US and Europe both.

I'm super looking forward to a third timeline and all the delightful ways I can accidentally kill everyone in it.
...but I better be able to get optional original portraits. I've been trying to accept this newer, more moe Eruca, but I'm having a hard time. I don't get why she needed a fan-service pack.
i. hear. a. sound.Huh, that's... different than what the original game implied about how to stop it XD

The Protomen enhanced my life.
That's been confirmed actually, there'll be... sigh DLC that lets you switch to the original character art. There's no equivalent for new characters though, so Nemesia stays with her sole look.
I'm really not okay with the changes to Raynie, but I'm quite happy that the chibi portraits at least have facial expressions.
