General Sonic The Hedgehog thread

I think my problem I was having with Chip was that he wasn't original. But, now that I think about it, not many Sonic characters are.

I didn't mind the wisps, like wehrmatch said they really were just animals to save, and a pretty cool power up. I thought they were cute, and I felt sorry for them. I guess you could find Yakker annoying, but was he really annoying over,

"CHEESE GET EM!!!!"

"FROGGY COOOME BACK!!!!"

"IT'S NO USE!!!! TAKE THIS!!!!!!!"

I do like Blaze and Gamma better though, I'll agree with that.

I haven't been keeping up, but what's the general consensus on how Sonic Boom is looking?

Hmm. Reviewing the plot synopsis, maybe you're right. I remember it feeling very disjointed and not caring about her much. I remember thinking that she was a one-off character who wasn't that important.

Love the fresh take on Sonic's universe, or hate the redesigns and the crummy writing. I might give it a watch.

As a concept, I'm fine with Boom. What I'm not so keen about is the writing. The gameplay doesn't look that great either, but it can't be judged quite yet.

I'll add that, while I hate how the Wisps were implemented, they do add to the lore of Sonic's universe. By themselves, the Wisps are replacements for the animals that Sonic used to save, and I guess I'm okay with that.

Did you really just say that Tikal did almost nothing for the plot of Sonic Adventure? -__-

What did she do?

She sealed Chaos away. Eggman broke him out. That's the premise. Then she traveled around as a spirit and gave cryptic warnings to everyone. And then, when this failed, Sonic beat up Chaos, and then she sealed him away again.

This all could have been resolved if she'd explained the entire situation to either Sonic or Tails.

That premise explains why all the events of the game is even happening in the first place. As well as explaining as to how the Knuckles's entire race was wiped out and why the Master Emerald is important.

I'm pretty sure, a character revealing the back bone of the main game's story is the exact opposite of "does almost nothing for the plot."

And she didn't even seal Chaos again, Sonic explains why doing that really wouldn't help.

Tikal is beloved by the fanbase I thought, she was the only major female of note in the games aside from Amy at that point.

One thing though, I'm not fond of the "supernatural" characters too much like black doom/zeti/erazor/stuff like that although Void looked kind of cool at least and Mephiles is decent.

I like good characters, it just so happens a lot of them aren't good in my eyes.

I'm not the fanbase. I don't know if the rest of the fanbase likes her.

We can see that.

The Zeti, now them, I can... almost tolerate. A little too goofy, but a new enemy that weren't directly spawned by Eggman being stupid. Gameplaywise, they weren't too interesting.

The Storybook game villains like Erazor and Merlina are alright, with Sonic literally entering another universe themed off of Arabian/Arthurian legend. Merlina was a nice twist.

Black Doom just came out of nowhere.

Mephiles, Dark Gaia, and the Time Eater were awful. Though, taming the Time Eater was a neat Moment Of Win for Robotnik and Eggman.

From what I've seen, aside from her fans, Tikal's not so much "beloved" as she is "welcomed" or "tolerated" by the fanbase. It helps that:

• She was the second female Sonic character to appear in a Sonic game.
• Said game was considered one of the best in the franchise, if only due to nostalgia.
• She happens to be the same animal as Knuckles, who was fairly popular himself after he debuted.
• Because she had no gameplay presence in Adventure, she happened to avoid most of the bashing of other Sonic characters for their changes to the series' gameplay aspects once that became one of the hot button issues of the fandom.

Personally, she was pretty much the most memorable aspect of Adventure other than Chaos, and her theme was pretty sweet to boot.

I hate Tikal's voice acting, though. She's fine in those tutorials, but her acting as the character is probably the most stilted and wooden in the game. Just look at that cutscene with her and Tails again.

Also, regarding "Live and Learn", it took a long time for that song to grow on me. I didn't grow up playing Adventure 2, so I first heard it out of context and just thought of it as a really generic hard rock song. Doesn't help that Crush 40's lyrics aren't always that great.

Aren't most Sonic rocks songs generic anyway?

I'm of the faction that likes the Wisps. The unique themes each of them has helps with that. Especially in the case of Yellow Drill/Black Bomb.

Also, the Red Wisp does a bit more than make Sonic combust. It also yields chargeable a super jump of sorts, going by its use in 3DS!Generations.

Yeah, all dem Sonic game songs are dumb, nothing matches the true quality of this!
