Knuckles didn't stop being cool until the Shadow game...Heroes he was cool.

idk, I'll give Knuckles a few cool points in Shadow for somehow infiltrating the Black Comet on his own during one of the routes.

Oh I will cut you.
"Escape from the City" is one of my exceptions.

All Sonic lyrics are just a wee bit awkward when you sit and think about them. Sonic R had some kind of sunshine fetish going on. Colors had the lyric about "reaching for the stars!!" It's still some of the best music the franchise produced.
I won't disagree (though I will disagree with the theme from Colors being one of the best songs in the franchise).

[lol], didn't think anyone else thought this.
It's hard not to think that haha

So lately I've been reading the 25 Years Later arc from the Archie Sonic comics.

...

My GOD. These 5-8 page backup strips have to be the single worst thing the comic has ever produced up to this point. To put it simply, they're Penders as his most indulgent; a plotline that takes forever to get going to the point where it also feels like forever for it to end, characters with barely any real personality or discernible motivation, (seriously, why is Lein-Da good now?), and scenes that focus more on exposition and filler than anything else. Oh, and to add insult to injury, as part of his later lawsuit, Penders wanted his future from 25 Years Later to be the future of the comic rather than just a possible one. Thank God he didn't get away with that one, though it's still a shame knowing what he did get away with.

Penders at this point is like Chris Claremont without any real talent. As the years go by, he keeps on bloating his worst excesses, but at least Claremont still has a good writer somewhere deep inside that, on a good day, can still churn out decent and even enjoyable material. But Penders? If Penders ever had any talent, (and he does, sort of,) it wasn't much, and at his best, he was only kinda sorta okay, but at long last, we're finally seeing him at his absolute nadir, (as hard as that may be to believe,) and it is a slog. It's not even all that horrific or heinous really. It's just a poorly written, inept, anal bore. Which might be the worst kind of writing of all. At least something like your average MST 3 K movie is enjoyable in an ironic sort of way, but this isn't even on that level. It's just... BAD.

Wow. And that's one of the few nice things I've ever said about Colors in this thread.[lol]

I mean, I like it. It's bouncy and fun. I might not care for the series direction at that point but the song... man the song. I'd put it in the top 5 Sonic songs for energy alone.

[up][up]Oh, and to add insult to injury, as part of his later lawsuit, Penders wanted his future from 25 Years Later to be THE future of the comic rather than just a possible one.

Even though it's impossible for stories to feel suspenseful if the audience is shown that everything will eventually turn out just fine.

Besides, I can't see Sega signing off on the idea of Knuckles killing Eggman, though I might be projecting a bit.

Sonic doesn't show off a lot does he?

Colours and "Colors" was the first instance of him ever actually being showy...

He's pretty showy in 06's cinematics, and the victory breakdance debut in Unleashed.

Sonic didn't show off before; but he started to when he was voiced by Roger Craig Smith!! surprised

Anyway, SA 1 is a great soundtrack. cool Not so fond of SA 2, cause I hate rap.

[up]

Soble once again expresses his disagreement by posting a counterexample rather than explaining his true feelings on the matter. Behold!

I was really into the... hrh-hrm... "edgy" stuff as a kid and picked Team Dark right off the bat. Dry Lagoon was actually the first level I played and the song that plays when Eggman kidnaps the ME is just...

I don't know whether this is R&B, or some mix of jazz, blues, and techno, but I really need to know what genre this is and what kind of instruments are involved. It's really sad how much great music Sonic has that will probably fade into the same obscurity the side characters have. Like, this song makes me really like replaying Team Dark's story. But I don't think you ever hear it again in the game itself except in a Sound Test maybe. At least SA 1 actually played the character's themes in certain cutscenes and during the ending credits.

Amy's is good too. I never listened to the whole thing prior to looking up this video but I remember the "buh, buh, buyer, buuuy-yah!"

Only Knuckles' songs are rap.

I kinda dislike Throw It Away. Good thing All Hail Shadow became Shadow's prominent theme.

Fly In The Freedom is seriously the best image song of the Adventure series, and one of the best vocal songs in the Sonic series.

I've said it before, Team Rose has the most underrated theme of the bunch. Heck even Silver's theme Dreams of AN Absolution is pretty darn good.

The Sonic advance games had some quality bgm too, especially when you decompress the sound data.

[up]As far as Sonic Battle songs go, I like the themes of all the other arenas to the final boss theme, but generally the music in that game is pretty good.

And now I will pimp the mashup I made with one of the songs from the game as I always do:

Wow. And that's one of the few nice things I've ever said about Colors in this thread.[lol]

I mean, I like it. It's bouncy and fun. I might not care for the series direction at that point but the song... man the song. I'd put it in the top 5 Sonic songs for energy alone.

It's a fun song, but it sounds like a lot of generic electropop with pop-punk vocalists to me. As far as main themes for Sonic games go, I'll always put "Endless Possibility" far and ahead above it.

I prefer It Doesn't Matter, SA 1 ver. Sounds rockin' & cool, like a Guns N' Roses number!
aw, hell naw dawg, and I've scientifically proven that the SA2 version is better: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=12985657500A57372900&page=572#14286
(old post so I might be a bit more nuanced in how I'd describe it now, but I still stand by it)

The SA2 version of "Believe in Myself" is far better too. Tbh the only SA2 version of an SA1 song I don't prefer is "Unknown from M.E.", and that's only because the SA1 version is hilariously bad (but with great music). I do prefer the stage themes from SA1 to the ones in SA2, though, especially the Sonic 3D Blast remakes.

Finally passed Marble Zone, but the next zone is just as tedious. Those spike balls are just as momentum killer as the lava pit.

As for soundtrack, I like 06 and Black Knight the most.

Sonic 1's level design hasn't aged the greatest. (Though arguably, neither has Sonic 3 & Knuckles's.)

[up][up]Sonic 3's level design is top notch, what do you mean? I don't really like Sonic 1's at all because of how tedious some of the levels and mechanics are, but Sonic 3 and Knuckles has aged very well.

Sonic 1 doesn't have anything that Sonic 2 and 3 don't have. It's pure level design and nothing else.
