I think there's another thread for this, but whatever.
Connecticut as well.
MEPT 72 and frog are both from Connecticut also.
Connecticut is for squares, as it is somewhat rectangular.
NH > Connecticut
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Go complain to Anonymous User that his state is square.
And we're 5 for 5 while you're 0 for 2. You people threw out Carol Shea-Porter and brought in Frank Guinta and brought back Charlie Bass. Go fix that problem first.
By the Long Winding River, here.
(Which is what Quinneticut or how it's spelled actually means in Algonquin)
Banned entirely for telling FE that he was being rude and not contributing to the discussion. I shall watch down from the goon heavens.oh wait, we're talking about the PEOPLE? I was talking about the state itself. Yeah, People are kinda dumb. I can agree with that.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"Hey Lance, what can you do about cows voting in your state?
Yay...Massachusetts
Woo...Massachusetts...yay...
...italics.Massachusetts!
Life is like a game of Mahjong. Sometimes you need to take risks if you want to come out ahead. Are some of you Masaschusetts people near Boston?
If so, would you be around during mid-January next year?
I would.
Would you like to join our MIT Mystery Hunt team?
We need people in the Boston area to establish an on-site/local contingent to participate in it.
The 2012 Mystery Hunt will be held in mid-January 2012, as usual.
The page says it's ~50 hours, so I wouldn't be able to stay the whole time unless people are pulling all-nighters, but I can certainly hang around most of the day. Thanks!
It should mostly be daytime activities.
It might be possible to make do without an on-site contingent, since we're not playing to win at all (you need on-site people in order to complete the Hunt), but there may be activities involving running around the campus or around the Boston/Cambridge area even.
That said, the 2010 Hunt made these mostly optional, and that was a nice thing. (Hilariously, it also featured a physical runaround...that was set in Washington, DC. People had to figure out the paths from their team's knowledge and stuff like Google Maps.)

You know, I've always been interested in the Mystery Hunt... I suppose I could try to arrange some time off to participate.
Somerville, Massachusetts for me.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Split between Connecticut and Boston.
Obligatory self promotion: http://unemployedacademic.tumblr.com/Somerville is probably close enough, actually. I know that I attended the 2004 College Democrats Convention (in Boston) while staying at Tufts University (in Somerville), since you just take the Red Line out to Davis Square. However, it is a bit of a commute—the walking is substantial and the whole trip takes an hour or so I think.

The main issue is that we'd need some people to be present at various events.
This usually means:
- the opening ceremonies (though we haven't yet done well enough for them to matter much)
- puzzle-type events—they usually "count as puzzles", in the sense that you have to participate in them in order to get a solution to call in. They may be their own round of puzzles or may be embedded in other rounds. However, the 2011 Hunt notably made all such events optional—all they did was get you "coins" that would let you "buy" puzzle solutions. Whether this tradition will continue is not known (though I can ask if the organizers for 2012 are thinking of this).
- some puzzles may involve going around town. For example, looking for landmarks in the Boston/Cambridge area.
- (optional) the closing ceremonies, where the organizers talk about the whole experience, and various highlights, and also discuss the structure of and design behind the year's Hunt, and stuff. Recent tradition has this broadcast online by the team Death From Above—livecast AND recorded for prosperity, if you are interested.
Oh, I know that Somerville is close enough. Even beyond the whole "ride the Red Line from Davis" thing (although I'm actually closer to Sullivan Square - which makes the most sensible option to go into Sullivan, catch the 91, and then the 1 into MIT), I've walked from my house to MIT before. Takes about an hour on a good day. Not a problem at all.
I could be a part of Team Troper, no problem. And besides, I've been meaning to take some time off and do this for years. If nothing else, being a veteran of Perplex City should help me hold my own.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. That was quite a storm we just had here in MA, huh?
Life is like a game of Mahjong. Sometimes you need to take risks if you want to come out ahead. In the Boston suburbs, we didn't get it so bad, but I feel for the people past Framingham.
Also, I lived for 3.5 years in South Florida, near the Everglades. Between hurricane season and twisters/water spouts out there, I've learned a bit or two about prepping for bad windstorms.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I hear that at least four people died in Springfield.
Considering that I was only about half an hour south, in Enfield (Connecticut) just that morning before...it's rather uncanny.
How did I not know about this thread when it was created? Well yeah, anyway, Connecticut born and raised, the only other place I've ever lived is college on a hill overlooking Boston (if you're smart you might be able to guess where that is, eh?...) and that I'm only half done with, so...yeah...
Who's going to ConnectiCon? Anyone? If people are actually going this time, I don't want to miss most of them like last year...
