Legend of the Blue Diamond contains examples of:

  • All There in the Manual: Certain information can only be found on projects that aren't apart of the main comic series, such as some characters' backstories or a family tree of the characters.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: The characters almost never have natural fur colors, from the yellow Akela to the purple Indigo. Averted with Asher, Spirit, and Ash, since they are gray.
  • Bury Your Gays:
    • Asher, Meerkat's boyfriend, is killed by Indigo out of jealousy.
    • Meerkat is also killed and used by Queen Ekala as a lure.
  • Civilized Animal: Almost all of the characters are wolves. They may have human-level intelligence and speech, but they are still wolves.
  • Demonic Possession:
    • Indigo becomes possessed by Karro.
    • Karro attempts to possess Akela.
  • Distant Finale: The epilogue chapter shows what happened to all of the characters after the events of the story.
  • Domestic Abuse: Heiko, Briar's mate, often physically attacks and berates her.
  • Dream Walker: Dream Dwellers are wolves that go into the dreams of wolves near them. Briar is a Dream Dweller.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Asher makes a cameo in Chapter 11 as a prison guard, but gets a proper introduction in Chapter 20.
  • Everyone Is Related: Every named character, with the exception of Willow's family, is related to every other named character.
  • Growing Wings:
    • After Lapis is executed, Akela grows wings.
    • All members of the royal family start out with no wings, but grow them when they get older. This process is called fledging.
  • Hostile Weather: Dangerous acid rain has fallen near the Feathered Tribe's village since the start of the Great Dying.
  • Icon of Rebellion: Naturally, the Blue Diamond is the symbol of the Diamond Resistance. Lapis and Indigo both have a marking with the Blue Diamond on it, which signifies that they are both apart of the Diamond Resistance.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: At the beginning of the series, Nautilus has yellow eyes with small blue spots. In later chapters, his eyes are more orange in color.
  • Klingon Promotion: Family members of the monarch of Tahzinii can challenge them to fight for the throne. Akela challenges Ekala in this way to keep her from hurting others and becomes queen.
  • Love at First Sight: Akela is enamored with Nautilus when she sees him for the first time. Nautilus even says that she is his world when the Diamond Resistance camp is attacked a few minutes later. Immediately after, they agree to be mates.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: There are two dragons, brother and sister, who represent the afterlives of the world. One is evil, and one is good.
  • The Prophecy: Atla delivers instructions on how to find the Blue Diamond:
Atla: It shall be on the day that the prey kills its predator,
The jewel shall bring forth an age of abundance.
Green will turn red, and the rain will fall,
With the rise of a new era
    A new greatness will call
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: The red and black Darkness has no qualms about killing and manipulation.
