Yep. Some of those old stories have all these names with nothing but consonants — especially, the ones from Nibel.

-Thinks to himself-

Consonants... uh... are those the description words?

What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything?

They're the hard sounds, like t and m and stuff. Northern names can be hell to pronounce to outsiders... one good thing Shinra did was making Standard Continental the international language. Some people complained of loss of culture, but at least we can understand what we're saying... Wutai kept Wutaian, though. Another reason why they got screwed over when things started getting worse.

-Gets up to make tea- Mom grew up speaking Nibeli, and when she was a bit younger than I was, they started cracking down on other regions still trying to keep their native languages. Tifa and I even wound up learning how to "drop the accent", as it were, for the folks in Midgar and Junon and Kalm.

-Has started scratching up a table leg-

Yeah. More to learning another language than just swapping some words.

For example, "if I were to"... wait, stuff translates here. Never mind. The point still stands.

-Comes back with tea- So, what about you?

-Hops onto the table-

After the Unification War, the dominant language is what I speak, Falcaen. There are others, maybe twenty or so across turian space, but they're not as common. Speaking them is making a cultural statement more than anything.

As for learning English, it was either that or Althane for asari, and no offence, but English was an easier mark. Picked up the basics at the academy and the mannerisms aboard the Normandy after the war.

(Griff is presented with this guy. He also happens to be twice his size) Greetings, human. Is it possible to drive inside?(which might prove difficult, because, well, he's unlikely to squeeze through the door frame)

(blinks) Hm. No. I really shouldn't be surprised.
