@Afro Warrior DAMMIT! I wasn't paying much attention. I knew that Sonic had a lot of alternate universes that split the fanbase up, so I kinda just took what FOFD said as fact. I assumed he just got the list from some reliable source, really should watch that.
Yeah, they never specified old Sonic being on Mobius. That was only in Sonic Spinball. [1] Apparently the newer Sonic games don't even specify it as Earth either.
Anyway, did anyone ever know this game existed? Because I didn't.
Ripoff of Temple Run huh? Nice move Sega.

Even with these awkward wings, dyed with images that seem to stay. I'm sure we can fly, on my love! 3DS Friend Code: 2809-9138-8756Mobius is Western manuals only...which leaked into the 90's 3 cartoons and got dropped as soon as Sa1 happened.
It was always Earth in Japan manuals, but now-a-days they avoid saying the name of the planet for no real reason. Even though its obviously still Earth.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.The alternate universes is another thing that splits the fans up. But the Games are all in the same canon despite the various play styles (that what split the fans up mostly...), and the characters design changes from Genesis to Dreamcast/Modern.
The only exception is Sonic Boom and maybe Sonic Spinball. But Boom for sure is it's own canon.
This is just for clarification.

Although, it could be possible due to the sentient, talking animals, floating islands, magic emeralds, and giant Eldritch Abominations that fans consider it a different planet from Earth.

I know people love taking a rip at Sega/Sonic Team but...
Sir, it's just a harmless little mini game.
You just said what I said in a direct yet more confusing way.
It should still be Mobius in the Comics.

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Well, what I mean is that Earth in the Sonic games is a lot different from our Earth. So fans call it Sonic's Earth.
Not sure if that was what you meant also.
Even with these awkward wings, dyed with images that seem to stay. I'm sure we can fly, on my love! 3DS Friend Code: 2809-9138-8756Could have sworn I read a mandate saying that they couldn't use Mobius.
Might've been something, I 'unno.
They've been using that name for over 200 issues of comics, I don't see a reason to not let them use it anymore.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.It might have been changed during the reboot in issue 250.

I'm still amazed how many people seem to care so much about the stories of Sonic games. I care to a point, I guess, but I care far more about the gameplay. In a game series like Sonic, the story is only there to support the gameplay, to enhance it (if done well). If the story is bad, that shouldn't matter much as long as the game plays well.
A good story and good writing helps, yeah, but they aren't the game. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but most people tend to play video games because they want to play a game and have fun, right? Unless they're playing a visual novel, they're probably not playing for the story. Doesn't mean they can't enjoy it or get something out of it, but the purpose of playing a video game is generally first and foremost to play a video game.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. That sorta depend on what game you're talking about though. For example, the Paper Mario have Story as a main factor for those games. Sticker Star failed, because it ignored what makes a Paper Mario game a Paper Mario game which is story. Given the fact that the previous Paper Mario had great story & characters, sticker star giving every characters flat personalty and running on an Excuse Plot is giant middle finger to the fans.
I'd say fans have a right to be mad, because when they play Paper Mario they expect great story & characters, Sticker Star failed at both.
As for Sonic though, I agree that I never really expect story to be a main factor out of Sonic, probably because it's obvious that isn't there main focus to the games now a days.

I know I've said this before but thank you.
On my wave, passing oooooooonAs far as fangames go, I'm surprised we don't have a procedurally generated Sonic The Roguelike.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Honestly, I wouldn't mind at all if Sonic just... stopped having a story entirely. I know I talk about it a lot, but I guess I prefer the way things are now because there's not much story TO the newer games besides the bare minimum. And you know, I'm OK with that. It just feels like every time Sonic DOES have a story, it just generally gets in the way. Like, I'm perfectly OK with the way things are now because the story is never intrusive, or gets in the way of the actual game.
...Remind me, did Unleashed have unskippable cutscenes? My memory says it did, and I think that's why I'm starting to appreciate the post-Unleashed games so much more.

"Great Scott! Send in the Doomsday Squad!"Why don't we do what Sonic 3 & Knuckles did? That had sort've cutscenes, but you still had full control of Sonic. That, if not handled absolutely poorly, could add a plot to the games without interrupting gameplay with those static cutscenes.
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniDidn't one of the Sonic 4 Episodes do that?
Nah, those were still cutscenes. Although the first cutscene in #2 lead directly into the game, so there's that.
EDIT: Context for those landing on this pagetopper is the story in Sonic games, with this post being specifically about Sonic 4: Episode 2.

I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniAs someone who has been with the series for a while, I find it kind of sad that Sega can make all of these interesting characters and lore, but absolutely refuse to do anything with it.
I mean what was the point of introducing all of this crap if they were just going to say "fuck it" eventually. That's why I still sort of care, because I pride characterization and world building as much as I do gameplay and it really irks the shit out of me that people seem to see this series as trying to have any kind of depth as "trying too hard" or "Furry drama"
I know this series is kind of the bottom of the barrel when it comes to writing, but goddamn, I at least like to think we can do better than what came before, or what we even have now.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. That's pretty much how I feel about it, although I can get why some people find a "serious" Sonic story to be narmy, especially since the official attempts by SEGA and Sonic Team have been largely miss or hit.
However, I tend to give a game's storyline more clout (especially if the game seems like it's trying to make the storyline appear to be something that the developers genuinely want you to consider when thinking about their game) than the apparent majority of gamers, so story has always been somewhat important to me, depending on the game.
This kind of reminds of the problems I've had talking to people about Mega Man Classic, especially concerning 9 and 10.
