A jaunt:
Anyone ever watch a series called 'Sonic Syythe World' on Newgrounds?
It was a really bad flash animation that, for some reason, became extremely popular. I liked it back then, and despite not being able to figure out what was going in the plot, I look back on it as one of the most mysterious, messy, unresolved plots I've ever attempted to follow - and I've seen Lost in its entirety.
And yet for some reason it was hard to ignore the series - the plot made precious little sense, the characters were fan characters, the dialogue was often terrible and full of awkward tenses and phrases, the episodes were written like an unrevised first draft. And yet the review section sings accolades about it. Despite the poor quality, the characters were fun to watch, you just wanted to see what other bizarre, recolored sprites he could come up with.
Despite all that, the entire series was part of the old "pre-Googletube" days, when everyone used invision free forums and you could download porn on Youtube. Its quite difficult to find any information on the series as there's no wiki, no forums for it, the creator's AWOL, and all that remains are the episodes on Newgrounds - and probably even fewer who care to remember. There were two episodes missing from Newgrounds for a while too. From the bios the maker put into some of the episodes, there was a site for the series that might have explained what the frack was going on, but they seem to have just disappeared.
Ah, the plot. It reads like that Sonic fanfic we know you wrote in the 5th grade. You know the one.
An evil hedgehog named Syythe sinks Europe, Asia, and Africa - but leaves the islands around them alone for some reason. He decides to take over Iceland, and then Antarctica, where he begins to create an army of monsters (sprites swiped from Final Fantasy games). So a group of Sonic and Shadow and Amy recolors hedgehogs who receive little introduction go to stop him, because everyone knows him already apparently. One or two of them powers of their own, for no adequate reason.
The series goes on in a lackluster fashion with the team facing different monsters and Syythe intermittently, until a new bad guy, Soniroth, enters. Then the show adds in more characters from other flash animations, Sonic Blind Hero, fan characters from other people - see I never figured out who and where. Theres a subplot about mysterious symbols the characters find that work sorto f like chaos emeralds, although its never really explained and the characters find them randomly. There are three symbols in a seat - A, B, and C, with C as the most powerful. The symbols provide elemental powers, but they're also a bit silly. One character, Ginkgo, gains the ability to spawn apple trees, bananas, and finally a cactus sword.
But with most of that done with, a new bad guy shows up to take all the symbols. He kills most of the main cast and then.... then...
...and then season 2 starts, and everyone's been frozen for 180 years, and an entirely new plot starts for the remaining two episodes. Your brain is full of f'ck at this point because the previous plot has largely been dropped.
Its not a particularly good flash series, but the author slowly improved after 10 episodes or so, and the series managed to win an award on Newgrounds once or twice (and not the 'turd of the day' one either), I wondered if anyone had heard of it. The first 6-8 episodes are on Youtube thank god, and of course, thewhole thing thus far is still on Newgrounds.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Apparently Sonic Runners is closing down.
"I'm gonna miss Sonic Runners," said five people.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."DAYUM, don't do them like that man.
Finally! Now Sonic Team can get back to console games.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I'm actually wondering if any game we'll get this year will be good...considering that anniversary years that have a "5" at the end tend to not be good (5th anniversary had....3D Blast, Blast, and Sonic the Fighters, none of which were really good, and 15th anniversary had a shitty GBA port, '06, Rivals, and Riders; and only Riders was good), while anniversary years that have a "0" at the end tend to be good. (10th anniversary gave us SA 2, and the 20th anniversary gave us the Taxman remake of CD, and Generations)

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!3D Blast and Fighters were fine. Not "really" good, but nowhere close to terrible. Even if Fighters is mostly known for having a limited run in America and copying Sega's own Fighting Vipers.

De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.3D is a guilty pleasure of mine. I recognize most people won't like it, but I adored it as a kid and still quite enjoy it when I return to it.
Though, to be clear, the PC and Saturn versions are what I grew up on. Never owned the Genesis version.
Moon◊To be fair, 1996 was not a bad year, just not a good one for Sonic.
2006 was the bad year.
Lucky you, I'm stuck with the Genesis version (I own it via both the Wii's VC and Mega Collection. Only reason why I have it on VC is because I wanted about all the Sonic games on there (I'm only missing Mean Bean Machine) ).
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Sonic Runners shutting down just means I might have more space for that eventual Animal Crossing app.
I hope they at least salvage the music. It was pretty good.
When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your griefEhhhhhh...
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."It's the only one that usually is considered good of the 15h anniversary titles.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Riders was basically RACE TO WIN!!! Oh wait that's Rivals >.>

Mileena MadnessI feel that the problem with Riders was...
Truthfully, I hated that game when it came out because of that Tails jungle level. But then I went and got every A Rank in Zero Gravity to unlock Super Sonic, who turned out to be a huge disappointment.
And then Free Riders happened.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Sonic Rivals was decent dish...
Two good games and Two much more significantly worse games.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. There were two sequels to Sonic Rivals? I remember the one with the Ifrit, that one had Metal Sonic 3.0, an idea I actually liked that, of course, they never brought back.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I'm gonna miss Sonic Runners, unironically.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I just want the handheld branch of the series to come back instead of those adaptations of console games, even if it has to be phone-only.
Dimps was a lot better when they were making their own thing.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. There were only 2 Sonic Rivals games...
You're remembering the 2nd game.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.The only really bad thing about Sonic Riders and Zero Gravity was it's story which was just....bad to put it lightly. Oh yeah and the Babylon Riders could be a bit iffy at times (as they were intentional opposites of the main three). Jet was annoying, Wave was a rude know it all, and Storm was pretty much Boom Knuckles before he became Boom Knuckles. The gameplay itself was quite fun though although it was a bit boring once you manage to get used to how it plays as the AI can't do much to you at that point. I liked the track designs
Free Riders was pretty bad though. Mainly because the controls. One thing you can also argue that is bad about the Riders games is that the games just kept switching up gameplay. The original Riders had mechanics that never appeared again thereafter (the Air Gage for the hoverboards).

Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky GothJet's voices were annoying and Storm was dumb...but not really "Boom" Knuckles dumb.
